okay UPDATE on wearing it with long hair down: after I finished filming this video I basically forgot that the tackiness might be an issue. It didn't bother me, and the product looked great through dinner at my sister's house and a rambunctious viewing of the RuPaul's Drag Race season 15 premiere. It stayed intact and looked exactly like it looked in this video until I washed it off at the very end of the day. However...I still shy away from applying it when I'm planning to wear my hair down. The whole balm-plus-hair thing just feels a little bit on the messy side for me, especially because I have other blushes that I also love that have a drier finish. I now know that I CAN wear it with my hair down if I really want to for some reason, it's not a disaster, but I'd just rather wear my other blushes on those days. Thanks for watching!

I like to put a setting powder on for makeup. Then after applying the miracle balm, I take that brush that doesn't really have anything left on it and dab it a bit on top of the miracle balm. It still shines through but ends up less tacky that way.

I bought Dusty Rose on a whim right before starting chemo earlier this year. I knew the chemo would drain the life and color out of my skin but I wanted a way to feel radiant and vital. I wore it nearly anytime I left the house. Friends and family would say… You’re glowing! And I felt more energized. I even wore it sometimes when it was just me. Towards the end of treatment, I’d lost all of my eye lashes and eyebrows. I looked so washed out. I felt exhausted. It was pretty empowering to have something that felt like it gave me life. I just bought All-Over Glow. It has tiny silver flecks like micro glitter in it. But I don’t mind. I watched a lot of RuPaul’s Drag Race during treatment and feel like I am leaning into the extra life when I wear it. I loved your review. You did an amazing job of putting into words what is hard to articulate. Thanks.

Bring back the minis, Jones Road!! In 2021(?), they had all of them in 8.5g minis and they disappeared. I saw only 1 mini offered in 2022 and it was part of a kit. It also flew off the shelves. If they sold a full set of colors in minis, I'd be all over that and I suspect people would be less intimidated to try and fall in love.

I listened to her story recently and it made me sad because I didn't know it at all. She had sold her Bobby Brown cosmetics fairly quickly back in the 90s and for many years was OKAY with the relationship as the face of the company, However, they started going in a direction that she didn't like, and for years she had to promote products she didn't believe in. She finally reached the point where she was free of that contract and immediately started her new cosmetic line Jones Road.

I maintain that Jones Road is like Glossier for a more mature audience. As someone who lives in the Midwest this is my favorite makeup product when I know I will be spending time outside. It really protects from the wind and cold and helps me from getting too dry while making me look cute! I have found that it the only times I find it sticky or tacky is when I don't blend it in well enough or put on too much and try and make it something it's not.

I was in my mid-late 20s when I started getting Jones Road ads. I was merely making the comment that the brand feels like minimal cool girl makeup as opposed to big brand luxury makeup. It has a niche instead of wide net with splashy marketing trying to reach the most people as possible. Personal opinion.

I love miracle balm. I have it in 3 colors---none of which are those two in your review. I'm definitely in Bobbie Brown's demographic as an older woman who tends to wear no makeup at all. This is no makeup makeup. I wear it on my cheeks, eyelids and lips. It takes no skill to apply. I can apply it in a moving vehicle. Your review is totally accurate. I'm a totally natural girl with mature skin who never wants to focus on makeup again. I watch you for fashion advice. Great job on this video, Hannah!

For more mature skin that has lost its glow, this is amazing. I have quite a few…I gave it to my sisters at Christmas. After the initial tack, it sinks into the skin through the day and my skin just feels soft as a baby’s at the end of the day (not sticky at all). The more you emulsify it the less tacky it is. Spread it on really thin. It looks so pretty on you, Hannah! ❤❤❤

Do you ever use it as a sort of "all over" make-up? A type of foundation I guess (I know nothing about makeup btw). I'm wondering, if I got the colour most close to my skin colour, could I use it as an all-over make-up that could even out my skin tone. Oh! And if so, what about using concealer under the balm for the under-eye area? Is it doable?

