I have the exact same oppinion on the drum machine pads , for a long time I have forced myself into "wanting to like" using drum machine pads only cause I thought it's cool and that's how it's supposed to be... I'd like to encourage everybody to make yourself free from any limitations, when it comes to being creative there are no limits , always do what FEELS BEST for your personal experience of your artistic journey.

100% true. Earlier I thought that drum pads are perfect, but now I realized how important velocity is. My drum loops sound much better with different velocity for the snares, and a keyboard can control that velocity much better. When using Koala without controller (or Pocket Operator), upload the same drums with different velocities, and you're good to go.

I've tested my controllers with my Android tablet (USB MIDI mode, activated at developer settings). Results: - Akai LPK25 MK2 (no external power supply): working - old 49 key Roland keyboard (with external power supply): working - 16 pad controller (with external power supply): not working So it seems like Android has trouble with pad controllers.

Maybe the keyboard is not sending standard cc message? I remember using APC key 25 with my Android phone, it worked back then.

@@playpm The pad controller is not detected at all. I have a MIDI monitor as an app, but no input.

PS: It's a Synido TempoPAD. iOS users seem to have no problems with it.

MIDI has 1.0 and 2.0 standards, and ATM only 1.0 is supported by Android. The Synido pads are MIDI class compliant, so they work without special driver on my Linux PC. I guess Synido uses MIDI 2.0, which is supported by Linux, but not by Android. Maybe that explains why some controllers don't work on Android.

Thank you for these videos, I'm watching them. In my case, in order to perform live and blend this with my regular drum playing I see that my problem is latency. In reaper, I can only get a minimum of around 4 to 11 ms but that still feels as too much.

The only midi controller i have (i dont count the Roland Octapad, thats part of my drum kit) is the Arturia Beatstep. It's really nice. Sometimes I think about getting a keyboard, but idk if I really need one at all.

Keyboard is a good basic option especially for beginners but the velocity sensitivity is usually not uniform across the keybed in small inexpensive key controllers.
@playpm7 ай бұрын
My preference for drum samples is triggering them mostly at mid/high velocity, yet maintain the variation at this range, and I found keypads always suit my needs better than pads, no matter if it's a 10 year old model or newer model from these days.

Thanks for this video series and all of your great “GAS therapy” videos! I was wondering, have you considered buying a cajon drum? They don’t take up much room, they allow for a huge flexibility of sound expression, and…can also serve as a chair!
@playpm7 ай бұрын
Lol I do have a cajon pack within my Monster drum plugin, which is free 😄

Michael I have been a long time follower of your content and it is always inspiring. I have a question 🤔 I have become a collector of house plants and am curious to the names of the plants on your window sill. Thank you Sir 🙏
@playpm7 ай бұрын
Appreciated! I searched it and I think its English name is Rubber fig or Indian Rubberplant, the previous one is Schefflera actinophylla or umbrella tree.
@Hutch82UK7 ай бұрын
@@playpm Aaah I thought it might have been an Umbrella Tree, added to my covet list. Thank you for the playpm customer service, impeccable as usual, cheaper and better in my opinion 🙏✌

Nice ! What keyboard is it?

It's a really really old model, don't get attached on gears, any keyboard will work just fine.

Akai LPK25 MK1. MK2 is the current model, which I have. It's simple and sturdy.

How are you making the variation for the snare and hi hat? Sample start time? Pitch? Volume? All three?
@playpm7 ай бұрын
It depends, but I only used start point and volume this time, will do another detailed video later.

Hello. I have been watching you for a while now and i think you could answer my question becouse i did not found any answer on internet. Can i use koala sampler with multiple midi devices? like korg nanopad for drums, nanokontrol for effects and something like this at the same time? was thinking about buying nanopad and nanokeys with nanokontrol to use with koala but not sure it will work at the same time
@charlesv4 ай бұрын
Koala can only access one midi device at a time. However, you could have multiple midi devices going through a midi merge, with each on different channels.

Which android phone are you using atm? It works ok with koala? tell me about performance please
@playpm7 ай бұрын
Currently it's Redmi 13C, good for koala, but super slow for daily usage, but I don't care, it can expand storage with tf card and got a 3.5mm jack, also LCD screen with no pwm flickering issue.

I wish it was in Android. How can we get 100 free samples? Tracklib requires a paid membership.
@playpm7 ай бұрын
It's a Tracklib free trial, you won't get charged immediately, but you will get the credits to choose your samples to download. And it should already support android browser to login and explore.
@nullbyt7 ай бұрын
Go outside and record something anything. And then learn to manipulate that sound to create the samples you want. stop paying for samples

Maybe if you called it a minimal setup for fun finger drumming it might be a good idea. I am after maximum fun, not minimum fun myself!
