Embarking on 1st XK ownership in a couple of weeks, loving your vids. You’re very straightforward, logical and level headed which is perfect. Learning lots on common issues and tips, super content.

Really helpful thank you! I’m about to do some servicing on my son’s XK so this was really helpful. I’m more used to working on my Range Rover so these sports cars are a very different beast! Loved your methodical approach and the care to took to pick out the jacking locations with the camera.

@@life_on_cars I will be, have to do a bit of prep first… out of interest were the exhaust clamps welded/attached to the inlet pipes? I’ve bought new clamps but the old ones seems to be spot welded on. 🤔
@life_on_cars
@life_on_cars 8 ай бұрын
Yes they are spot welded. You might need to cut / Drill off

@@life_on_cars Wow. Thanks for the quick reply. It would be nice to use the expensive new clamps that I bought from Jaguar rather than the rusted but not too bad ones. Thanks again for the really useful content although my XK bills have gone up a lot this year. 😀 (2006 XK in dark grey 45K)

Lovely car, mate. Got my first jaguar as well in the last year and I'm moving forward learning a few things. Ramps got me through the oil change and next I'm looking for a jack and stands. Much appreciate your expertise.

Super helpful video this. It might seem obvious to some, but knowing how to be confident you’re safe and not damage your car is absolute necessity. A tip I was told yrs ago was also leave the trolley jack in place (not taking any load) as well as axle stands as an extra precaution. Not sure if that is a good practice or discouraged today.

Hi Paul! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you very much for your KZbin videos. I've had my XK (model 2008) since February. I have never seen more understandable videos than yours. Everything is explained calmly, understandably and sympathetically. Please keep it up! And I can even understand almost everything when you speak 😉☺️. Hope you get to the interior at some point. For example, I would like to know how to carefully remove the entire area under the center armrest. There are hundreds of videos for my BMW E39, but not a single one for my Jaaaaag. I've only had problems with my original Jaguar ACM so far. But you don't have that (I think). Oh, btw ... many would certainly be interested in how to disassemble and assemble the bumper covers step by step, front and rear. I don't trust myself yet. Greetings from Kassel / Germany, Joachim

Very good advice Paul. I will have to look for similar jacking points on the X100. Reason being I'm replacing the front brake discs. Wish me luck that I can remove the old ones.

Great video and just in time as I’m about to paint my break calipers. Also enjoyed the battery maintainer video. When I use my battery maintainer I connect it to the hot terminal and ground located in the left corner of the boot, behind the plastic grill piece near the tail light. I would think it’s the same on British or American Jags. 4:26

The problem i have with this method of raising the car is that it is an aluminum frame car that is glued and riveted. By raising one corner at a time you are putting a lot of stress on those joints. I would suggest to use a second jack and bring two corners up at the same time especially the front where you have the weight of the engine. Also i always use wheel chocks when raising a car up.

Very helpful, thank you, I was wondering what was the best way and now I have found out. Living just outside Barcelona, we don't have the same problems as you have in the UK with corrosion. I have a very low mileage 2007 XKR, I am the second owner and it is totally original. I have taken some photos which I can send you to show you the position of the protection for the brake pipes. Send me your e-mail and I will send them to you.

I'm enjoying the videos but I'm not sure where this taboo on jacking up cars under any suspension components originates from. The force transmitted up through the lower wishbone / ball joint / king pin / strut / control arm (depending upon suspension design) when a wheel hits a pothole are several orders of magnitude greater that the force exerted by 1/4 of the vehicle weight. The force exerted by jacking is also in the same plane as the road-induced forces i.e. in compression through the suspension components rather than tension. Of course, jacking up under components such as anti-roll bars / panhard rods etc would lead to disaster but placing the jack head under or very close to the lower ball joint is as safe as houses .... and it has the big advantage the the car body does not have to be lifted as far because the suspension is not being extended and when working on some components you do not want fully extended suspension. Richard

That's true Richard, however, some suspension arms are easily damaged if the jack isn't quite under the ball joint.