First off: thank you HLP, for reviewing this, and congratulations to Bobbie Brown. It must suck when a brand that you no longer control, or even work for, still carries your name. That seems like it would be SO frustrating and disheartening. It's cool that she's struck out on her own again, and is enjoying so much success with it. I'm very intrigued by the Jones Road face pencil. It seems to be a concealer in pencil-form. Kinda like those ones that often came in brow kits a few years back. I have an older one from a Morphie brow bundle that's okay, so I bet JR would have an even better version of that. Wider shade range, slightly more blendable and soft, etcetera. Those are my hopes, anyway. My thing with the Miracle Balm is the size of it. I'd never be able to use even a *fraction* of it before it went off. I also feel like I have this product. In fact, a lot of it, or something analogous to it, from Rituel De Fille. I went OFF with their products this year. With their Inner Glow Cream Pigments? I feel that, while they look more pigment-saturated than Miracle Balm seems to be, they'd fill that same niche. Close cousins, anyway. The "naturally herbaceous scent" (RDF's description, but it fits) is there, they work as lip or cheek products, and even eye colour if you like that smeary, wet, un-set look. There's also the line of even smaller compacts of pigment that is shinier, less opaque, and more balmy. I can't remember the name of that line off the top of my head, which is stupid because I have it in every colour. I went to snag Wasp, the bright yellow one (just wanted to see, y'know? I probably should have just got it in a sample kit, but whatever) and ended up getting the full set. I already have Glasswing, so I gave the new one to my Mom. My Mom is a total no-makeup, home-made-soap-for-skincare person. I can't push an oil cleanser, or even moisturizer on her. She'll spray sunscreen on her face if she's planning on being in the sun, but that's it. She hates her face being greasy, and because she's got beautiful skin anyway, at 70, she gets away with it. Here's why I'd give makeup to a person who almost never wears it. I recently convinced her to let me do her makeup for an office holiday party. I mostly used Mothership V, a little peach colour corrector from a Tarte palette, and RDF products. I went in very lightly, and described everything I was doing. She was very intrigued by RdF in particular. When I showed her one of the boxes, so she could read the ingredients, she got really excited. For makeup, anyway. She wasn't leaping for joy, but she was dialed right in. "I have almost every single ingredient for this in the back, in my soap room!!!" She said. Because beauty isn't on her radar at all, the idea that there would be companies who make Clean Beauty didn't even occur to her. For her cheeks, I used a damp sponge to apply a super light wash of Glasswing, deepening the little bit of Desire I'd already laid down, and painted some of the former onto her lips. The whole look was so subtle: no foundation, just under-eye concealer. The aforementioned whisper of blush draping. A wash of Garland, slightly deepened at the crease with Cultist, RDF's Eye Soots, on her lids. I used a taupe pencil to shade in her brows slightly, and the deepest shade in Bronze Seduction as a tiny, shaded, almost-wing on her upper lash line. I even did a tiny lower lash "shadow" at the outer corner, and she was like, "My friends and I used to do this as kids in the 60's!" Over the colour corrector, I used RDF's concealer balm in Metis, just under her eyes, because she requested that I "hide [her] eye bags". I set that with a translucent powder from Ciaté that has a tiny hint of glow and smells like watermelon. I blended a tiny bit of one of the RDF cream highlighters on her high points, and her inner corners, and used a little mascara on her. It all sounds like a lot, but it only took about 15 minutes, and she looked *gorgeous*. It was enhancement, not transformation; we just brought her features forward, y'know? Mom actually gasped when I showed her the end result, and my Dad, the sweetheart, said, "I love you without makeup, you look beautiful no matter what. *Singing* My darling, you look wonderful tonight." We were all Clapton earwormed for the rest of the afternoon. I just went way off-topic, but it was really fun to do my Mom's makeup. I recently changed up her hair as well, giving her full, curly bangs, and quite a lot of layers . It looks fucking STELLAR, if I do say so myself. I still have the skills! I digress, again. This video is about Jones Road. I don't work for anyone, so this is not me making a clumsy attempt at marketing for a competitor in your comments section. I just have a bunch of RDF's stuff; it's still new and exciting to me. It will take me years to go through all of it, and some will go bad before I can pan them. Probably around half of the balmier cream pigments I got in the above-mentioned set will be unopened, and given as gifts to the actual makeup lovers in my life. Taking a page from your gifting advice book: giving exquisite versions of something that somebody wouldn't buy for themselves. Anyway. Hopefully you're having an amazing day, you, person who is somehow still reading this. Sending you lots of platonic, internet-stranger love to everyone.

