Forced marriage is illegal in the UK. I must respectfully clarify that the assertion presented contains misinformation. The issue at hand is not a reflection of the religion Islam but rather cultural practices prevalent in specific regions and communities, particularly in the Subcontinent and Arab cultures. As an African Muslim, I can attest that no one is compelling me to marry a cousin or relative, nor are parents arranging marriages for me. It's crucial to understand that cultural practices can differ significantly across various regions and communities, even within the same religious framework. Islam, as outlined in the Quran and the teachings of our Prophet, promotes independence for women and does not endorse compulsion in matters such as marriage. It's essential to differentiate between cultural norms and religious principles, as misrepresentation can lead to misunderstandings. I hope this clarification helps provide a more accurate perspective on the matter.
@ankhmorpok14978 ай бұрын
So you'rre basically saying everything good is from religion and everything bad is from culture? How realistic is that position? For example, arranged marriage is as Islamic as it is a part of Desi or Arab culture. Especially for girls. Both our culture and religion encourage communal and familial obligations over the individuality we find in the West.

When it comes to Islam vs Culture, the rule to follow is almost always: Everything good came from the culture that place had before Islam, everything bad comes from Islam.
@Sara-eo8py8 ай бұрын
To an extent ur right, but the thing is people have to realize there is nothing wrong with arranged marriages. This is very different from a forced marriage and people need to realize that. I also wanted to say that this video is about women dating outside of their faith. The two problems here is that they are dating, which is the issue and is haram, and second, they are getting with people outside of their faith which is veryyy haram. As muslim women, we are not allowed to marry a non muslim man, only muslim men are allowed to do that (marry women from monotheistic religions). So the fact that people are taking it as Islam doesn’t accept l Muslims to marry others from different cultures and ethnicities is pissing me off. Its actually totally okay, and Muslims from all backgrounds should be treated equally, it’s just the only thing that’s not allowed is that, like mentioned earlier, Muslim women cannot marry non Muslim men. Period. Otherwise it the marriage isn’t valid and she’ll be living the rest of her life in haram.

At a certain point in one's life, one must accept the realization of being an adult, and then actually make an adult decision. If you want to marry someone, then do it and deal with the consequences in a mature manner. Being of the same religion is not a prerequisite to a happy or a successful marriage. Love and respect for one another are necessary. I am a Christian married to a Hindu. I've never made my wife do anything she hasn't wanted to do, and nor have I ever prevented her from doing anything she has truly wanted to do. I would like to clarify some misconceptions that I have encountered in the comments. Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men, and non-Muslim men or women cannot convert solely for the purpose of marriage. Muslim men, on the other hand, can marry women of the book, although this is disputed as some believe Christians are no longer true monotheists. While the practice is allowed for men, it is generally discouraged, and these rulings are not in dispute. One of the tenets of Sharia is obeying the law of the land, and women are free to make their own choices. However, in the eyes of Islam, the marriage is considered null. When consummated, the individuals involved remove themselves from the framework of Islam, and this is something they must accept. Nevertheless, compassion for them is not precluded. The reasons why Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men are numerous, and I will list a few below: Inheritance rights Mehr rights Family rights All of the above fall under Islamic marriage contracts and cannot be enforced when a Muslim woman marries a non-Muslim man. Contrary to popular belief, Islam actually provides robust rights to women within marriage. Examples include: Meher (a woman sets a price for her hand in marriage) The man has to provide all financial needs, and the woman's money is her own. It's often joked that "the woman's money is her money, the man's money is her money." No obligations for chores. The ability to divorce. Additional requirements that can be set during the marriage contract. In Islam, we believe in love, but we also hold the concept that love is developed over time through trials and tribulations, not blind lust. The key principle is the harmony of the family unit, which takes precedence above all else. What this means is if a couple devorces for example a clean split with no kids, the man keeps all his assets and the woman only walks away with her meher the price that she sets, think of this as a built in pre-nup, as she has no requormemts for any contribution towards the household. There is more complexity to all of this, howeber this is just a broad understanding as to why the rules are set the way they are.

There is Nothing Islamic about your practice of marrying a none muslim man. As such marriage is Not considered legal. A Muslim means someone who submits to the will of God, Not your own will. And the Love of God should be more worthy than the Love of a man. One must put God first before desires. Am Not in anyway suggesting you are Not a Muslimah. Because One becomes Muslim by believing Allah and his messenger; and practicing the 5 daily prayers. The marriage bit it's a big sin and the door is open for you to repent to Allah and mend your ties with Allah. I think no human should ever be at ease knowing that the partner was blackmailed into converting. If they voluntarily do it, well and good. But if it's your family pushing him/her to the edge till they result to a decision they'd have never made...then, your convertee spouse is living in religion captivity. You met a grown human and loved everything about them. They're well mannered, loving, handsome/beautiful, responsible and every virtue, then someone imagines that it's ok to rob them off their faith/ religion😥 It's selfishness. Dreams of a loving couple shouldn't be shattered by religion. I have seen a Jew getting married to a Christian with not having to denounce their faith. I have also seen a Muslim girl marrying to a Christian man and they are still together but away from the troublesome family. At some point love is going to win over religious intolerance.

