Thanks for making this! I'm gonna make my bold jumping spider a sling proof enclosure just in case she has eggs. I found her in my house and decided to keep her and I just realized she looks gravid. I am not sure if I can care for the eggs because my dad really doesn't like the idea if the house in infested with little baby spiders. I hope none escape if she does lay eggs. This was a useful video. I only have captive bred females and have no plans to breed. But, occasionally, I think about breeding a species that is native to my area so I could safely release the slings after I got totally overwhelmed. Then, I usually come to my senses and go back to, "I have no plans to breed ..."

Frustrating that the breeder didn't warn me on what could happen (my first jumping spider) but now the wait begins. If fertile, I'll need to raise them as they are not native to my area. Great video! How do you keep the i2-i4 spiderlings and beyond hydrated? I know water drops are dangerous with their surface tension. When is it safe to mist an inside wall of the enclosure?

Not necessarily. What is her appearance? They are always on the move so they love creeping around boxes and such. Doesn’t mean it is from China. If you can identify would be much better

I got a wild caught female Phidippus Audax back in September. I could clearly see her Epigydum, when I got her. So, I'll assume she was mature. However, she had a molt shortly after I caught her, yet here it is 5 months later and she laid eggs. I have no clue if she bred in the wild or not, but I'd like to assume since she had a molt, can I assume the eggs are infertile?

A molt before isn’t always infertile… I have had females I have bought molt and then lay an egg sac that was fertile…

@Halbert Gonzalez Thankfully, it was an infertile sack. I ended up removing it once she left it alone to confirm its fertility for sure.

So, i found an audax in my parent's house. I got him, put him in a tarantula crib house and then a day or two later, i went over there and my dad caught one too, in the house. I thought they were P Regius so, i thought they were both males. The one I caught was obviously sexually mature, so I let him go. Then about 10 days after the day, my dad caught one, it made a thick web hammock. I thought he was going to molt. Instead I saw "her" laying an egg sac. I think the male I caught inseminated the female my dad caught. They were both found in the kitchen. Anyway, how do I vend them? I know it's not legal to buy and sell pets on FB, and I don't want to neutralize the egg sac, but idk if I could get rid of all the babies. Its going on thr 3rd week of the sac, so I still have a bit of time. My husband doesn't want me to keep them. He wants me to let them go, but if i could find someone to take them, either a dealer or people, I would raise them, to sell them or even give them away. The prob is i have 12 tarantulas, so 75 jumping babies isn't something my husband wants. Lol.

Oh so glad I found your video. So informative. I just got one I found outside, only had her for like three days... She's so fat and can't move hardly at all..well all night she whipped up this hammock and I just went to my apt and came back and she's on top of a huge yellow egg sac now🥹omg. I'm so excited LOL I hope they're fertile..since I found her outside I'm assuming so! She looks sooo much smaller now too haha. And yeah she never would eat or drink al these days I basically forced water into her little mouth with a q tip and she did drink then for about twenty seconds but that was it..not interested in anything else. Never jumped, always just crawled slowly..sooo yeah she's with her sac now in a little hammock on the back of a fake sunflower in the enclosure I put her in LOL. Guess I should.get a bigger one with a after ventilation so they don't escape && have more room!! How long should I keep them all together?? Or do I need to put them all in separate enclosures once they come out?🥹

2:10 Alittle OT, but male Heliconid butterflies will literally dogpile a female's chrysalis so that as soon as she ecloses, the closest and luckiest male will mate with her.

Do you know the best way to remove the egg sac from the nest? I just found out my jumping spider (a P. johnsoni) is a female because she laid eggs two days ago and she won’t leave her nest. I won’t be able to release them into the wild once they’re slings since they are native to the west coast and I live in Pennsylvania. 😕

I'd leave her in there with them. It's fine she won't come out bc that's what they do. If/when she does come out, you can transfer *her* to a new enclosure.

@@carmenreyes6913 pull it out and stick the whole sac in the freezer. It will stop development. Just know she'll keep laying more... and you'll have to keep doing this 3-5+ more times.
