Gave up 30 years ago trying to keep ammo locked up. Was a waste of safe space. Started using a closet, that then turned two closets... Now I just keep it stored in what used to be a small guest bedroom. Usually 2 big buys a year... Although the last two years, I just stopped buying anything, and even sold about 5k rounds of 9. Just not worth what it's been selling for...

Everytime I buy a box I update my list and inventory. It’s always good to keep track of exactly what you have. That way when you get down on a certain caliber you are aware of it. Because you might have 12k but then only have 500 for say 9mm… Just my thought on it, everyone has their own system.

One .50 cal can will store 300 .308 in 20 round box or 1000 5.56 in 50 round box or 1000 9mm in 50 round box or 2500 .22 LR in 100 round containers (CCI plastic) I built a wooden shelving unit that houses 35 cans (5 shelves of 7 cans) for my shtf ammo which i started gathering quite a few years ago. 1500 or 5 cans .308 (900 168 gr hpbt/600 147 gr ball) 15000 or 15 cans 5.56 62 gr ball. 5000 or 5 cans of 9mm (3000 124 gr XTP/2000 124 gr ball). 25000 or 10 cans of .22 lr (5000 CCI 32 gr HP Stingers/20000 CCI 36 gr HP). ((46500 for those that count)) Each can also has a desicant pack in it. My training/hunting/range/practice ammo and ammo in other calibers is also stored on shelves but not in ammo cans. Some is stored in mags others in original box and some in mtm 100 count boxes. Enjoyed your video.

Yes, "open cylinder" means that there is no choke. "Improved cylinder bore" means that there is no modified choke permanently bored into the middle section of the barrel either. Some shotguns don't have an exterior choke tube or "screw in choke," instead they'll have a permanent choke bored into the middle section of the inside of the barrel.

That's good to know, because I bought another 840 rounds of the 62 grain M855 PMC 5.56. I noticed that the PMC 5.56 has a nicer finish than the government issued Lake City 5.56. I also noticed that they go through the trouble of putting primer sealant on it.

I can only answer that I've only reloaded 12GA shotgun ammo, I've never reloaded handgun or rifle, mostly because I cannot afford the reloading equipment. My reloading equipment for my shotgun however only cost me under $150 that included the price of the the shell press, the roll crimper, the foster style slug mold and 00 buckshot mold.

I think that one of the salesmen at the gun shop that permanently closed up was alleging that specifically, the 62 grain made by PMC Xtac would penetrate AR500 steel plate. I know that it is true that you can penetrate AR500 steel plate at point blank range and ranges of about 20 feet or more with regular 55 grain lead FMJ 5.56, rounds do not need to be manufactured by PMC.

You are 50% correct. Yes, in a prolonged WROL/SHTF/TEOTWAWKI/grid down scenario you'll be able pickup weapons off of the street even off of dead corpses, however when it comes to the availability of ammo in that situation, ammunition will be so scarce that it will be treated and horded like gold. And yes, if I were to ever be forced to "bug out" in a moment's notice because of some unforeseen, unavoidable, extreme danger that was coming way that I was forced to make a hasty retreat from my home, I would in fact be forced to leave more 9/10 tenths of my ammo stockpile, as well as most of my weapons, and probably 9/10 tenths of my food/water storage, clothes, shoes, boots, gasoline, and other supplies as well. Believe me, I have thought these things over. Make no mistake, I am not a "grab my bugout bag and rifle and head out into the woods" kind-of-guy, simply just doing this with no other followup plan is just as dangerous as not having preparations or a plan at all. Just grabbing your bugout bag and heading into the woods as a primary response during the intial stages of SHTF is not a plan. My primary plan is to get home and essentially to bug-in. Secondly, if I were to make a hasty bugout, I would take advantage of owning a full-sized pickup and would try to load as much of my supplies into the back of my truck starting with my food/ water storage first, then seeds, canning jars, then ammo, then gas supplies, then hand tools, and then weapons. If I didn't have any time at all for any of that then I'd just focus on food storage and seeds maybe grab a pistol and shotgun with a box of ammo each and then leave. I have better chance of survival by holing up in my own home then trying to eek a living on the side of the road or out in the national forest. And don't think that you'll be the only one out there, there will be others like you out there competing for the same limited number of supplies. But yes, I see your concerns. Right now I'm more concerned that the government will regulate private ownership of firearms out of the hands of the citizens, that they'll start by making it hard, impossible, or illegal for ammo purchases for individual law-biding citizens. Look no further than Commie-fornia when they passed a state bill requiring a stringent background check on every single box of ammo purchased. They charge a $1 dollar fee on every box for each individual background check and if you failed the background check for any reason they'd deny your ammo purchase and stick you with a $19 bill for failing the background check so, there you go, that's one of the many reasons why I have a large stack of ammo. I will remind you that you brought up some excellent points. Thank you.

