😡 My most frustrating RC experience ever? I expected 100 MPH easily!

So the disappointment on this one was huge. What happened versus what I thought was going to happen were so far apart in the real world. I assumed that the car would fall apart long before we got to top speed. But wow, was I wrong. 😡 And to be clear. What is on this video is only about 20% of the total driving time. So therefore there was a lot more frustrating footage that you did not see. 😂

The setting is called: THSPD. It'll smooth out the throttle. Try speed1 set to zero. But you might also have a ESC problem, as some ESC's doesn't accelerate smoothly. So with the car on a bench, try accelerating from 0 past the 25% where you had the problem. Try going smoothly to 50%.

I'm thinking, it might be the diff binding up, sending more power to one wheel? Is it always spinning in the same direction? Or as someone said, maybe a wheel now spinning freely? It's certainly strange? I can't think that you've suddenly got that much of a burst of speed, that it wants to swap ends like that? Gutted for you mate, but I'm sure you'll figure out what's causing the spinning out. Maybe change the gearing to drop the revs a bit, look at what's in the rear diff, and maybe the tyres? Getting the suspension right for high speeds was tough for me, after taking my time getting everything just right I still had to tweak things a little before going too fast. I'm still not where where I want to be yet, but I'm learning.

Hi John . Enjoying the videos. I have the same car (nitro) and was sold in parts via magazine issues by deagostini. The tyres could be upgraded to sticky slick tyres together with a two speed transmission for around £100 but is no longer available on their website. Might be worth contacting them direct.

Gyros can be funky sometimes. I'd remove it and then re-test. I had one that gave me a problem similar to that. Mine didn't seem to want to calibrate correctly. Also, sounds like it cogs alot at initial throttle, but part of that may be the high overall gearing. It's coming along really well though, you'll get it lined out.

The rear left wheel looks like it could be causing some sort of issue for it to spin, may be worth double checking if anything is too tight. Gutted for you though it looks like a great project

I get a feeling your rear left wheel is not spinning as freely as the rest? Maybe over tightened the wheel nut or a bad bearing?

Oh that's interesting. On the day I didn't notice but having looked at the footage again you are right. It always spun out in the same direction. I put it down to where I mounted the motor but it of course could have been that. So thank you so much! I will double check and if it turns out to be so simple I will ask my wife to slap me hard across the face! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the tip! 😉👍🏼

Try using thicker diff oil in the front diffs or maybe even locking it as long as the front is thicker than the rear you should be much more stable

Does the nitro version handle any better？ If so, perhaps you can look at the differences in weight distribution？

Tyres don't seem to be gripping well and that could render the gyro ineffective although I didn't notice it trying to fight the spin. I know you said Aerodynamics will keep it straight but have you got enough downforce to keep it planted?

@@JohnRobinsonRC I was inspired by you to buy the wltoys 124016, and cram a 3s 50c battery into it lol. One of the things I realized tinkering with front and rear camber and toe is how this affects the contact patch of the tire under acceleration, and how the alignment itself can change due to the combination of crazy torque and flex in the suspension components. Consider that if something is amiss with your spring rate and/or damping rates, if they are too stiff, you could spin out. Perhaps study the Impact 20% and above throttle has on alignment and springs. You will need to record the fronts and rears separately with a go-pro or similar lightweight cam mounted on the car, and study footage to see what changes immediately before a washout event. Also study real world basic alignment and suspension characteristics for optimal performance on rear wheel drag cars, and see how that can be scaled down to the F1 car. Ah great stuff. I love the 124016 and having the 3s livens it up just enough. 😂 Yes there fore sure is a lot of performance to be gained or lost on wheel camber, toe and well. Basically everything. I did try several months ago to show the effects of the anti roll bar with my tiny Insta360 camera mounted on the front to show the differences. Problem was that even with side by side videos. The effects were not that noticeable or different. Even though it obviously transformed the cars behaviour. Maybe having more footage and a range of cars could offer a more noticeable difference. Thanks for the ideas. I think locking the diffs would help for sure. Something to try if nothing works. At the end of the video I tried warming the tires but it just didn't seem to help. I'm now wondering if some weights along the car would help.... 🤔

Well all I can say is you were smiling at the end of video because all you had to do was look at what you put together. No luck on foam tires at 90mm so far .. But while you wait, what ya think about treating those rear tires like the drag racers do? With all the stick stuff for a few runs...

Too much restrictions on the front end and not enough traction on the back. Getting foam tires for all 4 might not help. Relocate your battery, ESC, and receiver to the back of the car. As for the front, check everything make sure tires are free, check bearings, hex adapter etc

its ur weight distribution. when my all wheel drive is only driving the rear all it does is spin. add weight to rear.

Wow Paul. I did not even think of that! Nice one my friend. I will remove it if I have any more issues. Putting new batteries in seemed to help but with a car that can potentially go to 130 kph or faster. I have to have confidence it the controls so I will for sure keep your idea in mind.
