Dear Lord I am only on lorazepam, quetiapine, prozac and I feel a lot of side effects. You function extremely good considering how much meds you are on. By the way got addicted to your channel, we need more people with schizophrenia on youtube who are struggling and still live fulfilling life. Dear friends I took zoleptil zeldox risperdal socian abilify and I I'm on 20 mg Olanzapine but what makes me catatonic is Haldol it literally eats you alive inside and in real life it removes your ability to express yourself every time I'm with my doctor my thoughts are not in my head but the worst feeling is being eaten alive

Careful with the lithium...l have 3rd stage chronic kidney disorder...and never let them increase it. They increased mine, and a week later, was in icu in a coma. Both kidneys shut down, no symptoms, no warning. Try to find something to replace it, kiddo! ♥

Yes, good advice. Everyone here should try the medical ketogenic diet. It’s what you eat and don’t eat. Look up for the Baszucki Group. Learn how to not use SO much medicine but must learn to eat nutritiously.

Creativity is what gets me out of bed in the morning, and I try to do something creative every day! Helps with my mental health so much. And emotional intensity can be good and bad, and because of that I love it and I hate it at the same time. That is also how I feel about a lot of my mental illness journey, it’s… interesting and well, intense! But, anyways, you’re not alone for sure! Hang in there ^_^

I was diagnosed 15 years ago. I didn't accept help (meds) until 5 years ago. I still struggle so much. There are fewer voices on meds, but my mood swings are still a huge issue. Can you please help me Guage where I'm at compared to my fellow schizos? 😉 How often do you hear voices? When you do hear them, how long does it last? Days? Weeks? Etc... I feel like maybe I need to take stronger meds. It scares me, though. If I'm not throwing a bipolar fit. I'm numb. The only things I feel are nothing or frustration, heartache, and anger. Damn sorry, I'm rambling on and on. I just need to know what your experience is. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and hopefully for taking the time to reply.

@@5150mre I might have a different type of schizo, instead of hearing voices, I experience thought insertions. It's hard to track since usually it's so seamless, but after a while I realize that it wasn't my thought at all. From what I read from your comment, you might want to track, anticipate and mitigate your symptoms. It helped me a lot, hope it helps you too!

I'm so happy that you have all these medications to help you in various ways! I also love how this video normalizes needing to take multiple meds, which can be a source of shame or embarrassment for a lot of people. So thank you for making it :) It was interesting to hear about how some of the meds you take were to help with side effects of others, like Ambien to help with the sleep-related side effects of Lamotrigine, or Benztropine to help with the hand tremors from Zyprexa. It sounds like such a difficult balance to manage both your symptoms and the side effects from the meds you take to treat them, and it's great that you've found that. It was also really cool to learn that Zofran kills two birds with one stone by helping with both nausea and OCD... that works out super conveniently! When you said you could pry Zyprexa and NAC out of your cold dead hands, I immediately thought "that's me with testosterone" LOL. I have that same kind of extreme gratitude for testosterone that you described for your meds, because it's done so much good for me mentally as well as physically. It really is amazing what the right meds can do to improve your life. Thanks again for making and sharing this video, I learned a lot!

And as for the shame, there was a movement a while back by someone on the My Favorite Murder podcast who shared what meds they took for depression, and it started a whole movement where people took a pic of their meds (tagging it with #myfavoritemeds lol) and that got ME thinking, “what if I shared mine?” Even though I found out about the trend much later. I used to be ashamed of my own, I mean its a lot of pills, but part of me sharing them is helping ME accept that I too should not be ashamed! This channel goes both ways, because people like you help me too

Was diagnosed as having major depression with GAD for, literally, 30 years. Three weeks ago, at the advice of my therapist who was so attentitve that she was picking up on what could be hypomanic episodes, I saw a new doc. His questions led me to consider entirely different things than I'm used to considering, and it really seemed much more clear: bipolar 2, C-PTSD, and some anxiety stuff. This has completely blown my mind at age 51. I thought I knew why all this happened, but I can so clearly see instances where I was driven, completely unknowing, by this disorder. So, yeah, the whole med treatment is different, and I hate taking handfuls of pills, but maybe if my new treatments work better, I can get more off the anti-depressants.

I opted out of taking medication about 13 years ago. I was Diagnosed with Schizophrenia, then at a later date schizoaffective disorder. I started off with Abilify and a Benzo after about 6 month I stopped taking it.

