FYI: The actor who told Tarantino he had lived with his stunt double for a time was none other than Burt Reynolds. His longtime stunt double was Hal Needham, who later went on to direct Smokey and The Bandit, Cannonball Run and other films - most starring Reynolds.

My mom’s high school sweetheart was Steven Parent, the actual first victim the night of the Tate murders. He was a fresh out of high school kid in the wrong place at the wrong time there to sell electronic equipment to the ground’s keeper. Her prom photo with him is in the book Helter Skelter and the same picture still hangs in her house. She still gets upset when that August date rolls around and has only spoken publicly once about it in 50 years on a podcast a couple years ago. I took her to see this movie and she was pretty shooken up. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing that they didn’t include him in the movie.

Sadly, according to Gene Lebell...a former wrestler who did stunts on the Green Hornet tv show....Bruce was a cocky guy...remember Bruce was sent to America cause he got in trouble in Hong Kong as a teenager. I admire his skills and philosophy but one must see all sides of the man.

This is my favorite Tarantino film. I love biopics and movies about Old Hollywood, even if half of it is make-believe. The scene with Sharon Tate watching her movie in the theatre and enjoying everyone's reactions just warms my heart every time I watch it. Please react to True Romance next. It might be one of Quentin's greatest scripts, and it's directed by the legendary Tony Scott.

Quentin and Leo gave Rick a backstory of having manic depression and self-medicating with alcohol. He was inspired by a real actor who comitted suicide in the 70's and Quentin didn't understand why because he seemed like a successful actor.

I had no idea going in to the movie that it was based on the Manson family. Caught on halfway through and absolutely loved the ending. That's probably the closest Tarantino will ever get to directing a fairytale.

Cool that Austin Butler played Tex Watson, later to shine as Elvis! The Lancer director was played by Nicholas Hammond, who was Friedrich in The Sound of Music and TV’s Spider Man in the 70’s. Little Easter egg is that Timothy Olyphant, who played actor James Stacy is seen driving his motorcycle away from the Lancer set. Stacy ended up losing an arm and a leg in a horrible motorcycle accident.

This has been such a fun ride with you guys. I’m glad it’s continuing on a little, because I was dreading it being over. A fun fact Jen might enjoy is the actor playing the director Sam Wanamaker is Fredrick from The Sound of Music. I spent so long trying to place his face and was blown away when I looked it up. I have the same top 3 as Nick, but it really rotates, so I can never definitively say one is my favourite. They’re all masterpieces. Unpopular opinion but Django is at the bottom for me. It’s a lot of people’s favourites, but I find it an extremely uncomfortable watch. The performances are great, but it’s not a film I choose to watch in full.

My dad grew up in Los Angeles during this time and we were always there to visit and be with family. This movie captures the feel of LA so perfectly. It’s such a magical and beautiful place, outside all the movie stars and glitz. One of my favorite scenes is after Sharon walks by the theater before going into the bookstore. Walking across the street towards her are two young adults and they could be my dad and one of his sisters. Tarantino made a gorgeous film and a time capsule. I love it ❤️ My top 3 for Tarantino for sure!

Notice how Steve says “I never stood a chance” .. That same line gets to me later when Rick Dalton mentions how he lost a role to Steve McQueen and says “I never stood a chance”… that line makes it poetic b/c where Steve wanted something/someone and was no match for it, other people (Rick) desired something Steve had and they were no match for it as well… very poetic on how they all chase things each other have.

The ranch that they filmed this at, was in Corriganville, just up the road from the original spahn ranch. Spahn ranch burnt to the ground in a wildfire in 1970. The only thing that remains is a wide spot off the road.

And that actress Margaret Qualley is in the limited series Maid on Netflix. She was nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes. In the last scene you didn't include the clip of Sharon Tate coming out to meet Rick Dalton. In that final scene Margot Robbie is wearing a number 17 football jersey. It's a Dallas Cowboys jersey, and number 17 was Dallas quarterback Don Meredith. Sharon Tate was from Dallas.

Great reaction :) This movie is in my top 10. And I like that you learn piece of history along the way as well. In case of Tarantino movies my most favourite trio is 1. Once upon a time in Hollywood 2. Pulp Fiction and 3. Inglorious Basterds. But his other movies, mainly westerns are amazing too of course. Cheers

In 1969 it was the end of old school Hollywood with all the restrictive star contracts and everything being shot at the studio's sound stages/backlots. European cinema was starting to get more successful and TV was taking away cinema audiences.

