Today I'll show you an inside look of my Minecraft modlist for 1.20.1 which is what I use for my videos. For this part, it details most of the mods that are geared towards gameplay, utility and performance.

Here's the first main component to my mod setup! Apologies if you've already seen most of these before, I usually try to refrain from repeating the same mods but some are quite important to use for the second primary component - the visuals. That's where all the fun stuff happens! Hopefully next week or the week after, depending on how long it is :)

Don't use Rubidium! instead, use Embeddium on Fabric or Forge. It's an overall better version of Sodium, with Indium included and fast translucent face sorting. It offers better performance and compatibility with mods like Modern Fix. Rubidium is outdated, and Sodium is not designed for mod compatibility.

Yees, I'm aware of that, this was just what I've used in my previous videos, hence why Rubidium is included. It will be swapped out once I get to updating it! Good to know about the other insights regarding Sodium and Embeddium though

You dont need a mod for dark loading screen, just go to accesibility and turn monochromatic logo on

Any reason for using Rubidium instead of Embeddium? My understanding was the latter is just superior in terms of compat with other mods, which is pretty important for a performance mod?

@etherealg3940 I've used Rubidium cause it's been in my setup for the last few videos over the past several months. I don't make adjustments to my mod setup too often (although it's close to needing an update) unless I either change mod loaders or move to a new version. I'm aware about Embeddium, it's just a matter of going in and changing it.

Real shit, I was wondering what's your opinion on forge? I have been jumping in and out of modding since 1.7.10 and I recently tinkered with fabric although the performance is nice I find the lack of variety quite boring. Is NeoForge worth a try?

Almost if not all Forge devs are working on Neo leaving Lex behind. Neo is just better forge, so yes, when playing on newer version you should use it instead of Forge

@wault6027 I've not actually had much time digging into NeoForge fully myself, but from what others are mentioning, it's worth a shot to use for versions above 1.20.1. From what I recall and like what V972 said, many of the current Forge mods will transition to NeoForge (some staying with Forge too) as well. Fabric does have its own assortment of mod variety, but yes, it's generally the mod loader that has more optimisation mods. At the end of the day, it just comes down to whether you want a better optimised game with more performance or have more variety in your modded world. I'll keep making more of those cinematic edits in my vids too! :)

@@CrittersModMenagerie a lot of optimization mods have Forge ports (hell, you even listed some of them) so you don't have to choose "between fps and variety". The thing is, Fabric's lightweightness only matters on tiny to small, almost vanilla packs. Because when mods count goes over 50-100 (depending on mods obv), the returns diminish greatly and the cost of initial lightweightness - bearboneness - bears its ugly head. [Neo]Forge is "heavier" because it's more involved and interconnected API, so on larger scale it fares far better in terms of stability and such. But people who only install sodium and Irys for mAh ShAdErS doot the trumpet that "Forge is slow af and also killed their dog".

How come some mods are STILL for 1.20.1?

Forge is just bad on new versions. Since version 1.20.2, NeoForge has changed mappings and other aspects, making it harder to port to. Additionally, Mojang has broken many things in versions 1.20.4 and 1.20.6. Iris does not exist for version 1.20.4, which may be why Fabric players still use 1.20.1. The new features in 1.20.4 are not significant enough for modders to justify porting their mods to it.