I've been wearing the balms for six months and love them...all four I purchased. Sometimes I wear the bronze on my eyes---but can't wear mascara with it---just a touch of color on eyes for a no make up look. Great description in your review.

So glad to see this review! I got this in the Rose color forever ago, and I feel like it didn’t have *enough* color for me. Now I’m wishing that I had gotten one of the more pigmented ones, bc it seems that more pigment lends itself well to the formula. I was having to put so much on to get *any* color at all, and it got much too greasy for me 🤷 I also felt like my lips got a bit dryer the longer I used this on them.

I really appreciated your commentary on the BBrown Miracle Balm. I have been a follower of Bobbi for 30+ years. I am 70 now, have taken very good care of my skin in spite of growing up on West Coast Beaches my entire youth, spending serious time on a ranch in Texas with only a hat for years -pre sunscreen era- and especially running up and down the roads in CA with no helmet on my motorcycle for 30 years. All that being said, my skin looks pretty amamzing because of really good retinOID therapy. I did want to add that the Miracle Balm has indeed become my favorite products simply because it Does hydrate my skin all day in spite of me still riding 40K miles a year on my bike AND it has enabled me to replace several products in the morning and cutting my out- the- door time to 10 minutes. I am a medium neutral skin tone and the Bronze that you have, barely shows up on my skin beyond giving me just the barest tint and I have ordered the darker Tawny to replace the cream blush.

She sold Bobbi Brown to Estee Lauder and when left as executive was prohibited from doing anything in the makeup business for several years. She didn't immediately start this line. This was supposedly the product that made her return to the cosmetics industry. She actually didn't mean this product to be necessarily blush but like the skin balm skin care under Bobbi Brown a face balm that would deliver a color as filter, (like natural, tan, magic hour, golden hour, etc.), but as any balm can be used for lips, eyes, etc., and was asked to create a few very pigmented shades. However, it doesn't really SUPPLY moisture, but keeps in moisture and more provides emollient properties. Oil based. The demographic seems to be more for mature skin, peri- or post menopausal skin.

The translucent quality of this as it appears in the review is reminding me of the Salt New York blushes, which I love--they have that natural, minimal enhancement as well. Those ones don't have the sort of seal on top and for me they do eventually set down and become non-stick.

I think this product has a learning curve. I wanted to throw it away the first time I used it. Now, it’s my favorite product! I use dusty rose and my skin color is similar to yours. I’m ready to order a couple more colors. I have found that patting it on my skin works best to not have tackiness. I always wear my hair down and when I Pat it onto the skin, the tacky texture goes away fairly quickly. Thanks for your review! It has helped me decide on my next colors.

And I have to say, even though you didn’t get your first-choice shades, both look really pretty on you!

I have the natural miracle balm (au naturel) and it is absolutely marvellous. I use it the same way you would a setting spray, applying a very thin layer all over the face as a last step of the makeup routine to freshen everything up. It doesn’t disturb the makeup under it at all. I was afraid it would be too heavy, but it’s surprisingly breathable. I love it, particularly because I have dryer skin and live an a dry, cold climate so it’s been essential during the winter months.
@jennavhuang

How would you apply it (since it’s a balm) over makeup? My instinct is to rub it in but that’ll move the makeup underneath
@NaibocaJ
@NaibocaJ Жыл бұрын
@@jennavhuang I usually take a small amount on the tip of my fingers, rub my fingers together to melt the product, then tap it onto my face gently. The key is to not use too much product or pressure. It works best on base products that have set or been powdered, so if you prefer dewy foundations or base products that don’t set down they could mix together. I haven’t had much experience with using it over medium/medium-full/full coverage products, since I prefer I lighter base, so I can’t speak to how it would affect base coverage.

This was such a thoroughly helpful review. I only knew of this by reputation and had similar preconceptions, but this actually looks quite lovely for a very laid back look. The swatches and application are so surprisingly different but both are helpful to see, I appreciate the showing of both, and the process of building it up. It doesn't sound good for oily skin, so I'll pass but it is nice seeing creative items like this. I do have concerns about the longevity of this rather large tub of a 'clean beauty' product.
