Keep a spare $500 available for whatever parts will break. Learn soldiering and video editing. Part of the pain of FPV. Joshua Bardwell for any tutorial in Betaflight. Good luck to all new pilots. Maybe start smaller drone like a 3.5" 4s for a first drone. Cheaper to fix.

How long should I fly in the sim before flying irl?
@shadowofchaos8932 Жыл бұрын
@Yartin 10 hours. When you have decent control of the throttle to hover in one spot. Then start flying. Stick time is more important than sim hours. Getting used to the fear and excitement of flying.
@paulr3556 Жыл бұрын
Take off further away from your face. That's number one, and other people of course. Sometimes a motor or ESC spazz-out could cause 1x motor to hit full throttle, even with "no arming" , it can happen. Please be careful. Other than that enjoy. Also learn lipo storage etc, they are explosive sometimes. Check temp whilst charging. Research lipo charging vids etc. Ammo boxes make great battery boxes. Also watch your flying around public roads, any accident could be blamed on you for distraction. Otherwise cut sick, rip balls, and happy flying. Been flying and building for few years myself. The battery short if not planned is learning the hardway, don't learn the hardway with props, take them off for any setting up on computer where you will plug in battery. Again to be on the safe side. Go down in size or get a whoop with prop guards if you plan to fly near people n bounce off them with no harm. The 5inch will hurt. Not to mention the fly safe means less crashes, less crashes means less repairs, less $$$ and less time waiting for parts from China.haha.

I've been flying FPV for about 1 year and a half. I'm no pro, but I've certainly picked up some tips along the way that I'd be happy to share! 1) buy TONS of propellers. 2) NEVER fly over people. 3) ALWAYS take your propellers off before connecting to betaflight(if a battery is plugged in). 4) More time practicing in the simulator is less money spent on broken drones. 5) Keep your batteries in a fireproof lipo-bag. 6) Never leave charging lipos unattended, even for 1 minute. 7) Install a beeper on your drone to make the drone way easier to find when you lose it. 8) Set your DVR on your goggles to record automatically. It will also help you find your lost drones, and it will save you when your GoPro inevitably stops recording for no apparent reason. 9) A fishing pole with a lead weight tied to the end of the line works great for getting drones unstuck from trees. 10) Visit live streams of popular FPV pilots. They answer your questions real time, and it can be a life saver. 11) Conformal coat all of your electrical components, and you can fly your drone in the rain or snow from inside your car. 12) Use ELRS or TBS Crossfire for your radio link. There are both very affordable and have insanely long range and deep penetration. 13) Use solder with a 60/40 lead to tin ratio for easy and perfect solder joints. 14) Bring like 3 drones with you when you go flying, because chances are, you will destroy at least one of them. 15) Install MR30 connectors onto your motor wires for easy, solderless motor swaps in the field. 16) Constantly fly in new places to challenge reaction time and memorization. 17) Experiment with different types of propellers. They all have very different flight characteristics, and you might be using propellers that you don't even know you don't like. 18) Try to run ESCs that are at least 20% above your required amperage for your motors/battery. 19) If you're wanting to fly far, install a GPS and program the drone to return to where it took off from if the signal gets too weak. 20) Enjoy yourself!

There is no way I would have been flying around people with a 5 inch nazgul on my first flight. Hell I've got like 30 flights now and I still wouldn't do it. I know people in the comments been beating you up about safety but you should definitely take it a bit more seriously. Drone will literally wreck someone, seems like you should have got a cinewhoop =D
@kurtzFPV Жыл бұрын
You are progressing very quickly. That sim time sure paid off. If I can can just give one suggestion. Don't take off so close to yourself and your buddy. A reversed prop or a freaked out ESC could send a blender into one of your faces. Those props might not break a bone, but they can cut through most skin until they hit bone. Very nicely put together.

That's a great tip which is so easily over looked. Here I wanted to get the drone in the shot, but honestly it's not even worth the risk. You set an extremely bad example for the FPV community. Never, ever fly in an area where there are active sporting events happening. @jeremychurch5683 Жыл бұрын
I was coming here to say the same thing, you should never fly your drone for the first time around people in a park let alone an FPV drone that you barely have control of, super bad move.

tbf you got a shitty analog clip there analog can look pretty good and its aspecially good for flying fast because you have like 4ms latency instead of the 20-30ms you get on a digital system (except hdzero) so its the opposite of what you are saying there is a reason why racer didnt fly digital till hdzero came out
@ufopilotFPV Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Advantages of analogue: cheap parts and not proprietary, all parts work together from all manufacturers, and low fixed latency is a big deal. I'm still flying analogue after 7+ years and no plans to change.

Um, yeah.. so can't say I'm a fan of this video there. You have some great points and tips on FPV, which are all good. BUT. Your flying shots, especially at the Colorado Street bridge there on highway134 (Pasadena?) were ...hmm, how to say this, ... Crazy stupid, kinda fits. Least you're not in RAS, but still.... Like you said, it's not if you gonna crash but when. With admittedly less than 5 hours of PIC with the FPV you are flying over and following traffic on the freeway, through trees where there are people walking ... no words dude. You are a catastrophe waiting to happen, I can't believe you posted this on YT... hope one of your 764 views ain't the FAA.
@ArtYari_ Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Admitted you are correct about the flying being crazy / risky, especially compared to my flight time. As far as FAA and the rules (please correct me if I'm wrong), I didn't actual break any rules. If I recall correctly from when I was studying for the 107, it is fine to fly over cars when you are crossing over to another area - I was not stopped over any cars. There's also nothing in the 107 material that says you can't fly behind cars. Although, I can see how it might be frowned upon to do so. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong. In regards to the people - I didn't fly directly over them and I flew away once I noticed them. They were not walking where I was flying through the trees. I do appreciate your comment because it does raise some great points and these are things we should all be aware of and remember when flying.

It’s not about pushing the limits to see what you can get away with, optically your video just looks bad, it looks like you’re a reckless pilot
@jeremychurch5683 Жыл бұрын
And if you want to get technical about it, you didn’t have full control of your drone when your camera was pointing straight up, you should’ve made sure you had complete control over your drone before flying it around people, just a dangerous move, why not practice your first flight with nobody around, so much safer and more respectful that way. i’m really not trying to be a jerk here, it’s just when I see the video of where you were first practicing I totally see why drones are getting a bad name, yes, some of the things you’ve done were perfectly legal, but it doesn’t mean it’s not totally annoying and invasive for others, be pragmatic

Thanks! I have studied the FAA rule about sUAV but I don't recall seeing anything about following cars specifically (please show me know if i'm wrong though because my memory is horrible). PLEASE do not fly over cars that are on a public roadway especially a freeway like that! And especially with how new you are to flying. All it takes is one failsafe or one mistake that spooks the driver and you are causing a car to crash at 65mph and risking peoples lives. I like that you are coming into our hobby, BUT this hobby takes a lot of responsibility and preservation of our hobby is your duty as a newer pilot. This kind of stuff gives me massive anxiety because the FAA already wants to shut us down! I highly suggest you edit this video and cut out the clips where you are clearly in violation of FAA rules and guidelines before they send you an email. It happens all the time. And go ahead and add that to your "tips for newer pilots lol"
