Did not make sense to me. You said there was white dust in the lid (4:34), that is paper dust from it working. At 3:27 there looks to be a bit of paper in it. With that fault it would have never run to make the bit of paper and the dust. Could it be that someone has been in there before you? Edit. Maybe they run it on a test rig in the factory and bypass that switch?
@Mymatevince10 күн бұрын
To me it looks new or nearly new so I'm not sure about that white dust as the bin itself was spotless. There was evidence of a bit of paper in the shredder and the guy I bought it from wouldn't have attempted a fix on it. It doesn't make any sense, as why would the wires have been swapped round after the thing was working after leaving the factory. I wonder does the blades get adjusted in the factory before they are placed into the housing, could this be where the paper has come from maybe from test sheets. I really don't know. Unless someone very clever didn't want the product and swapped the wires to send it back as faulty. Seems unlikely, and a bit over the top, but who knows. Maybe the comments section will have more info after some time 👍

Another nice one, Vince! Very odd it was never used. That white dust is usually from shredding the paper in it and it looked like there was some paper pieces in the shredder part. That could have been left over from some form of quality control at the factory? Who knows! I have a shredder very similar to that one and it worked fine and when I plugged it in last it just stays on when I have it in the on position. I'm guessing the sensors need cleaned. Always something!!
@Mymatevince10 күн бұрын
Thank you, all very odd. If the white dust really is from paper, I don't understand how it got there, unless they test the cutting blades in the housing at the factory, but not via the circuit board/control board. Maybe they test direct to the motor and the next part of the assembly line puts in the control board. Unusual fault though 👍
@Jookia7 күн бұрын

Nice satisfying job, good lesson in observing the basics and not relying on the manufacturers to have gotten it right - easy to miss that one. The bridge rectifier readings are correct, one way should be nothing - the other way 2 readings the same, the 3rd will be double the value as it's going through two of the four diodes. That can be circuit dependent though. Out of circuit will always be that above reading (as far as i'm aware) in circuit can all read the same. Regarding being careful with the high voltage in caps - you should make that the very first thing you go to, check on the + and ‐ of the bridge rectifier (making sure you're through any coating) then to be double sure check the caps you suspect to be the potential killer ones. Check for voltage at least on the B/R each time you've put power into the board. I really recommend a discharge pen, cheap and easy to use. Little light on top to tell you when discharge complete, so handy when powering up and off to quickly allow safe handling. Caps can hold onto nasty voltage for weeks - some circuits as you know have discharge resistors but even those never trust before handling. You're one of a growing list of fix dudes that got me back interested in electronics and now regularly doing repair as a side thing - have been watching you for years. Cheers Vince, keep 'em comin' 👌

@andygardiner652610 күн бұрын
Well done spotting that. Can I suggest you get some blu-tak and stick a big lump somewhere handy? You can grab a bit to stick circuit boards to the table, blobs make good third hands when soldering (just don't get it too hot) and lots of other things ... All parts are then viewable from above by the camera so much better than trying to lay things on top of parts to stop them moving! It's also insulating so when you're playing with mains it can make things a bit safer as you don't have the board running away from your probes.

11k ohms is a common typical value for an NTC thermistor. NTC stands for negative temperature coefficient as you showed it reduces in value as it heats up. Also it's common practice, although not always followed, to put a discharge resistor across high voltage capacitors in power supplies. It's always a good idea to check before touching anything though to avoid an unpleasant jolt 😉

@Mymatevince10 күн бұрын
I think this one can do 15 sheets. I don't know how this left the factory as it couldn't have ever worked, but what is more intriguing is why is there white dust in the lid if it never worked, if that is indeed paper dust????
@gusbert10 күн бұрын
@@Mymatevince Good point. If the QC only went only as far as testing the functionality of the main board, then that would pass, because the wrong wiring of the harness is missed. If all that is true, then the "white dust" can only have come from the conditions in the factory, where paper dust would be common?
