When I was in the army (Sappers), I always kept the chef's and QM on side. Always remember in NI, coming back into a base and picking up a good hot feed. Sad to see units disappear, amalgamation. Inf, Cav, Tanks, plus RCT, ACC etc etc. Great presentation.

Thanks for this. Reminded me of happy days as apprentice in A Company Byford Platoon 1967-1970 - saw my old block. Even picture of washrooms! It also brought tear to the eye as they never kept it long. My intake was one of the first to go into new barrack blocks.

No.1 Burner at 8:03. 8:40 - St Omer Guardroom near the Armoury had the shiniest dustbin in England 😊 The Tower block concourse used to have glass cases with loads of cakes on display; cake boots with laces, and all sorts. Outside K1 kitchen there was a plaque from Monty's visit. Courses were run in Clayton Bks. The civvy instructor chefs in St Omer were the best in the country. In those days a chef could learn anything and practice anything they wanted. And sadly, the ACC Memorial Hall was given away.

Anyone with great memories of Aldershot, hold them, don't go back there.

This brings back some memories. Byron 'Luigi' Askham was an outstanding bloke; went on a few courses with him and last spoke to him when he was in Spain, about 2005. Clever man. I recognise all of these pictures, but as for the ACC, after 16 years in from 1976 (probably its best days) , those days and times are way behind me. Same goes for Aldershot.

I was in the 43rd intake. Almost makes me want to cry to see the place like that. We were trained by some of the top chefs from London. The picture of the soldiers in battle dress(brown) are of lads that were there at the same time as me. Loved the training, hated going to a unit. Pioneer corps first then RCT with a bit of Parachute regiment for good measure. Love it.

@@chrispartridge2530 You are correct. Arkham platoon. We won the parade competition with a Scottish Sgt who's name escapes me. Surprised that there is no comment from Hutchison ( lost the middle two fingers on the fence at Portsmouth) or Jeff Jeffrey's have appeared. What a shame they killed the ACC and the tower block. Bought a tear to my eye.

they must have moved a and b company buildings, in 1981, the block next to the naafi was b company, they may have changed the companies around after the apprentice was murdered in locker, in canal, one apprentice was put in locker, thrown in canal back of b company, with the idea, the locker landed doors open, but the locker turned over, and the apprentice drown,.
