I briefly interacted with Ju Wenjun in Dubai Police Cup last month... She is very calm when she plays chess, and she smiles a lot. She sometimes even smiles when she plays in tournaments. She is a very friendly person even though she is the top female chess player in the world. I also met Anna and her loving mother in NY at Washington Square Chess park in 2023. They had a nice game with the chess hustler in the park. It's so much pleasure to see this video. What a time to be alive...

"She is very calm when she plays chess, and she smiles a lot. She sometimes even smiles when she plays in tournaments." So she smiles a lot when she plays chess, but not when she plays chess(in tournaments)? Am I missing something or she smiles a lot only when it's non tournament chess games but rarely smiles during tournament games? As a pro that means she doesn't smile often then since as a pro and as a world champion I am assuming she plays primarily tournament games?

It seems many of the top players are very arrogant and unpleasant: Kasparov, Korchnoi, Fischer, Nakamura, Carlson, and even lower rated players such as Gotham Chess. Big egos and attitudes.

Congratulations! Now you can tell your grandchildren you "briefly interacted" with a chess player. I am sure they will immediately schedule an autograph signing session at their school. I understand why men and women are separated in physical sports but why are they separated in Chess? This makes zero sense to me.
@tascolino538Ай бұрын
There's a physical part to chess as well. After a grueling 3 hour classical match you would actually be physically exhausted....as well as mentally.

Men and women have different brains. Different activities appeal to each and some are more naturally suited for men or women.
@Alex-wo7dpАй бұрын
@@Sleepyjudei different ways of thinking doesn't make them unequal like physical sports. For the idiot above who said there is a physical aspect to chess obviously never crunched a guy going over the middle in a football game so he can stay out of this topic.

It's not different. There's open category and then there is only female category (which was only made to motivate more women to play). The women can go play in the open category too. But I mean they get prizes in women's too so I believe it's just comfortable

Great game, Pia! ❤❤❤ I remember watching her live in Belgrade in 1992, at the Sava Center conference hall. She had the highest ELO there and took the 3rd place in an extremely fierce competition. The 1st place was won by Maya Chiburdanidze, who was the world champion just a year prior to that event (she lost the world title match to Xie Jun in 1991). Some other famous names were present, such as Nona Gaprindashvili (also former world champion), Svetlana Matveyeva, Nana Ioseliani, as well as our best player ever, Alisa Maric. Pia came back to Belgrade in 1996 to another top championship where she took the 2nd place, the 1st again taken by Maya.
