Very good perspective. One thing I do every couple of years is take a somewhat of an expensive trip with the family such as a cruise 🚢 or explore another country like Jamaica, or maybe a couple less expensive trips such as taking my daughter to DisneyLand or Rocky Point. I use PTO at work to relax and disconnect from work. Thankfully I have a job that I find interesting and rewarding, yet still put money away in my 401k and IRA. I’m 39 and on track to quit at 55 if I wanted to. Who knows, if I’m still there and work is still interesting Lol I will continue to work and use my PTO to take more vacations. 😊 If my job becomes unbearable or toxic at 55, I’ll simply retire at that point!!

I often think of my Mum's reluctance to get a mobile phone. She never did. How she refused to use an ATM to withdraw money. She never did. Instead, wanting to go inside the bank with her passbook where she inevitably had a nice chat with the teller, lol. I often think slow living is just how people's lives were, how they just lived their life, how they use to be. How I remember my childhood to be. It was refreshing to see this on a recent trip to Indonesia. I want more balance. Ure video resonated ty. ❤✌️

Instead of using sugar and honey, If you want sweetness without raising your blood sugar, you can use Monk Fruit sweetener. 0 sugar and it’s natural. The sweet flavor comes from antioxidants, instead of glucose (or chemicals like artificial sweeteners)

So true ❤ I feel we are turning into machines instead of being humans, we certainly need to go back to the basics and appreciate how easy it is to be happy and content. Everyone is trying to hustle and being faster meanwhile I’m trying to be slower ✨hopefully more people can understand this, earth will be such a better place

I relate a lot with this video, Sophie. I feel like humans are becoming robots, and we need to connect with each other, to be in nature, to look each other in the eyes. Thank you for the tips, it is a beautiful video, as usual ❤ Love and peace to you ✨️

We have soul and body. Body get fed and rested. But what about the soul? The soul needs rourishment. Thats where disconnection comes from. By remembering its creator. Verily does heart find peace in remembering Allah.

The thing is that it's "too much". We don't need so many things and gadgets. We're beyond enough now... The world is becoming more and more robotic. I hope it changes soon. We're still so unbalanced and living virtually. Well, I'm more and more getting in balance and liking the silence 🙂 Thank you ❤

I feel so disconnected lately. I feel like my day should always be productive and that when it’s not I feel so bad and sorry! I can’t focus at all and sit still.. so I am working on myself now! Your videos makes me feel that I’m not alone! People out there feels the same like me! And it makes me feel comforted! This life is so different from what I grew up in. In my country in Philippines before we just care about what surround us. I didn’t even have any idea what the other worlds look like! Now with Soc med it’s all in your face! And sometimes you feel like you’re way left behind! I just want to be grounded again! Your video reminds me that real life still exist!

I'm on a slow-ish minimalism journey for about 7 years. I don't have a donation box per se. I have boxes of things I sell and things I'd be happy to give friends and family as presents instead. The reason it's a slow journey is mainly because I'm trying to use up the things I have and paid money for. Unless it's something that affects me or it's expired, I won't throw it away for the sake of space. The space has been acquired with time. There's a huge noticeable difference with my home now vs 7 years ago so I know I'm on the right path! <3

just a reminder that disabled people are born every day and financial struggle keeps many people so busy they don't have time for self care, community, fresh foods <3. I wish for all good things for everyone, but lets not act like it's available to all people.

I’ve been feeling all of this hard. I don’t care for society. It’s to fast, rushed, loud, angry, and disconnected for sure. As someone who was a kid in the 70’s, and a teen in the 80’s… I find the last 10 years, especially the last 4, just too much. They are building on every free space, plowing through the hills around here in California. Nature and animals are everything to me. They just be. They aren’t rushing.

Just the other day, there was an overwhelming desire to "unplug/disconnect" again. So, I did just that (deactivating) to take a self-imposed break. Three accounts I never did reactivate were my now gone Twitter account, Instagram, and Facebook (back in 2018). Best decision since I don't miss the amount of time they wasted. Only this KZbin/Google account has remained active throughout so that I can leave occasional comments like this.

Sophie; I applaud your focus in your videos. It is great that you can run a lifestyle channel dedicated to slow living and minimalism. What I don't see is the integration and the necessity of working for a living, commuting, paying all of the bills, attending to health issues, repairing the auto, house, and yard maintenance. You are afforded the pleasure, time, leisure, and income to travel internationally. You failed to mention anything about children, your husband, or obligations to other family members. To me and everyone I know, your lifestyle is a fantasy - a pipe dream. I don't want "to rain on your parade" but a little reality of the complexities of your life and your secret to eliminate the difficulties, would help humanize your lifestyle channel.

A very challenging part of this question is that public policy is designed to keep basic life security just out of reach for most people, for the first reason you mentioned. It's no accident that somehow we've "progressed" so much, yet so many people still live precariously. Central bank mandate is to (1) keep inflation near 2%, and (2) maximize employment. I.e., life should get more expensive at a compound rate of 2% per year, forever, and people having free time to not be 'maximally employed' isn't acceptable (according to central banks). It's interesting to note that a fruit orchard or garden does not lose its value (productivity) at a rate corresponding to 2% each year. The same amount of work (over the long term, averaging over annual variability) has historically produced the same amount of food, at least when soil is properly managed. A small % of people can live like this, unnoticed, but if the population were significant, the current economic models would take action to undo it. I think at its core, realizing this vision for humanity would require a complete re-think of economics, how we define value, how we organize ourselves as a society, and the power dynamics between organized entities (governments, corporations) and common individuals.
