► Butterick 6901 waistcoat pattern review video • My Latest Make: Sewing...
This week I'm sharing my latest make with you - a simple, full gathered skirt. The pattern and fabric are available to buy on our site, see links below. You can also find the full review of the waistcoat I made below and the pattern and fabric I made it with.
I sewed this skirt for a number of reasons.
Firstly I'm really enjoying sewing and wearing simple skirts. I'm very short on time at the moment, but still need my sewing fix and love having skirt options to wear instead of jeans.
Secondly I noticed full skirts with pleats or gathers and skirts in general are going to be really big this Autumn and I thought it would be good to have another pattern in my stash I could easily whip up in a winter fabric and wear with boots and a lightweight knit too.
Thirdly I loved the Dior inspired idea on the Sewing Bee that Ailsa made combining a very feminine, full skirt with a tailored waistcoat and wanted to recreate this look.
The pattern is McCalls 8066 and is an incredibly easy sew perfect for beginners or advanced sewers who want to make something very, very quickly. I sewed it up in our broderie anglais fabric and lined it with our white polycotton.
I sewed a medium (my waist was at the top of this size band) and I still had to adjust the elastic to make it fit better, but you can't beat an elasticated waist for an easy to alter fit and comfortable wearing.
A lovely, simple straightforward project.