@@tylerogrady8194 the best way to avoid that is to only take it when you really really need it. For me it’s a last resort, and my doc doesn’t give me enough to take every day, so I couldn’t exactly… become addicted even if I wanted to. Hope this helps!

I take for my schizoaffective disorder zyprexa at 20mg. I am about to start taking metformin for the side effects of the zyprexa causing with weight gain. I’m kinda reluctant to start a new medication though. I agree with you on the zyprexa and “ taking it from my dead fingers !” I thought after 6 years of not being in psychiatric hospital I was cured and this past fall I went off my antipsychotic (zyprexa) medication for over two months and sure enough I ended up in a psychiatric ward. It was real scary but I learned something and that was I need medication. I also realized I have a very serious mental illness and I need to make sure I keep doing what is working. Like I said with medication I was free from hospital for over 6 years. My new strategy for my health is to recognize I need to see my mortality and I can easily go back to a psychotic state. So keep doing what works ! God bless

My diagnosis is bipolar I with elements of schizophrenia, and I also take zyprexa (olanzapine) but gained like 120 pounds in weight over 14 years that I'm on it. However, it completely eliminated paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, mania, depression so I chose to stick with it. I'm really glad it works for you without weight gain :) Best of luck

I hate that zyprexa is so helpful for so many people but causes so much weight gain. I’m glad you’ve found a way to make it work, but my heart breaks for all the people I’ve interacted with that deal with that side effect. Maybe one day there will be a better drug out there that doesnt cause such issues.

I’m not a doctor, but that sounds like the medication. I have read that it can have you gain weight even on an extremely reduced calorie diet. Have you tried any of the glp or similar medications with it? Idk if that would even work. Idk if there are contraindications, but if that medication helped you but was weight +, you have metabolic syndrome and actually need the medications similar to what type 2 diabetics take. So maybe ask 🤷🏻‍♀️

And yes, I definitely have metabolic syndrome unfortunately, probably early stage of diabetes too. But like you Americans say, you can't get something for nothing, that's how I look at my meds. I gain mental stability at the expense of some physical damage to my body, and I learned to live with it. And people around me thankfully accepted me as I am now, whereas when I was manic I definitely exhibited certain amount of anti-social behavior and I'd really prefer not having to go through that again, so yeah, for me it's swallow those 3 pills in the morning and night and simplify life. See if you can switch to Geodon. It treats both scitzophernia and bipolar disorder so you won’t need a mood stabilizer. It is from phizer and very well known and trusted company. I gained 70 lbs on zyprexa, the worst thing ever. I unfortunately got sick and lost over 30 lbs but I am so happy with my weight loss. Food is a major killer and zyprexa slows down your metabolism and that’s why it causes weight gain.

Hi Kit! I also have schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type). I take Lamictal/Lamotragine and used to take Geodon/Ziprasidone but recently switched to Latuda/Lurasidone. You're right! It really did help me have a more functional life after finding the balance of medicine for me! Thank you for creating a channel about schizoaffective experience!

That was really educational. Myself and a person I care for both have schizotypal and BD1 with psychotic features. I love that you’re normalizing that some people live with the more severe mental illness every day, even seemingly normal lives or at least not dangerous or violent. You know it’s notable to me that you take zofran because I just feel like I’m getting “hooked” on otc Dramamine for nausea. I can get a script, I wonder which one is cheaper in the long term though insurance. Okay person A: Pristiq, Lamictal, Propranolol, Pregablin and Xanax, Spravato Person B: Zyprexa, Wellbutrin, Riluzole, Hydroxizine Thanks for sharing so many details of what and why. With person A (me) being a caretaker for person B we make a lot of trips to the psychiatrist and pharmacy.

So, weight gain on antipsychotics is considered a side effect, which means, by definition, not everyone will get it. For me I am one of those people and I consider myself fortunate. I know Lauren from Living Well with Schizophrenia has several videos about weight gain on antipsychotics, so go check out her channel or do a quick search, and that should help you! Sorry I can’t do more, hang in there.

Be careful with Adderall. My sone switched from rittalin to adderall when he was 18 and had a schizophrenic break and he's been f'd up ever since. 3 weeks...broke his brain forever.

