@@pattys_aquatics The jar contains several worms, one or two scuds and some others in minute quantities. You pour the contents of this jar into an aquarium with two dozen fish and seriously expect them to survive and reproduce and feed dozens of fish? Ridiculous!

I have been keeping what you people are calling Resurrection jars as a hobby for over 55 years & I found it amazing the diversity that ditch bank muds have within them. It also changes weather its day or night. One of the wildest ones for me was a small section of roof top moss that was always kept wet from an air conditioning drain. I submersed it about 5 inches deep, by day it was an interesting thriving plant/animal but by night with a flashlight, it was a writhing mass of thin white worms looking for food. Scary. I could not tell if the worms were actually part of the moss or separate.
@pattys_aquatics9 ай бұрын
That is very cool! Some in past comments mentioned others have done these jars before and if you think about it these probably were some of the first aquariums for people years and years ago. Wow, that definitely is wild with the rooftop moss. It’s crazy to think of the amount of organisms that actually live all around us and we just are not aware of. Thank you for sharing and thank you for watching 😁👍

I have a colony of bloody-Mary shrimp. I spotted a planaria worm on the glass a few months ago. I got it out, but there were obviously more. I started seeing more on the glass but I didn't treat it. Last week I noticed a few red worms on the glass. *They are eating them!* My colony looks a little smaller. I am dosing No-Planeria now. You don't want these in your shrimp tank!

I do not follow Father Fish's methods to the letter, but his methods and philosophy about keeping fish was what got me the courage to finally dive into this hobby. I have never had much i can set off for stuff not related to my own personal survival, so cost was a big hurdle for me to get over. He showed me enough in a video for me to finally figure out that "Hey, i might actually be able to afford this!". So i started saving up for a proper glass tank and figured out that i can make it even cheaper, if i just put in some time and effort. I was given a acrylic tank (first and last, glass rules.) with two neglected Corydoras on the verge of death, and nursed them back to health and had fry within 3 months. Got 50 - 70 Albino Corydoras raised, which i still have 21 of in my tanks. Another factor keeping me out of the hobby was the well being of these magnificent creatures. In my eyes, most of the "pristine tank" methods are lessening their quality of life enough to a point where i was not comfortable with the thought of keeping fish. I have grown up taking care of animals of all shapes and sizes and have worked in several different jobs related to animal care with most of my mentors having a big focus on sustainability, ecological impact, natural methods and most importantly trying to provide any and everything a animal might need or appreciate (in their own ways.). Whenever i had searched for aquarium stuff in the past, all the results were overly expensive methods that clashed directly with my own thoughts, mindset, methods and philosophy when it comes to animal care. Father Fish got recommended to me on frontpage after searching for terrarium stuff, and i got to see that there were actually a substantial amount of people who not only had kept fish in a way that i find appealing, they often had way better results in terms of animal health! Now, a little over a year after my first fish i have learned so much and accomplished more then i thought possible. Im also "that guy" who will try to tell people how smart fish actually can be, but i have a sneaking suspicion they think i am batpoop insane LOL. I have trained Bettas who were smarter then many dogs, i have certain fish that likes to rub against me and get pets and other stuff most people would call me a liar for mentioning. Running little science experiments and disproving myths i suspect are wrong for my own amusement has been the most fun so far though.
@pattys_aquatics Жыл бұрын
I couldn’t agree with you more in everything you said. I not only love tanks that look natural but also feel they benefit the inhabitants better than a pristine environment. And you are correct with the cost as well … for me no filters and if I lived in a warmer climate I wouldn’t even use heaters. That is very cost efficient. I think that’s very cool you trained Betta and other fish. I hand feed my fahaka puffer although it makes me nervous sometimes with those chompers 😂 Thanks for watching and sharing I enjoyed reading it and knowing their are like minded individuals out there😁👍

The pet store lady looked at me like I was nuts when I told her I disciplined my fish. If there's a jerk, I holler first time. The only one who hides is the jerk. 2nd time, I warn that I will give him the chopstick next time. 3rd time, chopstick. This means I chase that fish for 3 minutes with a chopstick until he is breathing hard. Then I say, "How do YOU like being bullied?" Next time, all I have to do is tell once, and he hides and shapes up. Works with most fish except one evil terrorist fish I got rid of. He was a murderer. So, i explained all if this to the pet store lady who looked at me like i was insane. A month later, I went back, and she came running over to me to tell me a customer had a hard time with a fish. She told them what I said, and it worked. LOL. Even though some might think you are crazy, they could be listening. 😊 I had one Demosani cichlid who would press against the glass so I could pet him with my finger outside the glass a lot. People wouldn't believe me until they saw it. Then again, we once had a cat that would occasionally speak clear English. One time a friend who had never been to my house came to visit. People listened to my stories, but secretly thought I was exaggerating. As we sat there on the porch, a little voice said, "Well, hello there." She leaped up and asked who said that. She saw the cat walking by, and I pointed at him. She said she thought I made those stories up. He didn't speak a lot, but when he did, it was startling as he would say complete sentences crystal clear. We miss that cat. He was special. There. Now, do you feel more "normal"? 😉

Thank you very much my friend, I really enjoyed making this video not only to share with everyone but to see the whole process with my own 2 eyes. I just started my first father fish 15 gallon about a month ago it’s thriving I have about 24 fish very heavily planted probably 90% planted water lettuce really helps because it grows fast but I have all kinds of slow medium and fast growing plants. I fed the fish, initially I had four fish, small fish, two sword tails, and two panda Cory’s-after the first three days I fed them as much as flakes that would match their eyes very very little. After that I have not fed any of the fish in 3 1/2 weeks and they are all thriving. I put in some palm tree wood lastly and I could see little fuzz grow on the wood and see the fish eating the fuzz the first three days, I did dead leaves soaked in water like a resurrection jar and I did another one similar and added a little of the culture and the whole tank is thriving. All the fish are happy and swimming.

