Seems to me like the longer we wait for the appearance of the parents of a main cast member the more significant of an appearance they get. Twilight's, Pinkie Pie's and Rarity's parents appeared relatively early and only for brief cameos. Then came Fluttershy's parents and while the episode was mostly about Zephyr, they still had a much bigger role. And then we finally get the parents of Rainbow Dash and Applejack and they get entire episodes dedicated to them. At this rate Spike's parents are going to get a two-parter season finale.
@sarasamaletdin45747 жыл бұрын
I hope Spike's parents don't show up. I think his story is an adoption story and he dealth with his Dragon side already so it would be a retread to see the parents. I want Scootaloo's parents and Cadance's backstory in the show.

Scootaloo's too... well maybe there's some big parent-centered thing in the end...quest to find Scootaloo's parents maybe? Or Starlight Shimmer's? Or Spike's. *Ponies* don't know (except maybe Celestia) but maybe some dragons do? Or just why Spike is the only dragon without wings? Is it just because he's still a baby? Also, it is regular for a dragon child to live with the father? Where IS Amber's mother? Is Amber the ONLY female dragon still around or were only males summoned to this contest (to be Amber's suitors, the winner getting the girl -- classic fairy-tale thing really.)

I seem to recall Applejack saying how proud their parents would be of Applebloom once she got her cutie-mark if they were still around. I think that technically counts as foreshadowing. Though, with as much pony content as you go through, I can fully understand how a single sentence of dialogue could be overlooked. However, while I do agree this episode still comes out of left field, it's still a pretty by the numbers kind of episode, with the thin patina of newness to the tired concept of 'romeo and juliet lovers' being the audience already knowing that they were dead from the get go, since songs/music (which was admittedly better than the songs we've been getting for a few seasons now) are an otherwise cheep way to heighten emotions when the story would otherwise not warrant anything of such strength. So it leaves me with little choice but to rank this episode squarely within the same place as the episode where Twilight read a pony-version of 'The Christmas Carol'.

I remember watching this episode for the first time and barely holding back ALL the tears. I'm pretty sure I was actually camping when I saw it, in fact. Anyways. It's still one of my favorites, partly because of the wonderful song, partly because it was such a believable relationship that you actually get to watch grow and develop, which we sadly never got to see with Cadence and Shining Armor, since we met them when they were already in love and about to be married (I still love them though, and the episode released within the last few days, The Best Gift Ever, helped me to see more of THEM as a couple, not just as parents or as royal couple, or as separate characters like, stagnant, Cadence, or Coach Armor.)

Mad Munchkin - I have to disagree. Not only did they have amazing attention to detail within the episode, but the story in general brought out so many different emotions. +Mad Munchkin: I guess that depends on what you care about. People who call it a near perfect episode consider it so because of how it told the story and how interesting the characters were, among other things. Finding out who the Apple parents were is for them considered more important than simply knowing how they died. When it comes to finding out who they were, how they got together, how their children feel about them, etc. the episode answered tons of questions. To say it didn't answer any questions ignores all that info.

I agree this episode is probably the best Hasbro has ever made. It actually has a strong message and meaning and I can see why they put it off for so long becuase they wanted to show kids and adults a beautiful love story that had hardships, relationships, and how to cope when a loved one has passed. And explaining a story by using characters that went along the journey and played a part in it through small moments that had together. And grandpear leaving his daughter by a fight and her having to choose between her father or her husband is a big deal and having to have that guilt of never seeing his daughter again of of his pride and by a fight that could have been resolved. It just just DAMN SO GOOD! I can go on and on but this episode made me cry harder than an infant! Just saying! XD

Marten Sporleder I guess you have a point but I'd say here it was done better. The original was a cautionary tale. You had a bunch of teens in their out of control chormonal state kill themselves from infatuation cause the family was too focused on a fued to help the kiddies handle their emotion. Both Were teens who just got a crush which got out of hand. In this episode on the other hand the main couple had an actual long lasting RELATIONSHIP. They knew eachother since they were kids. Makes way more sense for one of them to turn away from their family for the one they love
@BlueSpring37 жыл бұрын
yugoxgc you're right. I do admit, that it was more like a basic structure for the episode. A lot of aspects were changed or not included. (for example they didn't comit suicide or something. Might also be due to the show's rating and target audience, but I'm just happy about that.) Overall, when you watch the episode, you feel the reference to Romeo and Juliet with the whole love couple within family fued thing. That's were I had the only problem with the episode.

Interesting note: in Season 1, death is actually mentioned quite a bit. For example, the song "Art of the Dress" contains the line "Couldn't you just simply die?" Keep in mind, this was back when the show was written ONLY for little girls; the Brony fandom didn't exist yet. This is a stark contrast to today, in which they avoid it like the plague. Some of the word substitutions get rather awkward.