My first question is , if muslims believe their faith is the most important thing, why are they moving into Western countries with their own religion and philosophy? In regards to true Christian doctrine, parents are to raise up their children according to the Bible, and that will continue until the child leaves their parents home. The only thing parents can do, is discipline them, and give them the reason why things are withheld from them. By just giving them rules, without telling the reason or consequences behind the laws, this is where I believe we do a great disservice to children. Ultimately, when they leave their parents home, all the parents can do is hope that they have taught their children well, because they must be given freedom to make their own choices. The idea of controlling children, or forcing them into arranged marriages is repulsive. If you are born into a culture, where this is all one knows, or is socially acceptable, I can comprehend it, but moving to London and then trying to impose these values on your kids is absurd.

How can anyone seriously claim that Islam is a religion of tolerance, when the only way a non-Muslim man can be with a Muslim woman is if they convert. This is cult like behaviour. I’m a non-practicing Christian and my wife is Sikh, we don’t have any of this nonsense and both our families love, accept and respect us. There’s a bit of an irony here…. People in 🇬🇧 who call out this intolerance get branded as Islamophobic and their opinion is shutdown. Allegations of Islamophobia are tossed around strategically which is in itself is coercive, controlling and cult like behaviour. It will never align with British values. The only way that Islam and British society can move forward is for the teachings of the religion to be regulated. Singapore was brave enough to take that step and it has been highly successful. Younger generations of Muslims in Singapore do not hold extreme interpretations of the religion and inter religious relationships are gradually becoming accepted without forced conversions or family dramas etc.

I think these women's experiences should be eye-opening for all, not only because oppression is true, but because these stories, our stories, depict the mental and emotional anguish and torment people go through when their innermost boundaries - bodily autonomy and free will - are repeatedly violated. It's taken me 3 years of on-and-off therapy, training, and focus, to come to terms with what's been happening and to be a functional adult again. These women are also a wonderful testament to our human endurance and resilience, that even when you're being handled like an object, you're auctioned off to the highest bidder, even when your soul is violated in the most profound way, you can escape and you can recover and reclaim yourself again. I felt their very much righteous indignation, and pain, and I cheered for them, from here, from my side of the same story. xx

The thing is : Islam does NOT advise for arranged marriages at all👍🏻 Islam recommends complete freedom about who a girl or a boy wants to marry. It does however also recommend that the parents are comfortable with the choice and if not, that there be an effort to arrive to a place of mutual agreement between all concerned . So these arranged marriages are cultural in nature and actually against Islamic teachings. I’ll say that for what it’s worth 😊

..its disgusting the grief and depression they put their daughters through..these parents had their time,these daughters are GOOD girls,and are individuals,and want to learn and have a career,and not forced into anything.it doesnt work like that anymore..they were brought up in a different country,with that countrys values and freedoms..and divorce is now allowed in most muslim countries..because theyre starting to realise that u cant stop a person doing what she wants for herself,and not just be a slave worker and marry her off to an old man,because thats the way her parents were brought up Then you go on a 'guilt trip' trying to please them,but wanting your own life,and making your own choices as an adult

I am a western guy proudly born and raised in the USA. I married a Muslim woman and we are very happily married together. I recommend western men to look into Muslim women. They are the best!! As far as Islam is concerned, I read the Quran 2 times in English and some Hadith. The religion as practiced in my wife's family has not been intrusive for me but I must watch myself around the family like not eating bacon and drinking alcohol. For me it is well worth a few restrictions.

For me I can do what I want bcoz I'm not Muslim although the wife is muslim. I also let my wife be who she is and wear whatever she want and just have freedom. We are really not that into religion tho. Freedom and happiness comes first. She doesn't wanna be involved with Islam and I'm also not Muslim and we are compatible.

We are social beings and to fall in love is part of being social. So why does society dictate its cruel rules as to what is appropriate about who to fall in love with and who is forbidden!

Islam divides human into Muslims and Kaafir ( Worst of creatures). It’s discriminate against not only against Kaafir, even against men and women. Thats why, I’m Ex-Muslim, Now.

And in Judaism there's Goyim or Jew. But In Jesus there's neither gentile or jew, servant or free, woman or man. It's incredible to me how all 3 religions can trace themselves back to Abraham and have much in common but also differ on many aspects. As for me, I choose to follow Jesus.

@@keef78 you forgot the "Up" after made. Sure the bible is completely void of anything related to god being angry and killing millions for not acting as he wants them to. Definitely not tons of smiting of non-believers and hundreds of parts saying that everybody is equal but sure there are those believing at the "right" skydaddy that makes them always a tiny bit more equal. It's always the same in every single version of this bs in basically all of those over 1000 religions we got. But jeah, sure, your imaginary friend is the real deal and superduperextraright. Also very special. Mhm.

Be with who you want, but don’t expect everyone to accept your choice If you don’t like your family and religion, leave.

I agree. If my parents had this much of a problem with who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with then they aren't really the family that I need. I don't believe in God but I do like the quote ''God gives us our relatives, thank God we can choose our friends.''
