Well, as I saw the hits to the "men" of the opponent, the one attacking needed to do a 180-degree turn faster after passing the opponent, because a good-amount-of-delay would be violating "zanshin", and this would mean a point deduction or deductions on the test. Zanshin is keenly important in Kendo. It basically means you watch your opponent, even as you attack, because the opponent can counterattack suddenly and at any time. If you are ready for such counterattack as it comes, you have good focus--therefore, that's what "zanshin" means. If you look away from the opponent at the wrong time---big mistake. You must pay attention until you are told to relax.

Congratulations on your 1-kyu! I just received mine the same month as you! I was wondering what country you're practicing kendo in?
@neg0t8 жыл бұрын
Arigato! :) I practice kendo in Finland. We have a solid community of about 3-400 kendokas in this country. Usually our seminars have senseis from Japan, France and our own 7.dans

Where is this place? 1-7 kata for 1 kyu? I thought they require up to 3?
@neg0t2 жыл бұрын
Finland. For 1. Kyu we do 1-7 but only 1-5 are judged. 1. Dan 1-7 all katas judged and 2.dan forward all 10.

@@neg0t That is very interesting. I believe tests in Japan may be much easier. Good luck!

It is most common with 1-3 for Ikkyu and then 1-5 for Shodan.

@@jimson9297 That's what I say! Aren't they crazy? I heard each level of Foreign country's ranks seems to be higher than each level in Japanese. This one shows well.

Wow, nihon kata for ikkyu, I thought kihon kata was standard until Dan grades. Well done!

As far as I know Nihon Kendo Kata is always part of Ikkyu grading.
