AN INSPIRATIONAL armless athlete has found her ‘purpose’ and confidence after riding motorbikes as a form of therapy. Nadia Lauricella, 26, from Sicily, has phocomelia syndrome. The rare condition causes malformations of the limbs, resulting in the absence or extreme shortening of bones at birth. Nadia was born without arms, missing part of her leg, and with a curved spine. She was “never bullied at school” but did encounter prejudice from strangers. However, Nadia was determined not to let her condition stop her from living her life to the fullest. She discovered the benefits of motorbike therapy for disabled people after watching a KZbin video showing riders with a range of abilities - and she has confidence now, despite the odds being stacked against her.

It depends on where you go, but It's considered a shame bullying someone because of their body. I know some people with disability where I live and they are nice and good people no one would put them down. They inspire me, but I also feel ashamed of complaining about the things that I do complain about. Not tears because I feel sorry for this beautiful lady - because she seems fiercely independent and capable, even with what some may see as a handicap. I think without a harness it forces her body to keep balance. Hence it is actually a workout in itself. The helmet wouldn't really work and put her into a less safe position as it would be a like a big block between her and the guy. I don't think she is in any danger there. She ain't wearing a helmet when she is walking, even though she 'could' fall. Sometimes you have to be a little daring in order to feel life. She's one decent person. Good for her.