@@pattys_aquatics You won't regret it. Salt water could be very rewarding do to the beautiful fish and invertebrates that you can keep in your aquarium, not to mention soft corals that could be hardy and easy to keep. The only downside to salt water is that the water perimeters have to be kept to the letter. There is less margin for errors, and you must start with a 30g tank or bigger. One step at a time. Thanks for the input it’s greatly appreciated 😁👍

Thank you for doing the experiment making this video, I've collected some dirt but they smelled bad so I didn't use them, saw some interesting life in there too! Found another pond that didn't smell bad, will be collecting from there soon, thank you for the heads up on what not to put into our tanks, is there a list of what should I be watching out for besides the one you've mentioned?

Thank you and thanks for subbing and the support 👍 it’s amazing what you find in these jars. As far as what you don’t want in your tank honestly it may depend on where you live and what could be in your local waters but like I said dragonfly nymphs for sure, damselfly nymphs I heard can be bad as well and planaria worms if you have shrimp is what I read as the main ones to look out for but if you haven’t I highly recommend checking out the Father Fish Discord and there is a resurrection jar page in it where there is a plethora of useful information from hobbyist like you and me just sharing information we have learned. Did you run into any water issues after dumping the resurrection jar into your aquarium? I'd imagine the water parameters from the jar vs aquarium are quite different, no? If so, I thought perhaps the drip method, adding tank water into the resurrection jar over the 30-day period, would be a good idea.
@pattys_aquatics6 ай бұрын
No issues at all. I’m sure there are differences in the waters but one jar full of water in my opinion wouldn’t affect your tanks water that drastically. It’s full of micro organisms which is great from your tanks ecosystem and should have no issues with the water itself. If your wanting to drip the water in thats up to you but unless your putting in water from a polluted source in my opinion it should be fine. Thanks for watching 😁👍

It is very interesting seeing all the organisms come to life. The majority of everything in these can be consumed by your fish. Dragon fly nymphs seem to be the thing you want to avoid the most. Question! I've been meaning to try this, but is it okay without any oxygen flow to the stuff living in the Jar?
@pattys_aquatics6 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I never have used O2 in them. You can add an air stone if you like it won’t hurt anything and If there is a lot of organic material in the jar it can start to smell some. What I do is cover them with a breathable material or you can put a couple small floating plants on the surface will work as well. These organisms are very resilient and seem to multiple more the longer they sit in this stagnant environment. Hope that helps and thanks for watching😁👍

I got the purpose was to isolate and remove creatures to culture seperately and then add that to your tank. I would think dumping water from your resurrection jar directly from your tank would be asking for trouble.
@pattys_aquatics9 ай бұрын
As long as your pulling it from a water source that isn’t obviously polluted or have dead fish everywhere in my opinion it would be fine. I sort of look at the aquarium as an immune system, the cleaner and more sterile it is the greater the chance of a disease no matter how small to take over. Where if there is numerous different organisms it can naturally fight off or combat diseases better. If you’re familiar with Father Fish I highly recommend checking out some of his videos on the subject. Can probably explain it better in his videos than I can in my comment. Thank you for watching 😁👍

@@pattys_aquatics i qm very familiar with many methods of fish and reefkeeping including Dr Fish videos. He said to make cultures from the jar. He never said to pull directly from the jar. He said the opposite. I think doing so is a horrible risk of parasites, predators and bacterial infections. I would implore you to follow his directions. But jey its your tank to enjoy and theres no shade doing it your way. I hope it works out. If not... you have something else to try! ;)

@@Joshuasuua yeah I believe mine were some sort of midge fly larvae possibly. Mine disappeared as well and is the reason I cover all my jars now cause I had flying insects in my house😁 as far as culturing I would think you would have to pull them and feed them before they turn into flying insects

I've had my fish in 91° degree water! I'm sick. I don't know how any survived. I lost several over the last few months, not all at once, and they were disappearing in the tank. Eaten by the other fish. I had tested my thermometer before but I didn't do it correctly. I came across a YT video that had directions on the correct way to test your thermometer. How can we be sure we’re not introducing parasites and diseases into our aquariums???? This seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
@pattys_aquatics9 ай бұрын
The purpose of observing it for 30 days is to see what organisms that are in there. If there are certain ones we wouldn’t want like dragon fly nymph or planaria worms to name a couple they can be removed. Now as far as things you can’t see, well as long as your pulling this from a body of water that isn’t polluted or visible signs of dying fish in my opinion it would be fine. I sort of look at the aquarium as a immune system , the cleaner your tank is and sterile the greater the chance for a disease to take over where if you introduce all different types of organisms the system can get stronger by being exposed to them and in turn can make the tank healthier. If you are familiar with Father Fish I highly recommend checking out some of his videos on this subject. Thank you for watching 😁👍
