hey mate, just a quick tip i would strongly suggest that you cut out a rectangular peice on the exhaust side of the compressor if you want your fridge to run more efficient. hence why its drawing so much power. those couple of holes would probbaly solve your probleam now, but once it heats up you would have the same error code

Thanks Matt, I'll keep that in mind mate. I'll be monitoring the temps and current draw for the next month or so, so I should get a fair indication with temps getting up around 40.

It's been said, but you need max air flow - a full size hole in and out. The heat from inside the fridge from the condenser goes out there. You'll improve performance more. Good show mate

Thanks Don, so far so good mate 👍🏽 even after the airflow increase from this vid, the difference has been night and day!

On the Bushman there is not as much shrouding around the compressor - less protection but much better ventilation. I built my surround to just cover one side and have a large cavity behind it. It works flawlessly, even in 40c ambient. Draws a max of 4 amps and cycles 50% of the time. It’s basically the same fridge.
@OutNAboutAustralia
@OutNAboutAustralia Жыл бұрын
I think that was half my problem, just leaving a 150mm cavity at the rear and assuming it would vent as easy as the Bushman. But for a little extra work, it hasn't been too much hassle

As said perhaps a full cut out with a mesh cover, also a case fan with thermostat is a great option to help increase the ventilation on the extra warm days

Thanks Luke, Agreed mate, temps should be cracking 40 over the next few weeks so I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if it needs more airflow.

I would of cut the hole a bit bigger and put a vent cover over it just saying

Yeah I recon the same as Frank. To keep it looking tidy, cut a rectangle out of the side and bolt that kings vent/cover on the side of the box. Would sort it out 100%

Id cut 2 huge holes and chuck 2 140mm high cfm exhaust fans that are hooked up to a temp sensor or even to the same signal wire as the fan on the fridge.

You should try the 12v fan mod inside the fridge to circulate the air from the freezer. Im going to try it on mine. It not only an issue with kings it also happens with the bushman fridge aswell.

I’d say so mate. Mine got to the stage where the fan cover and compressor housing was too hot to touch. Since I fixed the ventilation, I haven’t had a problem.

@@matt08sydneyagree, but I’m not sure if this type fridge do use an external condenser pipe run around the outside of these fridges as you have compared to a household fridge, generally they have a small condenser unit just behind the fan, not familiar with Kings system tho, but it definitely needs to breath better.

@@evil17 ahh okay I know the larger 12volts ones do with the separate freezer compartment up the top more so for RV,s , but this one only has an icebox up top , all good 👍

Hey mate you should have cut out the whole rectangle in the timber , also the oven there isn’t a great spot either , if you don’t want to do that you could install a fan from jaycar to draw the hot air out and have it come in when the fridge cycles on , the holes you drilled would make very little difference , cheers I enjoy your vids

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Figured this might just get me out of trouble before spending any money, but a proper vent or auxilliary fan does sound the goods.

The kings fridge didn’t need a fridge box like the bushman. Vent should of been cut to the same size as was already on the fridge. Your going to cook it and still have issues

Hey mate, The plan is to run it for another month and see how it travels. If it struggles at all, I reckon I'll be totally removing that section so nothings stopping airflow.

Without seeing how your unit is installed it could still be a ventilation issue, (not letting the compressor run) This would definitely stop the fridge getting cold.

They are rubbish mine runs continuously even in cooler weather. They have thermostat issues. The cabinet leaves a lot to be desired as does the circuit board in that fridge, I have the 110 litre it worked ok for about 5 months then crashed, apparently Kings are notoriously hard to get refund on faulty products, it's well published by disgruntled customers

I’ve heard a couple of horror stories about the 110L versions. Not having seen one I can’t really guess what the problems are. About the warranty though, I’ve never had a problem getting a warranty claim through providing I had a receipt or proof of purchase. Hope you get your one replaced mate 🤞🏽

100% In saying that though I’ve found that given enough airflow in the canopy and the air gap created by my roof rack it still runs well up in the 40’s.
