Hi! I have something different to add to this conversation. As everyone has already commented, Michael and Matthew are very talented and have much to offer. As I developed my garden, I looked at and read hundreds of garden books and watched the garden shows on PBS. I also toured gardens and would drive through neighborhoods looking at front gardens. Then, I looked at my land and thought about what I wanted and made my plan. The basics of my garden I designed in 2005. Through time I expanded borders and beds and added a flagstone patio to a place where nothing would grow, due to root competition from trees. I discovered the plants that love what my land has to offer and promoted them. All along the way my garden has fed my soul and nurtured me. I made mistakes along the way but, I treasure those mistakes because they were valuable teachers. I wouldn't have changed the process of these 18 years for anything. My garden is beautiful. No other designer could have created it. It is specific to my life and land. I say all of this to say, I wish for you that same joy of creation. A garden that comes from your heart and soul and life. It will be one of a kind and awesome.

Great plans but I agree with others that say no to the screen in front of your house. It completely hides your beautiful home and curb appeal is so important to you and to others coming up your driveway. Remember that sunrise view in a previous video? You wouldn't see as clearly and it was stunning. Love everything else but I think that screen is too heavy/blocking for that area. Wonderful ideas and the QR codes are amazing to see the whole picture. Get out of here a Halloween garden tour! Now I really like Michael Glassman even more!

Beautiful,especially the weeping trees on the island,however the screens on the zigzag planter appear to block the view from your windows.I would certainly want to see all that beauty from my front windows/patio.

Wow, the 3D plans are amazing. I would remove the panels on the zigzag planter so You can see them like you do now. Also would want to see the beautiful front yard while sitting on the deck. You can't see the beautiful view. Use the back yard for privacy and see the front . 😁

I love the plan that Michael Glassman has done for your property. I’ve been a designer for 40 years and I think that it’s really very genius. The only concern I have is that coming from your barn your your corrugated garage with a wheel barrel or something to get into your raised bed garden or your raised garden. You’re going to have to go around your office and greenhouse every time I think that there needs to be through fare between your office and the patio.

Agree! The only other thing I personally would change is the height of the front fence on the zigzag planter because as I sit on the new front porch, I would want to see 1) the gazebo and ALL my front landscaping. 2) The house itself as I enter from the new double gate & street. To me, it seems the "zigzag fence" swallows ranch house facade. Glad to see the front house pergola gone, but the height of zigzag fence although creating a "porch room" still closes off the front for my liking. I like the zigzag planter just the way it is with no fencing.

I would not want the privacy screen around the zig zag planter. It would hide your view of the front yard and it would hide the view of your beautiful vista bubblegum petunias that you wanted to plant in the zig zag planter when you drive up! That would be so stunning!

40yrs ago I was a beginner who fell in love with gardening just like you. I developed 2 big gardens from flat weed yards into amazing places to grow a family with pets and vegetables and secret spots too. Now I live in a senior condo community with lovely communal areas and I have taken on the job of Garden Committee Chair. I have a crew of young gardeners to do the work and I just point at what I want done. The Life of a gardener is a JOY 😽🙏☮️

Amazing! I love it! The only thing I would change are the panels in front of the house, i would try to see how to add some openings to them so that you can enjoy your front gardens views from the house and not feel too enclose.. or maybe reduce the height of them to see how it looks :). The plans look great! I think you'll be really happy with the paths, planting beds, pool, patios, etc. I'm amazed they included the lighting. How cool! A few concerns: I'm surprised the entrance isn't covered all the way to the door. It does rain occasionally, even in CA. 😂 Not sure you'll like not being able to see the front yard from the house at all. That seems a little cave-like. I had envisioned the gazebo being raised higher and having plants around the back. It seems stark and out of place just rising straight out of the asphalt. Won't you miss the shade from the pergolas? The pool definitely needs to go in first, if at all! Your family can enjoy it next summer instead of waiting until the girls are moving out. (They will be gone by the time your yard is done, in case you haven't put that together!) And you won't need to destroy your hard work to get it in there later, either. I'm a big fan of Michael's belief that we waste resources when we don't plan ahead. I hope you and Jason take some time to really imagine living with each suggested element and map out a rough plan for what happens when. I cringe a little every time you say, "my home" or "my plans". "My garden" is okay, if you're the only one invested in the garden, but everything else should be "OUR", starting with "Our landscape design plans are ready"! Jason and the girls are far more important than anything else there and you share the home and the yard with them. Whatever you do needs to work for your family first.🤔