Lamictal, seroquel, lexapro, Wellbutrin, bursar, depkote, adderall, lorazepam, Ativan, Valium… (pretty sure that’s the lot) I take morning and night… I also have schizoaffective disorder, severe ocd, agoraphobia/ general anxiety, and ADHD (I also take 4 different supplements)… all my meds are super high doses (like 800mg of seroquel a night) to the point that I start to show intense symptoms if I miss just one dose. Nice to see someone else on a crazy cocktail that works for them…🍸 💊 cheers!

I’ve taken every single one of those except ambien, meds are a struggle right now, because of both paranoia associated with medication and breast-feeding. I’m extremely sensitive to chemicals and currently I’m only on a little bit of Seroquel and a benzodiazepine occasionally. I was just officially diagnosed with schizoaffective, and I’m trying to figure it out. Glad to have all the diagnosis given over the years narrowed down to just that and PTSD. Of course, I turned to KZbin to learn more. 😂 i’ve been on about a total of 40 different medications and most of them haven’t worked for me. I’m always curious if mental illness is really mental illness which is probably my mental illness. Thanks for the video.

"Better living through chemistry." I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD and PTSD. I take Lorazepam during the day, Clonazepam at night if I need to (I often need it), the maximum dose of Duloxetene (an anti-depressant), and two meds to help me sleep (Dioxin and Quetiapine). The funny thing about Ambien is that my wife got prescribed a month's worth and didn't want to take them, so I did. They worked wonderfully to knock me out at the start of the month and didn't work at all by the end of the month. Unfortunately this seems to be a pattern with me and sleep meds. And if I'm worried about something, I'm going to have insomnia no matter what I take. So it goes. Love your videos.

I’m on just Zyprexa, Depakote, Klonapine, and Paxil. We got lucky with my first batch of meds. Plus the Paxil helped with not only my anxiety but also some of my depressive symptoms. It improved my quality of life ❤

Lithium helped me a ton. I had intrusive thoughts, would spend all day thinking about one specific bad thing. When I first started taking it, it felt kinda like my emotions were wrapped in cotton balls. I don't notice it now, but the thoughts are still gone.

I’m glad to hear that someone else is grateful for their medication. I was so happy when I started on Zyprexa and the way it made me feel well. I wanted to send a big thank you card to the makers of it. Lamictal is a godsend also. Ambien was a scary drug for me. I would eat in the middle of the night and find the ice cream containers in the trash the next day. I would write emails to people during the night and not remember what I wrote. I'm on Wellbutrin, Abilify, Vistaril and Haldol as my dailies. I also take a CBD gummy as a supplement, which I've discovered increases the anti-anxiety effect of the vistaril. I'm glad I'm not a walking pharmacy but I do have sympathy for those who are because it becomes more and more difficult to function as well as you do with each additional medicine that's added.

You are diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, right? I was diagnosed 15 years ago. I didn't accept help (meds) until 5 years ago. I still struggle so much. There are fewer voices on meds, but my mood swings are still a huge issue. Can you please help me Guage where I'm at compared to my fellow schizos? 😉 How often do you hear voices? When you do hear them, how long does it last? Days? Weeks? Etc... I feel like maybe I need to take stronger meds. It scares me, though. If I'm not throwing a bipolar fit. I'm numb. The only things I feel are nothing or frustration, heartache, and anger. Damn sorry, I'm rambling on and on. I just need to know what your experience is. I'm bipolar type 1 and I've tried a whole bunch of antipsychotics. - Risperdal: no libido - Abilify: libido but akathisia, which is the inability to stand still, was clearly the worst side effect ever, I couldn't stop walking. - Amisulpride: no libido - and now Zyprexa, and clearly the best for me. food seems so much better on this medication so I have to be careful not to gain too much weight. Also I have the same problem as you with hand tremors. For me it tend to get worse in stressful situations. Pretty annoying

I take fluoxetine and olanzapine (zyprexa) every day and benzodiazepine when needed. I’m diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia but I think I might have bipolar too because even on the zyprexa, I still experience like hypomania from time to time. But I’m satisfied with my meds, except for the weight gain thing. I also take CBD oil 5% few drops a day, it really helps me a lot with my anxiety especially and it sort of grounds me.

