This is such a huge piece of land I would try to utilize it, instead of turning it into a lawn. Maybe plant an orchard in it. Diversifying your produce doesn't seem to be such a bad idea to me, when you're faced with such narrow financial profit margins every year with just corn and beans. Could be the department of Neva in the future. But this would also require cold storage. And of course young fruit trees to plant aren't cheap either. So all in all also quite an investment. But, speaking as a Dutchman who knows a bit about farming (grew up on a farm), I think this could yield a nice additional source of income.

Harvest is generally in October, sometimes you can get some started at the end of September but that gives him 3-4 weeks to finish stuff up. That's not a lot of time but with how hard Cole is willing to work he could get it done. I agree though unless his carpenter friend is willing to put in extra hours it is unlikely the porch will get done before harvest. They may have some time after harvest to get it done before winter fully sets.

The storm and it’s damage and clean up are a testament to why you need to get the machines ready for harvest as soon as planting is over. Thank goodness Cole has really been pushing that. @@8tomtoms8 To do a French tuck, all you need to do is tuck the front-middle part of your top/shirt/jumper into the front of your pants/jeans/skirt, leaving the back hanging out. The idea is to tuck just the very bottom of the shirt in to allow the material to fold over at a more flattering length.

"Remember, that year that the derecho took out the machine shed? That must have been what - 20 years ago?". Like I tell my son, bad times give you so much appreciation for the good ones. And you've got it pretty good right now, come to think of it. You've got your family. Man, you're rich. Good job, Cole. And thanks Daddy Cornstar. I was very sorry to see the amount of damage to YOUR farm and grain bins, and unfortunately a lot of other USA Farmers seem to have suffered a lot worse from those winds - it must have been awful for ALL who were affected - AND no doubt very costly I'll bet, even WITH INSURANCE (because those GREEDY Git Insurance Companies DO NOT LIKE TO PAY OUT for ANYTHING albeit the BARE MINIMUM!!). Still, it looks as though you are getting on with it, WELL DONE. Also, how lucky you are following those winds, that the rain has held off while you have that hole in the roof covered, its a good job you are not here in England it's pissed it down this summer, how I envy the CONTINUAL beautiful sun and blue skies you show on your vids - Well done to ya all!!

If I lived closer I would be happy to help the Corn Star Family clean up the mess the storm caused.

Looks so good since you started cleaning up. Also good to know that you're recycling instead of just dumping it somewhere. Doddycornstar, I like it that you make me laugh. It helps me when I'm not feeling good.
