Thanks Dave, like you said it’s mostly the aesthetics of the knife that turned me off. They are still great users for sure. Rough Ryders are so inexpensive it’s easier to test them out without burning my bank account

I only have a few Rough Ryders. All have plain bolsters and no shield to fall out. Don't get me wrong, they are good pocket droppers. I'm just not a big fan of the excessive billboarding on most of their knives. And I just don't like the big R on the bolster. But what you get for the price is a pretty good, very usable pocket knife in my opinion.

I agree 100% I went on a Rough Ryder collecting frenzy early on. I’ve been teaching myself to slow down and only get the ones that I know I’ll like. I want to enjoy and carry them more before moving on to the next one. Do you plan on getting any of the new shieldless and R’less cinnamon bone carbon Rough Ryders?

Your same complaint on that purple teardrop jack actually sums up my reason for not wanting to carry my case teardrop perfectly. I like the knife but always worry in gonna possibly break it doing even the lighter task I use traditionals for. Mine is going to stay in the collection but only because it matches the rest of my displayed case amber jigged bone knives.

I think that you culls from your collection are all knives that most new collectors will enjoy. Every collectors taste in knives changes as they collect knives. Passing some on is normal for others you like is part of the hobby.

@@MrBarlow You probably have a pattern that you like more, or one you always wanted to try. I would suggest buying a more premium knife that is a personal favorite of yours. If you are trying to reduce the number of knives in your collection, more premium knives is good way to do that. Knives that retain their value or gain value save forfeits in your investments. It is hard to pick one favorite knife for me. One on the list would be a Schatt & Morgan equal end two-blade knife made in 2007 and before. 🤔

Haven’t considered thinning the herd. I am probably gonna pick up that Queen knife at some point. RR only made 2 versions of the teardrop which surprised me as it was very popular. I have both versions but as you say the bigger the collection the less time each knife gets for carry. Thanks for sharing.

The Teardrop is one pattern I really would like, the etch on the blade doesn't botther me but that big R on the bolster bugs me, think RR should bring one out in the RRR range, surprised you don't like the blue denim, hope you do an update of how the sales go.

I fancy Case’s teardrop a little more but it’s a little too small and the blade is too thin. If the RR didn’t have the shield and etch I probably would have kept it. But anyways, it was a good useful knife for sure. Good size. This knife lot just sold for $73 if that’s what you were wondering. More knife funds!

Agree, I dislike the stamped bolsters too, but it would never keep me from keeping a knife, mainly because I know it is there before I order it and that takes backseat to function and fit and finish with these budget knives. Just me though.

The cinnamon stag bone barlow is one of my favorite Rough Ryders . I also dislike my bow trapper in the blue micarta .

Only bought one big R bolster RR because I liked the carbon steel blades. They make otherwise nice knives look tacky. Yeah, I got more selective as time went on and put a limit on how many knives I would buy but it was one big toolbox full. I have a fair few fixed blades too which soon start to take up lots of space so one toolbox isn't that much and the traditional folders are in tool rolls, even more space gone. I'd personally probably keep the green micarta Sowbelly and the Queen Cutlery Stockman but have to agree with you on the rest you're selling.

Great video. But -- as you say -- knives are like art, it's all in the eye of the beholder (subjective). I have three of those on my wish list: both Denim Trappers and the Cattleman Jack. That single-blade Bow Trapper really appeals to me. I also like the RR Wharcliffes (I have two; not the sparkle).

While as a young man sitting around campfires and reflecting with my old fart buddies, the things that they regretted parting with were the cars/pickups, guns, knives lost and women that got away. That last one might move up a notch but never number one if it was a vehicle. If you don't need the cash, put them in a box and forget about them. You never know how you will feel in ten years...which goes by mighty fast.

I really hate their etched blades. The brand is already plastered on the shield, tang and bolster. It doesn’t need to be on the blade too. It brings an otherwise nice looking knife into the cheap and tacky looking category.
