As a recovering arachnaphobe: I think people are constantly forgetting that you are learning through your own experiences and that you are not doing this purely for entertainment. This isnt any different than people breeding dogs and losing one or two puppies in the process (and I say this as a vet tech as well). Several factors go into breeding, some of which are not always in your control.

I think some cannibalizing is natural in jumping spider breeding, but others swear it doesn’t happen until they’re older and it’s better to keep them together. In my experience separating early on is more work but I always have less losses this way. So if someone is lucky enough to breed these I’d separate earlier rather than later despite what they heard to be on the safe side. Thank you.
@teijaflink2226
@teijaflink2226 8 ай бұрын
Well it's a bigger deal to lose couple of puppies and a risk that it's your fault as it's not really natural but with spiders they have so many babies so it's just natural some will always die even if you are the best breeder.

As a child,I was scared of spiders,Now ,I keep in mind at all times Wich ones I want to avoid,But they would all rather avoid me more than I'd want to avoid them,Kat can point out and I'm sure provide pics of the us found ones you want to truly respect, Because she has 3/4 of them,But I'll say this,I'm a tree climber by trade,Assist in demolition of buildings as a hobby,I've actually for some ungodly known reason,held several widow spiders,&the brown recluse,Never have I gotten a bite,a threat pose,or a sign of anything other than slight curiosity,or they just want to run and get away from me

Thank you, Kat! The other day I saved a mama wolf spider from my pool with babes on her back. I had NO fear for the first time in my life! Mama gave me a small threat pose when I eased her off the pool skimmer but when she realized I was trying to help, she went on her way. I was so happy.

Hyllus are hard to keep and breed. They need a specific heat and light set up. Bioactive enclosures etc. Even if you do things perfectly they still lay small clutches and sometimes they don't develop or thrive. There is also a huge issue with inbreeding them in captivity. Which makes them also more fragile. I would talk to Melissa from spooderhood spiders. She and her partners are the most successful hyllus breeders in the US. Maybe even everywhere. Her adoption guidelines for them are strict for good reason.

I have two baby opisthoncus which are about 4i but still tiny (2mm) and because they are still somewhat transparent are often almost impossible to see. Even in a tiny container with a little bit of wood wool it takes ages to find them (before I open the lid to feed) and they move fast so I now use a tray and have a brush close by to avoid spending ages scanning the bench at eye level with a torch searching for a minute crumb or spec of dust that is moving.

Tarantula Kat is wrong, none of the losses are her fault. She did everything to the best of her ability. She can't be perfect. I know she wants to be, but it's impossible to know the perfect way to raise every species. I can't believe Tarantula Kat wants to be perfect. Tarantula Kat is so compassionate when poor Richard was attacked by one of his Bark Scorpions she demanded to know if the scorpion was ok forgetting to ask poor innocent Red bearded Richard if he was ok. Poor innocent Richard.

Ginseng was probably almost 4 years old. Most Jumper Females only live about 3-5 years. Some can live about half a decade. The Spiders with the shortest lifespans are Orb Weavers. Usually only living 9-12 months.

while i understand why people would be scared of spiders, i have no idea why people kill them, the same goes for scorpions. i was actually stung by a scorpion when i was six, it was hiding in my shoe and it stung me as i put it on. i still would never kill one. it was not trying to hurt me, it was trying to protect itself, how can i blame it for that? i am thankful that i had someone to show me that spiders are not something to fear, my 1st grade teachers would bring in tarantulas that he caught in to school. after all these years i am still thankful.

Hi! I REALLY need some advice about my jumping spider that i believe (fingers crossed) is gravid but im not positive. I caught her in my house in early November and she was already mature and is VERY plump. Im just hoping to maybe confim my suspicions that she is gravid or maybe shes just "big boned", also her behavior is weird compared to my other jumpers ive had but she has decided since yesterday to build not one but TWO hammocks, she also did not put them at the top of her enclosure she put them at the bottom under some leaves of a fake succently that i put in there as decor. She also chose to put both of the hammocks right next to each other? Any idea why she mightve built 2? So far no eggs in either and she is still coming out to socialize and eat

@houndgirl7365
@houndgirl7365 8 ай бұрын
Saying they aren't as common in the hobby im not shocked at there being some hiccups. Everything is a learning process and usually the reuslt in the wild is 1 or 2 out of a sac will reach adulhood, so honestly these results thus far that you are having are good when thought about in that respect. Keep doing what you can one can only do the best they can hope the remaining babies survive and it would be zero shock if you kept some to breed for the next generation. Sometimes keeping a group or in this case sac would lead to more being produced for the hobby further solidifying the species.

At the risk of being yet another person on the internet willing to offer advice, keeping and breeding Asian arboreal tarantulas has been my niche for a few years and there are some steps you can take and investments you can make for better success in the future. I guess I'll have to introduce myself if we cross paths at ShowMe in Bridgeton. Well done though, it's no small feat to get a species with limited documentation to breed successfully in captivity and growing pains are sure to occur before one can completely dial them in.

@@tarantulakatThe Species in itself needs warm atmosphere. I don’t think you did much of anything wrong. Except not catch any gnats which they would have fed on. Molt premature deaths can happen if the spidering is underdeveloped and it’s also not out of the ordinary if the hatchlings of Senior Females doesn’t fare too well especially out of season(Jumpers mate in the mid Summer). It was a certainly a good thing you separated them. Cannibalism among Spiders only occurs if there’s no prey for them to catch. Try feeding them gnats. Easy and quick meal as gnats are much slower than Flies.
