IMHO, the way this video works is that it plays with your sense of anticipation. I'm sure you already heard the song "Bad to the bone", and so every time this video plays its guitar riff you jump in anticipation for the rest of the song, coming any second. The visuals of skull-shaped gear knobs are actually a connection to the "Terminator" franchise and the general badassery of the song, adding to the viewing/listening pleasure.
