In fairness to Superman, some of the better renditions have him change a lot about himself - he holds a more passive posture, is a notable wimp, and of course dresses differently. Though, I do also like the fan theory of "yes, of course we know Kent's Superman, but if you shut up about it, you can get at least *some* of your plan done while he's playing pretend."

A.K. Yearling being Daring Do isn't as obvious as people think. It's less obvious than Clark Kent being Superman at least. And people underestimate the differences between those two personas. Clark Kent and Superman have different postures and personalities. And a little known fact is that Clark Kent's glasses are enchanted to change his eye color. Daring Do and A.K. Yearling also have different hairstyles. The only way you can claim they are the same, just by appearance is their color schemes. But you don't see anyone claiming Daring Do and Quibble Pants are the same pony. The irony is that these kinds of observations aren't even consistent in the fandom. Daring Do and A.K. Yearling are obviously the same pony because they have the same coloration. Yet other characters who have the same coloration and are the same pony are two different ponies? Like Rainbow Dash's father for example. His first appearance was in a flashback from Rainbow Dash. But people claim he's someone else because he has a different design and name. The different name was just a placeholder name that was never canon. And the design actually is canon if you take into account another flashback that RD had that showed her parents, with her father with the same hairstyle as the supposed other character. The best way to prove the placeholder name is that Derpy's name was originally supposed to be Ditzy. And unlike Bo Hothoof's placeholder name, the name Ditzy was actually canon.
@pubbidrewl4 жыл бұрын
also going off of that, if other ponies noticed something, like the same colour schemes, a lot of authors portray themselves in their works as a way to have some kind of free liberty and excitement. its very possible that a.k. yearling did that since she appears to be this holed up quiet author.

Personally i thought the episode was a bit of a let down, especially with what they did with Ahuizotl, i mean ever since he was first introduced in the serie, all the things he did made him out to be a villain, but then this episode comes along, making him go from being a perfectly understood bad guy to a misunderstood good guy?...if that's not lazy and or lousy writing for a character i don't what is...but that's my opinion and i'm sticking to it.

I GUESS causing 800 years of sweltering heat WOULD stop people from entering his jungle, I guess? of course that just makes him a different flavour of asshole. also just cause Cabelleron liked Fluttershy doesn't change the other shit he's tried to steal and other crimes he has committed. The only reason we're giving Discord a chance here is cause he's like really fucking powerful.

And none of the faults would have been as glaring if they would have gone with one-off foes or this was a standalone piece. But, when you try to cram established characters in where the plot contradicts established motivations....... (insert image of Fallapart Rabbit from Bonkers here)
@Samantha_yyz3 жыл бұрын
I actually like that it points out Daring isn't fully in the right here. It doesn't fully commit and out right explain this but it does take a few steps in the direction of it. The episode pokes at how characters like her an Indiana are still ultimately stealing artifacts from their own culture and ppl. Only to bring them to a museum in another country, where the ppl that artifact belongs to can't access it anymore. Now they didn't go that far but they did mention how Daring damages the natural landscape and historical sights when achieving her goals, they just didn't go all the way and outright way how she is also a thief
@autumbreeze11295 жыл бұрын
yeah, I still kinda question the whole idea of Ahuizotl being a good guy just trying to protect the artifacts thing. Did the writers forget the whole thing in Daring Don't where he was fully ready to subject the area around the temple to 800 years of sweltering heat? You can't just go and say he was doing that for a good reason. The type of sweltering heat he was talking about would kill everything around the temple, turning it into a desert wasteland. That's hardly PROTECTING the Jungle. That's outright eradicating it. Unless he meant a *different* kind of heat, in which case... yeah, that's still kinda messed up, even if it were likely because of an animal or tribal ponies population decline. And regarding the "world will suffer" line from Daring's first episode, remember that was as Dash was reading the book, so it was already written, so it was from Daring's perspective. She viewed Ahuizotl as a villain and so probably assumed that was the kind of thing he'd say, so wrote it. It doesn't change the idea this episode suggests if you actually think about it. As for those other "Guardian Creatures" he talks about, the only creatures that come to mind are that Alligator thing from Stranger Than Fanfiction and the Sphinx from Daring Done?. Plus, Daring still has enemies to contend with. Starwalt Stallion, iz at least ONE we know of. And now she can fight him with aid from Caballeron and Ahuizotl, making it easier to stop any of his plans. Wow. A throwaway idea from EQG actually helps explain something in the show.
@SleepyWhistles5 жыл бұрын
The writers forgot about the continuity probably 🤣
@stanislawwitkowicz9185 жыл бұрын
About the heat though, if this episode tells us truth, it was Daring Do who originally started all of this mess, and so, we may assume that what Ahuizotl was doing was enacting revenge on her. And everyone else. Characters in this show can do crazy things when they're mad. This "little misunderstanding" was really an absurdal, infinite hatred helix between those three