It has been so hard for her because she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and the combination between her medications cause her to fall sick all the time. They were going to put me on lithium for bipolar type 1 psychosis but In the end i said no as near every single person in the lithium clinic section and in my support group all had their kidneys wrecked by it long term. So i am on serequel XR at moment and about to be put on Abilify instead of lithium as apparently that is starting to be seen in the UK as an alternative to lithium. i have schizoaffective bipolar type and i take vraylar, ambien, klonopin, adderall, and ingrezza. oh, and cymbalta. i developed tardive dyskinesia which is why i take the ingrezza - which is more common than relating it to parkinson’s so i found that part interesting. TD is a movement disorder caused by antipsychotics.

I’ve been experiencing delusions and hallucinations for four years now. They put me on Latuda and it seems to be helping the bipolar side of things. Great video! I was diagnosed with similar issues and couldn't take Zyprexa and similar other anti psychotics because they give me unmanageable side effects. I'm surprised how well people do with Ambien, it either does nothing or barely works for me. I've tried so many medications at this point, I'm hoping I find some that will make a difference now..

❤thank you for sharing your history my diagnosis is what your been diagnosed with I have had experiences where I've felt like I've had LSD and it's lasted for a month I feel like when I'm well everything's good but then when things events ideas and imaginations theories occur in regards to those around me and actions beyond which is even considered a reality if happening or not. My belief is that sin plays a huge part in my illness and that people cause events to take place to take advantage of my good nature and use my diagnosis against me laughing about it like I am stupid or foolish and I have to prove it so I'm in the situation where I'm thinking people lie and use what you say in conversation as a means to try to mess with your head I'm surrounded by kleptos that take things at random and then either gift things back to me that they have stolen or are blatantly rubbing my nose in the stuff that they have taken by parading it in front me claiming it to be theirs. Now that's fine I'm okay that they may have needed the items but to tell them that it's looking familiar and then to see their smirks is quiet absurd to even think persons closet to me have the Audasity to wait for my reaction which is usually shrugged off and then just makes me believe that I'm not imagining this as this is actually happening my God knows that I'm his and that people do things to hurt others for kicks and pranks But to tell you the truth I have no problem it's them that the problem and if I just ignore it Karma comes to them too I'm on clipixol injection fortnightly and my health care providers are just as slanderous about my character and how I believe in God and that I hear the holy spirits impressions in my spirit and that I have a hard time dealing with addiction which is sin I'm only sharing with you my issues I deal with which is Life and with medication I'm still going to keep the faith. I know jesus is real and he has my hand I'm expecting him

I used to take 14 different meds a day, I tried prozac but I ended up smashing the house up! I have had amitrypteline and beta blockers that I can't remember the name of.. anyway, now take sertraline which is an antidepressant, quetiapine that's an antipsychotic, levothyroxine for an underactive thyroid gland Valproic Acid which is a mood stabiliser. I also take meds for Gastroparesis/haitus hernia and strong pain medication 💊 which is prescription only for scoliosis, sciatica, and I now also have osteoporosis; I have pain all over my body, several old fractures in my spine, awful 😖 😱 headaches, I walk with a wheeled walker as I am unsteady on my feet, have a partly adapted ground floor flat and I am only 55! Still, I know that there are a lot of people out there that are worse off than me. xx

Hi Kit!! Thank you for sharing this info! My LO tried respiradon, abilify and zyprexa before clozapine. Out of the first 3, Zyprexa was the best and got him some relief but it didn't take him out of psychosis even at 24mg. He also got dysphagia. With clozapine, he responded at a low dosage and he handles a constipation as a side effect. He takes docusate sodium in the am (stool softener). Clozapine is highly sedating too but it got better when the dosage is splitted 3x a day, instead of 2x. He got many pounds extra. The doctor pondered clozapine is protective against catatonia and that weights down in her decision. This all happened 9mos ago, he's only 16yo, diagnosed with schizophrenia. Supplements: fish oil 2 capsules, focus (mineral supplement for the brain) 2 capsules. PRN: ATivan There have been bad and good days...but grateful is the best word, we relate with you, we are SO grateful! in Jan, he will work on slowly coming back to a school, and after a short visit, we've been noticing him more symptomatic. Did you experience this as well? How was your transition back to your academic life?

