Vin Scully announces your name at a baseball game and calls your first hit. Damn dude that's an honor. Vin Scully proceeds to roast you for the rest of the game about a pop up you had no business catching. Still an honor.

I think it's hillarious that Vin basically took out his frustrations on Antonelli for this game. Dude has watched more baseball than you, me and Antonelli combined. Makes it even funnier to me that he's roasting the rookie for what everyone knows was a hit.

Not the best outings for Maddux or Scully in their long careers. Maddux gives up a base hit on a rookie's first at bat, later slides very haphazardly into 2nd base nearly taking him out. Scully with the overly harsh description of the play off that blooper.

You have to understand something. The Dodgers infield during the 1980's set the record for errors, they were absolutely horrible, and Vin Scully had to go through all of that with the Dodgers. it all started in 1983 when Steve Sax had a phobia, that he had to throw a normal hit grounder in to the 25th row behind 1st Base. He sent 40 something into the stands, so i am guessing he's still getting over the shell shock of that time, even though it was 20 some years earlier.

That quiet approach was more common just a few years ago. Nomar did the same in this video, and probably a few more guys in this game that this video did not show. The modern leg kick and all the movement is at least part of the reason why guys strike out so much in today's game as compared to year's past.
@ianbent0n
@ianbent0n 5 жыл бұрын
@@unclestinky6388 Yeah I remember when a very slight step was en vogue, and being taught that when I was about 14 (~2001)...the preference for a tepid groundout over a strikeout was real and "contact hitters" were revered for some reason. My dad was obsessed with Tony Gwynn's book. I wish we'd been taught to be selective, walk more, and develop a riskier, more powerful swing, especially those players with natural eye and talent for making contact. I guess it's striking to watch Matt because nobody really does this anymore in the majors. Matt uncoils quick as fuck on that single, but it still looks like he was sacrificing a ton of power potential. Could be totally wrong!

That was a lot of fun to watch. I still remember when you made it to the big leagues. I used to work for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and was there when you were in Lake Elsinore. I saw you play a lot in the Cal League. I would always root for guys coming out of that league and still do to this day. Also, I was a huge Wally Joyner fan growing up, so that’s pretty awesome. 👍🏼

If anyone ever talks crap about you, you can just say “Yeah well..... At least I have a base hit against Braves legend Greg Maddox.” 😂