It’s a great plan overall and the technology is amazing for bringing it to life. I question the front house design and hope you really factor in how you plan to live in your house and garden because (1) no shade on a porch in TX zone 9 makes the area unusable for MONTHS , would think it’s the same for you? Looks is one thing but practicality matters more; (2) I wouldn’t want a wall in front of my house that blocks the view of the entire front garden …don’t you enjoy sitting out there now just being able to see everything? You have a fence and gate, why do you need a wall?

Amazing plans❣️ Consider the front entryway into your home wide enough for a wheelchair ♿️ just if there was a need. Second consider a portion of the screen movable by where you sit in the front of your porch so you can see the gazebo or your plants. So you can see it from the sitting area in your front porch if you choose to or close it if you don't want to see the front plantings around the gazebo. 💝🕊💝

Michael is a gifted visionary, the 3D renderings are such a practical and useful tool. I agree completely with the other viewers who have stated they would eliminate the screen in the zig-zag planter. Why would you want to lose your view of your beautiful yard from your front patio and inside the house??? Your house is set back far enough from the road that its unnecessary for privacy. I would also push that gazebo off the corner a bit 10-15 ft. toward the center. So fun to see the potential your property has.

Although your video goes front to back, I wanted to start my comment back to front. I love the majority of the plans for out back. It is much like I envisioned when you previously spoke about you wanted. I did not like the cut metal screens to the side of the new deck. I can see why at the end heading for the shade garden and the hot tub you might want something. The ones near the actual building look like over kill. It makes that area look cluttered to me. The portager area, I recommend taking you time to see what design you might like most. I live in 9b Florida and am also putting one in. I have pinned dozens of ideas. Then as time goes by and I look through my window and sit in my yard after many months it is beginning to take shape for how I think I would use it any would enjoy seeing it. It is so close to your main deck, I really encourage you to take your time with it. Now the whole front that you have been working on in the Orchard and the middle garden looks fine. The fountain is not by taste by the gazebo, but if it is yours go for it! The front deck/zig zag area...I felt crushed that you are thinking about limiting your vista. People move to the country for a wide-open view. Now you seem to be limiting it like you're in a tiny apartment courtyard. Honestly do you need that much privacy? I strongly encourage you to take down the covering to add more light to the inside and then live with the view a while longer. Also making the area all one level is great! But trying to make a ranch rambler have grandeur is actually limiting it's chance to shine on it's own. I love the espalier wall! Why block how beautiful that is going to look when in full growth. Now having a 2nd fountain in front of the house again seems like over kill. I am sure there is many other ways to highlight the front of the house I see room for another espalier wall in front and also beside the garage door. Now the view from the guest area...well again it would be a matter of taste. You might want to put a door in place of the window leading to a small private courtyard for guests with a small 2-seater table go for it. It would be nice possibly with a little fountain there. Here the screens would work. I love all the paths, but these again will develop over time as you plant. I do not post very often, but I am one of your biggest fans and have always loved your practical garden sense. Please don't get dazzled and loose the practical reasoning of a ranch rambler and go for the instant gratification of every style you have ever seen in a magazine or on Pinterest. Your friend as always. K.

Look at the cost for: concrete planters versus brick or concrete blocks. I live in Arizona which has a lot of ranch style homes, that had the wall which provided privacy however most have removed the wall. You live in a secluded neighborhood why the wall where you can not see your front yard or orchard?! Why not have rain containers to save on water with all the fountains? Not to mention the pool in the future. Love the plan so far and your channel!

They definitely need rain barrels and they make some nice looking ones that look like faux planters compared to the ugly blue barrels. But I thought California restricts watering so they should have back up for all the watering.

Totally agree with comments above. With all the new plantings in the front island, maybe the feeling of being exposed in the front will be eliminated and maybe there is no need for that fence covering the view of the front garden. If you were doing it for curb appeal, how about some arches on the zig-zag garden like you have on your raised planters on the back. Also, the fire place is awesome, but how about a fire pit? You guys will need a place to roast marshmallows and make s’mores when the girls have friends over. Michael and Mathew did a fantastic job! Clearly they are professional but immensely talented. You and Jason do what’s best for your family but thank you for sharing the process and taking us along. Speedy recovery J ❤

So excited for you Janey and Jason. I love the look, and i know in real life,with all the plants it will be stunning. Just have others have said, the fenced front patio blocking the view, and the working access to your back yard are my only concerns, but I know you all will figure it out.