So for me in terms of academia, I never took time off from school. I had professors who postponed tests and assignments for me (I once re scheduled an exam THREE TIMES), but I never took a break even though I should have. But because school was stressful (I was pre-med and wanting to do medical school, so it was a lot of hard science classes) I was always in somewhat of a bipolar mood episode. I found that I would have a cycle in the middle and end of every semester, and it was very difficult. I’m not sure how I graduated college, honestly. But after college when i had my psychotic break in NYC, I realized that I was never going to go back to school until I was really really stable and in remission because school was so stressful for me. I renewed my EMT certification this last year and that tipped off a mini mood episode. So navigating studies with a condition that is largely triggered by stress (I know in my case) is delicate. However, with the right meds and the right therapy and the right support system, it is possible. Accommodations might be needed, but I think you’d be surprised at how much teachers are willing to help. I know I mentioned a lot about college, but it was in college where things got really bad. In high school I had nearly straight As, but SZA took that away from me real quick in college. That’s my story. Hang in there. Life is a case by case basis, and it might take patience and a lot of work, but recovery and a wonderful, beautiful life, is possible. Schizophrenia isn’t a death sentence. Hang in there

i take only 4 meds for my schizo affective disorder. I rake Invega which is it antipsychotic. Depakote it’s a mood stabilizer. Buspar for anxiety. I also take something for tardive dyskinesia. i was in ambien a couple years ago and something like volume. Which is controlled substance.. now I just four meds for my mental illness the antipsychotic is an injectable that I get every 28 days. I also take fish oil and magnesium. And a probiotic.. I have schizoaffective depressive type. Lord knows I’ve been on everything over the last 35 years. Currently I take Invega ( paliperidone) for psychosis, cymbalta (duloxetine) for depression along with pamelor ( nortriptyline) and Wellbutrin ( bupropion) for depression also. For anxiety I take klonopin ( clonazepam) a benzodiazepine. And finally an anticholinergic called Artane (trihexylphenidine) to counter side effects of the antipsychotic Invega. I am not doing as well as you are Kit but I’m ok. I’m hoping for better meds in the future!! I was on ambien for 12 years but it actually stopped working so no longer on that one. I take lamotrigine too and have found it amazing. I’m on both venlafaxine and duloxetine but coming off venlafaxine, I was just at the maximum dose so had to cross taper. Quietapine daily dose and I can take more as needed. Diazepam as needed.

I'm diagnosed with OCD and GAD and I take fluoxetine (prozac) and lorazepam as needed. Prozac also helped me stop binge eating. I agree that lorazepam is extremely helpful with severe anxiety attacks. I take prozac but can I take NAC with prozac?

I take olanzapine, lamictal and hydroxyzine. The lamictal treats the bipolar side of the schizoaffective bipolar type. Olanzapine helps keep the visuals and auditory hallucinations down (schizo side) and hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that treats my anxiety

How do you get to sleep? I usually cannot sleep if I take a mood stabalizer or not. Lithium makes my mood swings worse, and not taking Lithium makes it also worse. It is as if my brain works around the medications for mood

Thank you for doing this. This was EXTREMELY helpful. Can you please drop a recommendation for you provider? We are struggling to find providers competent in this area. Also, have you tried any of the cognitive behavioral treatments from the Hearing Voices Network? I care for a relative with schizoaffective disorder. I've been doing it alone for a quite a while. We've gone from using most of the medications you listed to none at all, though I'm only partially in control of that since the relative is an adult. Yet they are functioning well (enough). I need a provider competent enough fall back if this drug free approach hist a rough spot. Thanks.

Zyprexa causes major weight gain. I gained 70 lbs and luckily lost 30. Geodon treats both scitzophernia and bipolar disorder so you wouldn’t need a mood stabilizer and is from phizer (Covid vaccine) and has absolutely saved my life.

Thank you! ❤ I have a short question: what is the very low dose of Lithium you have? In my situation, some years ago I had to stop Lithium when I was on 400 Mg a day due to kidney problems. Initial advice of my psychiatrist was 800 Mg - 1200 Mg a day for mania. I suddenly got a new psychiatrist and I asked her to prescribe a daily dose of 25 Mg (in my situation). Here in The Netherlands they have way too many patiënts, so atm, I am waiting for an answer for more than 2 months. It is really great to hear a low dose of Lithium helps you! I hope if will help me too. Is 25 Mg of Lithium a day something you consider a low dose? Thank you! ❤

So, I am not a doctor so I can’t advise on pills/meds/treatment etc and even if I could, what’s low for me might not be the same for you. Lithium carbonate is what’s called a narrow index therapeutic drug, meaning that you take enough of it to have a certain level in the blood. You probably get blood tests done, I know I do, and it’s because they’re searching for a certain range. But what I take for a low level will probably not be the same for you. I hope this helps!