Love this movie! Though it doesn't feel like there's much of a plot on the first viewing. Tarantino has expressed that this film is something of his magnum opus, the movie he was meant to make through all his years in Hollywood, and watching movies and shows growing up, etc., and that his 10th and final film will be more of an epilogue to his filmography. He is currently at work on it and it is titled The Movie Critic. Set in 1970's California, is is said to draw inspiration from Taxi Driver.

Love your reactions guys. I'll recommend you to give 3 idiots(comedy/drama), Taare Jameen Par(based on a dyslexic kid) and Dangal(wrestling/sports drama) a try from India. These are story based movies unlike bahubali, KGF and RRR which were more action based. I believe these movies would give you a better perspective of Indian movies. Again it's just my pov, but please give your honest thoughts on the movies.

Read about the bruce lee and judo gene lebell match/fight. Gene picked him up and couldve slammed him into goo. but didnt and bruce said put him down or kill him. so judo gene carrie him around the set for a while like a child. I met judo gene before he passed at a grappling tournament in glendale.

It would be great if you reviewed the Tom Cruise film “Magnolia.” It’s heartbreaking but an excellent drama. Lots of stars before they were well known. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in it. Legendary actor James Robbard (spelling?) before he passed I think. Of course Tom Cruise is excellent. Lots of famous actors who do not disappoint.

If you watch Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress" (隠し砦の三悪人) , it might make you rethink the pastiche idea of George Lucas and Star Wars. At least how varied his influences were... it's a pretty direct connection.

The Bruce Lee part pissed off a lot of people and I understand why... it doesnt paint him a good light... I can accept it for storytelling purposes but one big thing this movie gets wrong about Bruce is that he idolized Cassius clay / mohammad Ali... He used to shadow box to projected film of clays / Ali's fights and that's also how he got his "float like a butterfly" dancing around style in the movies... I highly doubt Bruce said he'd make Clay a cripple because Bruce famously said that Cassius would kill him in a real fight just based on weight differences

The green hornet scene was loosely based on a confrontation Bruce had with a stuntman named Gene Lebell, who was a huge inspiration for the Cliff Booth character. I am a Bruce Lee fan too, but it would be Ludacris to assume he won every fight he was ever in. I'm not sure why people are so upset anyway when it was clearly a draw. No one as Bruce said "beat anyone up"

Tarantino has said in interviews that Cliff booth in real life would kill Bruce Lee because Cliff was a killer while Bruce Lee was an actor and not a real martial artist. He would also falsely claim that Bruce Lee used his celebrity to hurt stuntmen during fight scenes so he has a real dislike for Bruce Lee and concluded that if anybody doesn’t like it they can suck his private. He claims people have a liking for Bruce Lee who was an ahole but he knows the truth and that’s why he portrayed Bruce Lee as he truly was. Jackie Chan who was a stuntman on the set of Enter The Dragon was bothered by Tarantinos portrayal and personal comments about Bruce Lee because he said Bruce fought for better wages for all stuntmen whom he would eat with and spend time with during filming. Jackie said Bruce accidentally hit him during a scene and said after the scene was completed Bruce ran to him and apologized and said he was so sorry he didn’t mean to hit him. Jackie said he played the hurt part so Bruce could pay him attention and Bruce even got him a raise in pay. To hear Jackie Chan tell it it was honest but also comical. I had major problems with that scene because it was filmed with malicious intent and disrespectful to a man who was dead and loved by many. And also insensitive to the Lee family who also felt disrespected and to have Tarantino reply if someone doesn’t like it they can suck him.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. I can excuse the scene itself, since Cliff is remembering in his favour, and both times we see Bruce in the latter half of the movie, he's much more encouraging (basically, how he was in real life). My big issue is Tarantino's claims after the movie's release, where he's stuck repeating the same falsehoods about Bruce Lee and his antagonistic remarks to anyone who calls him out on it.

You found it offensive how Bruce Lee is portrayed? Listen to Tarantino talk about that. Couple things. He says the only person's opinion of the portrayal that matters is the family. The Bruce Lee was known to not respect stunt men and would sometimes purposely hit them in fights. Neither of us knew him. So to be offended by a portrayal of a stranger is ridiculous.

The idea of the Bruce Lee scene is that it's a story told by Cliff, who is obviously exaggerating. He probably didn't really beat up Bruce Lee, but got beaten up by him.
