Do you have a BNZ, Russian Capture or a WWII German Mauser? After buying this rifle a few years ago, I decided to learn about its history. Prayers and peace to the people and families forever changed from the camps.

Really well done presentation. To me knowing the path a rifle took through history adds just as much value as all matching numbers adds. These RC's are cool like that and sets them apart from just another k98

Thanks for all the info. I knew that I had a Steyr-made Mauser. (Also a bnz 43) I did not know the connection to the Mauthausen camp. Recently bought mine and shot it for the first time today. Zero issues. Very cool gun.

Excellent video. The Mauser 98 has a third locking lug at the back of the bolt. On serial numbers, the Germans numbered in blocks of 10,000, adding a letter under the number. Yours is a "u" block, so it was the 227,881st made in 1943. I acquired my first K98k in March, also a "bnz 43", but a" b" block. Also mine was heavily but beautifully sporterized sometime in the past, including changing to 7mm Mauser. It shoots 1 MOA with factory ammunition, and here in a couple of weeks I hope to harvest my first deer ever with it at the age of 66. Your rifle is really nice, and I think you got a good deal on it.

I Appreciate Your Excellent Review of the Rifle, which I hope to get, and I appreciate your detailed and respectful history of the horrors of it's construction with slave labor.

Thank for all the infos. And for reminding us that, during WW2, Germans were not just brave soldiers using cool guns...

I got a ‘41 BNZ that evidently went to Turkey after the war since it has a Turkish style sling swivel on the bottom of the stock and a import mark from Turkey through Navy Arms back in the ‘90s.

Good video, I have four K98 Mauser's from various military arsenals. If you want a more affordable Mauser to shoot more often, you need to get an Israeli K98, they rechambered theirs to 308.

I've certainly thought about a .308 chambered Mauser, as 7.92x57 certainly isn't as available and cheap like it once was. Thanks for watching!

Hope I helped you track down some of the history on your rifle. There's a good chance it was, but it's tough to tell. I'd do all the research you can on Kar98's built in the Steyr plant on that year. You know the year and the plant, which is a good start. Have you tracked down some of the other markings such as the Waffenamts?