I believe the PMC XTAC (Korean-made) is as high of quality as the USA-made. For long term, you should still use metal cans with packets (just my opinion). The cans and packets are a minimum expense compared to the ammo - especially at today's prices.

D, you probably know this, but you can buy actual .999 solid silver bullets in all different sizes. Way cooler than silver bars. The 12ga.shotgun shells are 5 oz. Stacking silver doesn't have to be boring.

I do have some silver bullion, I stick mostly to 1 ounce and pre-1965 90% silver U.S. minted coins. I will not buy silver bullion over 2 ounces in weight per bar/coin due to how easily someone else can counterfeit said silver bullion with a piece of tungsten.

I know that regular 55 grain M193 FMJ will go through AR500 if it is fired at fairly close ranges of 20 feet or less. I am actually a little unsure of the PMC Xtac 62 grain M885 FMJ, though.

Think about it this way, ball ammunition has been around for a very long time, in fact the first firearms all the way down to smooth bore and rifle muzzle loaded muskets used ball ammunition. It had been that way for over last 4 to 500 years, it wouldn't be till the last 100 to 150 years that hollow point ammunition would come to exist. Ball ammunition was and still is taking lives just the same as it always had. If ball ammunition had been ineffective this whole time, I don't think that the first firearms would have taken off like they did and been used in a combat roll. We'd still be using melee weapons and crossbows. Ball ammunition has greater penetrating power than a hollow point. The problem with ball ammunition is that it doesn't always dump all of its kinetic energy into soft tissue like hollow point does, therefore causing less damage upon exiting, sometimes doesn't immediately kill like some hollow points do, but it will kill you just the same. The new issue with ball ammo traveling through soft tissue is that it can still have enough kinetic energy to unintentionally kill someone (innocent bystander) on the other side of your intended target. The wound cavity caused ball ammunition is not as wide going through soft tissue like hollow point. However, once again, I have to reiterate this last comment for the mouth-breathing dipshits out there who still like to discount ball ammunition as not being deadly or effective enough, ball ammunition is VERY MUCH DEADLY. The one strength that ball ammunition has over hollow point is that it makes for a more effective barrier penetrator. Someone trying to hide behind a wooden door, a wooden wall with plywood sheathing wooden studs, siding, gypsum plasterboard or brick facade, or someone trying to use a car door as cover during a gunfight will most definitely rendered useless for cover when facing down ball ammunition. Make no mistake modern hollow point ammunition will still penetrate those barriers just the same, only not as effectively as ball ammunition. However, unlike the wide bore hollow points, ball ammunition's effectiveness will never be hindered by heavy clothing or common physical barriers as previously discussed. Both ball ammunition and hollow points are deadly.

Use only one ammo. Every ammo has different speed and different track. Thus, you have to do sight in adjustment whenever you shoot different ammo.

If you are buying it in a store, you are required to show photo ID. If you are buying ammo online, you don't need ID because it is implied that you are over the age of 18 because you are using a credit card to purchase ammo, and you have to be 18 or older to legally obtain a credit card.
