I think what I loved most about this ending scene was that during skip/catch up of everyone, you don’t actually fully see Ji-an. It’s always her back. It’s not until she finally meets Dong-hoon again do we get to see her face, but from his perspective. Almost as if the audience wasn’t really worthy to see her first again after the changes they’ve went through, but that Dong-hoon deserves to see her first the most. Out of everyone that could meet her again, it should be Dong-hoon. Especially because literally almost every moment until this scene, her face was the same harden, distant and cold expression. But now? Ji-an has changed and moved on from parts of her life and her face is almost new. Dong-hoon even days himself “I barely recognized you” emphasizing how much she has changed. Ji-an is peaceful after so long and it’s not the audience who gets to see her like that, but Dong-hoon. After all they’ve been through, it what they both deserve. Ji-an would be able to meet Dong-hoon on the streets again and greet happily, after finding comfort.

What made my cry when they saw each other again is the first time in the whole series Dong-hoon has a genuine smile across his face. Yeah he smile a a bit but there was mostly sadness. Here you can the happiness in his face when he sees Ji-an. And the thought of what they went through and endured to get to this point had me balling my eyes out.

You know when he brought her back to that bar they all visit (jheung hui's) I guess in the second last episode you could see he was smiling more. He didn't even smile much when they were celebrating his promotion with his wife there but later when Ji ian was there with his friends ( including yura and the owner woman of the bar) you could see even simple sentences made him smile. This was a stark contrast to his personality in the drama because like you said he didn't smile much at all but with Ji ian there with his 'family' I guess he was able to feel relieved and happy. like everyone he could truly rely on were there

The fact that he initiated the handshake hehehe I love how the ending shows much they've healed, matured and tried to be happy on their own. I think he loved her more than he realised himself and this time away from her probably showed him just how much. He isn't the type to cry so when he does, you know it's serious. These little details they put in the drama is crazy. That first episode was so uncomfortable because I could feel the intensity and that's so crazy. 10/10 my most emotionally gripping drama to date and I hope people love it and see how much relationships are important.

Even if he committed a crime/bring shame, he didn't deserve to take his own life. Korean law, the media and toxic people cost this mister's life. RIP Lee Sun Kyun. This ending is a masterpiece and very poetic. The cinematography on this show is top notch. It started very dark(lighting wise) which describes the emotional state of the leads. The bright sun, flowers, spring and even IU’s clothing on the ending radiates a new beginning, happiness, contentment and peace. What a show!

You should try Something in the Rain. It is up there in terms of emotional. Perhaps even more than My Mister but in a different way because it is about a couple. It stars Son Ye-Jin. I highly recommend it.

@@consumersgasman8376 if you mean in SITR then I believe you misunderstood Jin-a the female lead. First she was 35 not 36. And they didn't have feelings for each other the 3 yrs prior to episode 1. They were more like siblings prior to ep 1. And Korean society is very conservative where you are expected to live at home til married and/or overall be obedient to your parents. That being said Jin-a did go against her parents , her mother in particular, by not staying with her ex and dating a younger guy (he's only 4 or 5 yrs younger) with a family background that is frowned on. She also did move out when her mother kicked her out prior to Jin-a and Jun Hui breaking up. At first Jin-a was shocked but then realized it is a good thing because it gave her the opportunity to be independent and be with Jun Hui. But he messed that up by making the decision that they should move to the USA to run away from their problems without even consulting her before telling his job he would go. She wanted to stay in Korea, be an independent woman who does not depend on others and face their problems together. She was being mature about it while he showed his youthful immaturity with his initial decision and when she didnt conform by going to the USA he went anyways and left her behind. Something he promised he would never do. Breaking contact with her also showed his immaturity and because of his pride. Of course he realized all this in ep 16 the final episode and did what he had to so he could get her back by admitting his mistake and ask for forgiveness.

I'm glad the director/writer(s) decided to include this final reunion scene. While it appears to be vague enough that the encounter could just be a happy coincidence, I suspect it to be the start of a slow romance. A romance that takes time to grow, but that which does become intimate after a while. Whether it lasts is another story, but I'd wager they'd always remain close even if they separated. The romance clues in this scene include Park Dong Hoon initiating skinship through a long (LONG) handshake, Jian countering with a dinner together, and the final look back as they part. The production team could not apparently do an overt romance due to potential backlash, so they gave us this subtle but implied scene instead. I'm also doubly happy that this drama had a happy ending at all - I was suspecting it to go full-on noir with one of them dying. Especially after Jian got hit by a car in a previous episode.

