Having 6 to 8 thousand primers on hand when the pandemic struck, I thought I was golden. In less than 2 years I was forced to pay $110 per thousand. The moral of this story is that you can never have too much ammo!

If you can't touch it in 15 minutes, you don't really own it. That goes for money, gold, ammo, guns and food/water. Within 15 minutes you whole world could change, in fact The whole world could change in 15 minutes. Not likely, but still possible.

@@Cruiser777It's simply depends on the situation. An EMP might not hurt a lot of people who have underground bunkers and such. I have several burner SUVs that are stored in a shop with the batteries removed. After an EMP simply reattach the battery and you're good to go. People that are prepared will be able to withstand a lot of the horrible things going on around them. Especially those who can't afford to install a bunker. They're getting to be less expensive. Also a lot of people who are handy have built bunkers out of shipping containers or other things. If you can shelter from what's going on outside you have a chance. The point of surviving some sort of catastrophic against it is that you have choices. Most people that die are going to die in agonizing death because they don't have any water or food. If you have even a rudimentary bunker you can gather those that you care about in that bunker you have time to make decisions about what to do. While the chaos is going on up above those in their bunkers can be making decisions and plans. And if one has been able to build a proper bunker you can get filters that will filter out any kind of radioactive material etc. A well-built one will allow you to survive for years. And again you can make decisions. If the time comes that it's decided that you don't have much time left to survive you can prepare for that eventuality. Also the government has bunkers, especially the military, all over the country and around the world. These are buckers where government military officials can survive for literally years. They will be working on ways to make the environment survivable again and bring back law and order. What else would they have to do in a bunker all day. People make him up with ways to survive while you're waiting it out. I feel sorry for the people who haven't prepared who are just going to die right away. What you don't realize is you probably won't just die right away either. If you're far enough away from a nuclear strike that it doesn't kill you right off you will likely die of radiation poisoning or some other horrible condition that you get. You'll wish you had of done more preparation at that point.

Fmj is completely fine for self defense. Hollowpoints are better in most cases yes, however fmj to the Dome is the same as Hp to the Dome lol In addition fmj is more useful in combat for penetration on barriers, windshields, doors ect. Also fmj is a 1/3-1/4 the cost typically. That being said you could practice and store much More ammo. Personally i prefer long term store ammo. Anything in a can, battlepack or it needs to at least have sealed primer and case neck. Lots of companies are offering new products of that sort these days. And sorry if you dont hold it you dont own it. Same as paper gold. I won't be stuck holding paper lol

AK tolerates steel cases and dirt better than AR run brass case keep it clean. Steel cases are extremely difficult to reload. TUI is mostly solid copper lead free. The AKs are often over gassed to insure operation. The AK can shoot lead cast bullets the tube takes longer to clog than the little AR tube.
@CR67
@CR67 Жыл бұрын
The AK is massively overgassed. Past the gas port, the AK bullet actually slows as it is no longer being pushed. The 7.62 is a good short range round, but beyond 400m it's strictly area of effect. I know guys that can hit soda cans at 1000m with their ARs.

@matthewriegner5180
@matthewriegner5180 Жыл бұрын
I would say this is a good number due to shortages/price increases. If shtf, you'll want at minimum 1k per cal. But more importantly, you'll want to know what shoots best through your guns and stock up on that. Ideally you'll get lucky and have a rifle/pistol that likes the cheap stuff. And not getting designer rounds is the other thing. 22lr, 556/223, 9mm/45, and 308, maybe 762x39. If you don't have weapons chambered in those you're just not in good standing.

I am in agreement with your need to feel safe and prepared. Good. From where I've been, you don't ever want to run out of ammo, air, water, toilet paper or food. My feeling (from experience of my own and not from some book) is that firefights are swift, very violent and you're hoping you'll be the winner. The opposition feels exactly the same way. It's a game of odds. Every time you need to resort to your "mountain of ammo", your odds are higher the next contact holds fewer odds in your favor. Remember, the other guy, or girl, knows when the hit is planned, you don't. They have prepped, trained and stored ammo till they don't have room to store clean underwear. Have ammo? Have guns? I do but I think those days will require a lot of other needs that will put a box car full of bullets farther down on the list if your sky does indeed start to fall around your ears.