Yah good fun Fluttershy episode. Also good way to poke fun at characters like Indiana Jones cuz yeah he's trying to keep it from nazis and put it in a museum, but he is still stealing it from the culture and ppl of the area and trading back to his country. @@clockwerk35 I mean if we are talking real life and not ponies, pretty sure, Egypt, India, China, Bangladesh, Congo, all the indigenous nations in the Americas, and SO many more would be more than happy to get their cultural artifacts back. Actually the USA actually made it illegal to do exactly what Indiana does, belive the laws were added in the 70s. You can't take artifacts out of a country and bring it to the USA with that country's express permission. Because ppl shouldn't be stealing other people's cultural history.

There may be the fact that the part about awuizotl being evil is the fictioned part of Daring's stories. I won't go into heavy detail about how to explain how the adventure with Rainbow Dash fitionalozed awuizotl's evil. That would be too much of a headache, and too many words to explain it.

Ahouzotal isnt the protector of the jungle. Hes the protector of relics. And the years of sweltering heat were specifically going to affect the (whatever its name is) basin. You know what's more hostile to traverse than a jungle? A desert. Sounds like thatd be a great improved defense against people trying to steal your relics.

Funny how you brought up Discord's reformation, considering Fluttershy earning Caballeron's respect reminded me heavily of that. As for Ahuizotl, it was a surprise to hear he had always been good, but it does explain why he was never on Celestia and Luna's radar. While this wasn't exactly the best episode, it wasn't the worst, either. It did have its moments,such as what some of the characters said while wearing the Truth Talisman (like Rainbow Dash talking about getting a deluxe spa treatment).

This is like the [now] common case of downplaying heroes and attempting to add a victim-like point of view towards villains, as though said villains are blameless for the actions they are clearly doing and are not taking responsibility for said actions. Firebrand posted a video essay concerning this writing style and mindset. Believe me, continuity problems isn’t the only thing that’s KOed in the crossfires. DX

Good. at least someone else mostly understands how objectively bad of an episode this was. I feel like the only one who sees how bad of a reformation both of these are. Smurf just accepted it at face value, and bunches of people on facebook groups seem to love it. It's like no one understands how great storytelling actually works and they excuse anything and everything because "muh friendship". From how you've presented it, I think I'm a bit more upset about it, but I'm ecstatic that someone big in the community gets it at least. Thank you!

This could have been the best Daring Do Episode, but they just HAD to ruin it at the End. Caballeron and his Goons seeing the Error of their Ways I can accept, because at least there was Build up in the Episode. Even Tempest turning into a good Guy was better, because at least they wrote her with a Redemption in Mind. But Ahuizotl? 😂 Writers, NOBODY buys your cheap Retcon! It is so obvious that they just want all possible Antagonists out of the way. In the laziest Way possible. Why not just trap Ahuizotl forever down there in that Sun Temple? He won't do any more bad Stuff, and you don't have to insult our Intelligence.

Call me an idiot but Dr. Caballeron's "Backstory" is even worse than Starlight's. At least with Starlight, at the time, she only had 2 (both being 2-parters) to establish herself as a villain and had some episodes to expand on it (ex. The Crystalling) and it didn't blatantly contradict what we already knew meanwhile Caballeron had multiple season (4,6, and 7) to establish as a recurring bad guy and he isn't intimidating, he just Glomgold from DuckTales minus the backstory and the humor. Caballeron isn't interesting, *HE'S BORING*, just a greedy bad guy for riches Starlight's backstory may've been weak but at least it was only in her 2 episodes and not in stuff we already established like with The Daring Do story arc To say this was a disappointing way to end the Daring Do story arc would be an understatement
@juanmanuelpenaloza92645 жыл бұрын
Okay can everyone stop with the Indiana Jones Caballeron-is-a-Nazi comparison? If anything he's more of a discount drug lord type of villain. Just saying there's a difference between a group of xenophobic, all-destructive individuals and people (ponies) that do it for the money. And about that 'belongs in a museum' comment. Does it really?! I mean, I know plenty of things that belong somewhere else. Japanese katanas, African tribal masks, General Antonio de Santa Ana's leg.