Basically, the production team got negative feedback from viewers when it was announced that they would become a couple onscreen. So they changed it to what we see in this scene instead - vague but still affirming. And I would conclude that they do eventually become a couple because this scene is very telling. The logistical details like his current wife and stuff, would have to be sorted by our own imaginations. The show is over after all. Ultimately, we should just be happy that the director/writer(s) intended for them to be together eventually.

Particularly for Park Dong Hoon, since Jian already saw him as a man, and not a 'father-figure' like some would like to infer. Despite this drama's critical and commercial success, I highly doubt to the possibility of a sequel. I think it's best that it ended the way it did. The age difference would be too high a wall to overcome for some viewers.

In the final scene when they go outside, it seems ji-an is nervous or uncertain about where they stand with each other. You can see this when Dong-hoon suggests she visits hos office and old colleagues. Is a hint that he wants to see her again, a test to she if she wants to see him or just a polite invite. The her friends shout they are leaving, ji-an looks back to Dong-hoon, there is a pause. Just as she starts to move backwards, he asks to shake her hand. As soon as they shake and Dong-hoon thanks her, the uncertainty disappears from her face. Like she understood what he didn't want to let her go. Now it's her turn to confirm her feelings, she asks him to dinner. She also calls him 'mister'. In an earlier episode, Dong-hoon got upset that she called him my mister due to the implication on their relationship. However in this final scene a massive smile appears on this face. Without saying it out loud, ji-an has shown she still loves him and wants him to be her mister. Whilst Dong-hoon has signaled he is ready to accept her love now that they have healed themselves.

They both were really in love with each other. She stated multiple times in the drama that she liked him, that she would do anything for him. Even others noticed how desperately they were in love with each other through their actions. He was a man of principles so he kept on calling her kid and things like that but you just have to see how far he would go for her. He was capable of letting anything go and be a pushover but if Ji an was involved he would lose it. He would keep staring at her in the office all the time ( nobody does that in a platonic love ). He hit people for her, he got angry when she took the slippers away, hated it when she ignored him and always thought later about what she said to him even when she wasn't there. He tolerated his cheating wife but Ji an was his kryptonite.

20210314 Needless to say everything about this drama was superb actors directors storyline. Is it just me or is it really that Lee Sun Gyun always looks like he is walking on the catwalk and has the posture of a model. So nice to watch himin here from seeing him in Coffee Prince, Parasite. Am a new fan for sure. IU is an intense actress. The scene where she was saying her goodbye to her grandma really moved me and ugly crying. There’s also the beautiful neighborhood and strong family love we all should emulate to make this world a better place.

I saw from other comment that says. The separation...it was necessary they need space..Donghoons life was a mess..he's not in a situation to accept JA loves..he's family,he's marriage,he's work..He needs to heal himself so he will grow and as well as Jian.. The welcoming .the new beginning for both of them...after the storm here comes the new chapter of their life The fulfilment--both did a good job fighting their own battle..and now to complete the missing piece...is to have each other...they can only be truly happy,now that they each other.. I love their love story so much...it's so different from others.from your boring dull life then an incident brought them together...Donghoons must have forgotten what love feels like until he meets Jian (I too was in that situation that's why I understand him)that love was so strong that it move mountain..its their love that save them some say it's friendship or whatever label..would you get motivated to change for the better?does it really happen in real life?unless if we talk about love..people can do anything in the name of love right?.I hope we can all find a love like that in our lifetime.

The time between 1:11 and 1:20. No words. Simply silence. He's smiling at her and for a tiny fraction opens his eyes a bit wider (may be to take her in completely) and still no words. When she raises her head,she sees him smiling and smiles back. Now his smile becomes a bit (a teeny tiny bit) bigger. I think this 9 seconds impacts more than all the episodes running around 20 hours. Something happens in their hearts. And something happens in ours too. Difficult to pinpoint what that is. Why was this silence even inserted there. And finally even after watching this series and episodes, after reading comments, after replaying these scenes countless times in your mind how do you precisely describe how this series made you feel? If you ask me, I too can give only the same silence as the answer because I know anything I say will not do justice to how I feel.
