Excellent video. Having it done on my E class now, and apparently there’s now a TSB on the subframes and they’ve extended the warranties on them for 20yrs. I read there was a class action about it. They said it’ll take two weeks to get the parts and replace it, but man, when braking it felt exactly as you said, it’s like the back end is swinging out. 👍

I had mine done at an independent shop. Was able to take the pictures and receipts to a dealer and was reimbursed for the work that was performed.

This is a well known problem on the W204 and a few other Mercedes models. I had the rear subframe on my own W204 replaced under warranty. Being a UK car it is covered by the European 30 year corrosion warranty. As others have said, the corrosion warranty in the US has recently been extended to 20 years. My right rear ABS ring delaminated after the rear subframe replacement so I had to fix it myself.

I’m dealing with the same exact problem in New York. My car only has 124k miles and I’m really contemplating junk the car. I cannot believe that is not a recall in United States for this problem. I’m UK, Mercedes is replacing subframes at not cost to the owner but here in America there is not protection for consumers.

It is now - the warranty was just extended to 20 years/unlimited miles. Go to recall mercedes benz and get the details. You should have been notified by mail. I received mine the mail today. The work has to be done at an authorized mercedes benz dealership. They are also reimbursing those that paid for the correction before the extension.

Mercedes Benz just extended the warranty on these to 20 years. I received my notice today. They did so after a class action lawsuit. It should cost the customer nothing to have this fixed.

I've got the exact vehicle with the exact problem. Do you recommend replacing the rear subframe or junking the vehicle? Im in SE Michigan...so similar climate. 150k miles, excellent condition other than the rear subframe rot!

Get a replacement. They aren’t that much from the dealer.

FYI it will be under warranty now. There was a class action lawsuit and they now have to replace all rear subframes that have rust, free of charge.

Just had mine done in the UK on a w204 for zero cost. Contact dealer and ask for an inspection

well known problem with the subframe for the model years between 2006 and 2014 for the glk E w212 Slk r171 r172 c klasse w204 and some other models of the period
