I adore the North. My great grandfather and great grandmother were both born in Utsira, the western-most island of Norway, in late 1880s. Half of the community immigrated to Canada when they were youngsters. The island had 900 inhabitants, now much less. The women were the government way back, because the men were all out on the fishing boats. I also knit.

Hello Sanna I am amazed at what you are doing and to learn of your life in the Nordic it amazes me ..your short summers and long cold winters and most of all how you love to be there .I live in South Africa where the sun shine all year round and our winters are not that cold. @@sannavaara This will be my 4th visit this past year. Spent Christmas in Helsinki, then back in Helsinki in February, enjoyed the midnight sun in Rovaniemi in June. Next month back to the Lapland area, then coming back in late December to do the Christmas markets in Helsinki, Tampere, then over to Tallinn... (as you probably can tell, I totally love Finland).

Sanna hey, have you dried your abundance of fruit, berries, veggies like your teas. a dehydrator if you can get your hands on one may be easier. enjoy hearing your Finnish voice, as being a second generation I don't think we have carried on the accent the way my uncles and aunts had from their parents.

Hi Sanna! Strawberry shortcake is a common American summer dessert. I'm sure you can find recipes online for different variations but the idea is a small shortcae or spongecake, a lot of cooked down strawberries piled over it, topped with whipped cream or even ice cream. Yummy!
