I had the exact same problem with my Dapol HST set on points. So did the same, isolating joiners on the points and it now works a treat.

That's interesting you had the same issue. I think more insulating fishplates with more sections powered by droppers could be the way to go.

Great improvement with the new points, certainly adds to the versatility of the layout. You asked about track cleaning: I do use track rubbers then vacuum, but I use a sharge tanker track cleaner (like the CMX in OO, but for N gauge)🎉, then isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush on points to clear out debris and clean the track. I also get dead sections from time to time. I am convinced its the expension and contraction of the track / fish plates as Ive wiggled the track and all fires up, but extra droppers always help. Having said that the model railway pixies do strike from time to time.

Tell me about those model railway pixies! Thanks for the info, I'll look into those.

i use a 'track mop' with cut strips of lint free cloth and track magic or ipa. occasionally i use a track rubber but its annoying to then need to hoover up any debris.

Thanks for that. I know what you mean about track rubbers. I've seen a track roller that has removable cloth attached you could put some fluid on advertised, so might take a look at that.
