This video is a bit of a primer for a massive upcoming project I've been doing a ton of behind the scenes prep work on. I've decided to design and 3D print all the Hobbit Holes for an epic Shire/Hobbiton project as I figured this would not only save me on time, as there will be over 8 Hobbit Homes on the board (final number to be decided), but to also make these available to all of you for your own Hobbit Home/Shire project!
I put a LOT of work into these things to make them as detailed, realistic, and believable as possible as well as vary them in detail and character from one another to create an authentic, Hobbiton vibe just like the films. Pretty proud of these little guys so let me know what you think in the comments below!
The files aren't ready yet but they'll be available for purchase once the final project is up and on the channel. So, keep an eye out for that...

@@RealTerrainHobbies I think Scott is referring to your plan to sell the stl files for printing hobbit holes. That's not fair use, at the very least you'd have to label them as halfling homes and not hobbit-holes. Plus if they are too close a facsimile to the movie versions you're skating on thin ice also. Tolkien Estate, New Line, Games Workshop et al are very aggresive at protecting their IP.

I thought the concept and format of the video was great, and I look forward to the rest of the project. The introduction seemed overly long and repetitive though; I think Danny was introduced like three times before we got to see him. I think a more concise and organized intro would improve the flow of the video a lot.

Have to agree about the print-failure issues... Even once you get the plate levelled it's still a trial with settings and print angles and supports. That being said, I have most of it licked these days. Switching from transparent resin to opaque coupled with changing the base layer times to 90 seconds helped me get that solid anchor. (But I still hover over the printer waiting to hear that first solid pop first time the plate pulls away from the FEP- that reassures me the anchor is starting solid.) When it comes to software, don't just trust the automatic supports- if it's a fine detailed mini, reduce supports to light ones and just throw lots more on- it'll make up the strength and be far easier to get off the mini cleanly at the end without losing detail. As for larger pieces, hollowing out will reduce that surface area to stop it pulling away mid-print, but when that's not possible, try different angles to visualise how the layer might be printed with less surface area (and again, when it doubt add more supports or supports that reinforce others joined to the piece, remember that the square foundation on the plate is where your stress is so enlarging it helps the anchor. These days my main failures have been scaling issues where I either didn't check multi-part prints or underestimated the original sizes- so yes you'll still have failures- but perfectly printed ones!! lol

3d printing is going to revolutionize the hobby as more and more people get into it. I've been teaching myself how to use blendr, and, while I still have a long ways to go before I'd feel comfortable uploading the STLs, even my dorky little practice sculpts can still be used as quirky goblins or homunculi. @@RealTerrainHobbies my recommendation, there is a photon file validator (google it like this) it helps finding spots that might need supporting (this is just to make sure, it's happened to me), i say it because when i see that kind of error it often comes to a support not holding and then you get layers printed over eachother. Now, some settings from chitubox can result in odd support problems. This is why for most of my prints i have used the stock program they hand with the machine. It helped me learn a bunch of things about supports. Next i'd recommend you swing by "3d printing farm" youtube channel. He's got a bunch of tuts on how to's in resint printing. That was a nice video, and I'm very excited for the new big project! :) However, I think having the painting at the same time as Dany giving important information made the whole thing a bit difficult to follow. I actually had to rewind the video a few times because I was focussed on what was said and missed a step in the painting, or the other way around

Thanks. It was a different format and I had several people prior watch the video to see if this exact issue was a problem for them. They seemed to think it was fine so I left it as is so as not to make it a 30 min video. But, I understand where you're coming from on that. It was a bit of a coin toss but next time I'll do more brainstorming to see if there's a better way. This wasnt a typical build video for me so it was certainly more of an experiment.

It is nice to have "behind the scenes" content like this thought, and especially seeing you do 3D modeling. You seem to be really skilled! :)

You know you can sculpt in blender, right? You don't need the features found exclusively in zbrush for printing minis