You're correct, reloading is the way to go. Getting a progressive press (Dillon etc) makes the time behind the press, more productive. I'm not the fastest, and I can make 300+ in under 1/2 an hour. That shows that PRIMERS are required to take the stocking of ammo to the next step.

One of the mistakes is used to make was not rotating my stock and using the oldest stuff first. I was just too lazy to dig out the older cans and take that stuff to the range, but that’s a bad strategy. First in should be first out so that you’re always keeping your stockpile as fresh as possible.

How abought how much cleanng supply for your weapons and riffle barrels were out. Fireing pins , springsgun oil.
@bonjovi2757
@bonjovi2757 Жыл бұрын
AR15 barrels have a 30,000 round lifespan (if they are quality) or 20,000 for the budget guns. They'll still work but accuracy starts to drop off. Small parts (quality) are anywhere from 5000 rounds springs pins and such to 30,000 rounds triggers, hammers, firing pins. upper and lower receivers +/- 50,000 to 100,000 rounds. Again, in my opinion and from being an armorer at a police department. I am not an engineer or manufacturer. But my experience has held to these numbers. Clean every 1000 to 2000 rounds. but be aware that if you put a gun away dirty the carbon gets harder to clean off vs cleaning after a range trip. But a quality gun could easily run for 5000 rounds before cleaning. In my experience any gun solvent will clean. Any oil will lubricate. But the high end expensive solvents work if you left your gun dirty for long periods of time.

Good subjects touched upon here. Gentlemen if I say anything contrary to what has been said here I promise you I mean no sarcasm or disrespect. That said you mentioned that, for example, 9mm fmj bullets aren't an effective man stopper. I would suggest that millions of soldiers from all sides killed in wars with that very round would beg to differ. I am retired and on a very limited income. My edc, a taurus g3, cost $300 and took me 3 months to get out of layaway. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a supply of, say, hornardy critical defense 9mm rounds. but my local rural kings has 25 round boxes of them at a price of nearly $30. For the same money I can get 100 rounds of whatever fmj is on sale, it's really a no brainer. The going popular opinion is that fmj over penetrates and can cause serious injury or even death to an innocent bystander. While that is a distinct possibility I have yet to see a single documented case of it ever happening. I have however seen countless instances of property damage or serious injury or death caused by errant shots and this can happen no matter the style of projectile. So regarding fmj we have a bit of a paradox. On one hand alot of people say it has little stopping power, on the other hand the same people making that claim refuse to use it for defense because it over penetrates and can cause too much damage to innocents. These 2 trains of thought are in direct contradiction to one another. Just some food for thought.

The only problem with putting away “too much” ammo….is when the authorities consider your stash “an excessive arsenal” …and though it may not be illegal, and might be a reasonable amount for an avid target shooter, say 1000 rounds per caliber, the ATF or the cops or the media might not see it that way. This could put you into a tough spot.

You don't have to subscribe to Ammo Squared and Dan does suggest other ways of finding cheap ammunition. I subscribe because it's an easy "set it and forget it" way for me to invest in keeping the pile growing. I've had times where I was late to the range because I was scrambling around from shop to shop looking for 9mm and when I did find some, it was way more expensive than what I pay ongoing. Being able to reload spent brass is a huge money (time) saver. Granted, you can buy factory rounds cheaper than you can reload all new components right now. However, reloading spent brass you already own allows one to reload various rounds, as needed. It gives you flexibility and options according to conditions, as powders and primers can be shared across certain calibers. It is a good skill to have once running to the store or placing an order online is no longer an option. I don't advocate reloading all new components as the primary means to obtain ammo right now, as that WOULD be a waste of money (time). Buying factory rounds, currently, is more economical and convenient than buying all new components to assemble. Save all brass casings, as those can easily be 50%+ of the cost of a factory round.

the infinite money cheat code is actually well known, its federal reserve, its neither federal and has no reserve. its literally a cheat from the gate, just keep on printing and faking it until you make it..... its insanity at its finest.

I'm sure he's legit and well intentioned....but I think having someone else store your ammo is a really bad idea. When the SHTF, I wouldn't count on it getting to me. As @bonjovi2757 said, "If you can't touch it in 15 minutes, you don't really own it."