That's so cool to be able to look into the future, that's modern technology... everything looks so perfect, he truly is a pro... I was hoping there would be a little play area for your 2 little girls, maybe swings or a playhouse... me and my sisters had those growing up, nothing fancy but we had hours of fun, especially when friends were there too.

Janet the front area near the zig zag looks good but why did you purchase a huge block and then put those huge screens up to block put your garden out the front? That technology is amazing. ☺️🙏🏼🇦🇺🍷

True, however having garden “rooms” can make the garden more inviting. Makes you want to go out and wander. If you can see it all from the house why would you need to wander out and explore? I’ve learned this trick from English garden videos. - eg, morning coffee today in front enclosed courtyard, tomorrow wander out to the gazebo.

Love seeing this whole process! Beautiful design! One thing I would say about the tile patio, we have that and it’s super slippery when it rains. I’m in Tampa so we obviously get a lot more rain and humidity so this may not be an issue for you but felt compelled to mention it. We are about to replace the tile.

@christieglenn1756
@christieglenn1756 11 ай бұрын
How would that help Janey, Linda Vater is very dominant and she has her own taste, Janey is totally different, just my opinion. Janeys garden has so much more potential. I think Janey had a great garden and when evrything is done, it will be even better. I sometimes watch Linda Vater, she has her own style ….

@@christieglenn1756 Linda has featured other gardeners on her channel. This would encourage Linda’s viewers to take a look at Janey’s channel, thus increasing viewership for Janey. I follow a few KZbinrs and this is quite common. I never would have discovered some channels were it not for others sharing information about other channels.

I know some people are saying not to do the screen up front. I had a property just like yours, long and narrow and rural. I think the idea is good if you want to shade the front of the home during really summer days, if you want sound dampening, of if you want the home to have a smaller yard around it to keep pets in for the future (you get a puppy or smaller dog), you may want small grass area connected to it on the side where the ADU is that is screened and enclosed but not planted so if a dog in future it has potty area). We at first thought we didn’t want to block our view like everyone is saying but over time realized our patio was so sun scorched and hot we couldn’t sit on anything or use it until dark even with an arbor and umbrellas bc of angle of sun (it faced west). Truck sounds also drove me a little crazy- we were rural but flat land carries sound. You will know what works for your space when the time comes. Think of sunset, sunrise and heatand sound and different times of year and if dog in future, and when you will use that space versus your back space. Remember removing the pergola is going to bring a lot more sun into front rooms too, could be hot. Could add shade cloth later.

You make very good points all around. But note her yard has the opposite orientation to yours, the future uncovered courtyard faces east and the back with the covered porch faces west.

Talk about mind boggling and beautiful plans! Michael Glassman and Matthew have just put every landscape architect in North America on speed dial as we all sit here watching the 3D plans unfold before our eyes and begin trying to find our own Michael Glassman in our home cities. I truly believe we have all had our eyes opened to the incredible value a landscape architect can bring to our homes before we even begin to think about how to landscape or garden when we build or move into new homes. The plans are so detail oriented, with fabulous suggestions, and using products many of us don't even know exist.....bravo to all of you. What an incredible roadmap they've provided for your future!

Front is too closed off by the screens. The little front entry thing lacks flow. Just needs tweaked a bit. Maybe get a couple more options for front entry. Love most of it. Patio is definitely way to go.

This process is helpful for Michael and his team to show clients, because when he first walked the property I couldn’t get a vision in my head he’s so quick. Fantastic tool! I’d look for another choice instead of wisteria, they are so heavy and beastly strong, I’ve seen them break structures over time.

This is beautiful and the 3D imaging is amazing! I wanted to write to say that personally I also would not screen in your front patio. I love the front yard with the gazebo, orchard and walking paths so much ❤ I would want to look at those from the front windows. I cannot wait to see what you plant everywhere but especially in the orchard and secret shade garden. It has been so fun to watch the plantings going in and i will love to watch them grow.
