Psychedelic rock is a rock music genre that is inspired, influenced, or representative of psychedelic culture, which is centered on perception-altering hallucinogenic drugs. The music incorporated new electronic sound effects and recording effects, extended solos, and improvisation.

Good choice, thanks for Spirit. But must not be forgotten Love, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Cream, Pretty Thing 67-68, Iron Butterfly, Electric Prunes, birds, Seeds and many and many. 10 albums is a drop in the ocean, too much was left out✌

Ok , Major misses in your psychedelic album list would be ; The Stooges , MC5 , Blue Cheer , Traffic , Pink Floyd (with Sid Barret) , Iron Butterfly , Donovan , Electric Prunes , Frigid Pink , SRC , The Seger System , King Crimson , Amboy Dukes , Strawberry Alarm Clock , Hawkwind , Ultimate Spinach , etc.

Another couple of bands you could add to that list are Quicksilver Messenger Service and Cream.

Spirit is a great band! Actually Jimi Hendrix gave Randy the California name, he was in a band with Hendrix at the age of 15.

All good choices. I would probably add in-a-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. Probably one of the most famous drum solos, after Wipe-out!, by the Surfaris...at least in the 60's. Thanks for the tip on the Bee-Gees 1st.

Agree! Top 10 could have easily turned into top 20 with all the stuff I had to leave out.

Fully agree with all of these! The Woodstock soundtrack also has volumes 3 and 4 (I own them all lol). Would also add Behold and See by Ultimate Spinach and Forever Changes by Love to the list, and of course anything Ravi Shankar!

The 13th Floor Elevators were from Texas. Another Texas band that can be considered psychedelic was Fever Tree. Country Joe and the Fish's first album is always listed, but their 2nd album, I-Feel-Like-i'm-Fixin'-To-Die, is also excellent. It's always overshadowed and forgotten which is too bad.

Thanks for this. I'll see if I can track down something by Fever Tree. Texas definitely cranked out some wild ones (I'm thinking Butthole Surfers!).

The Bee Gees weren't Australian they were British. Emigrated to Australia when they were very young and then came back. Beat of the earth & Ya ho wa 13 should be mentioned for the more out there experience.

I got to meet Randy California a few months before his death. He was a really nice and engaging cat! I always heard that Hendrix assigned him the California moniker.

Jealous! Love those guys. Heard that about Jimi. It takes a certain kinda guy to rock a moniker (and he was that guy).

There were two Randy's in the band. Hendrix called him Randy California (for obvious reasons) and it stuck.

Interesting selection here. I did a top 60s debut LPs on my channel a while back. Did you not consider Traffic's 'Mr. Fantasy' in there?

Great album! Yeah, I was going more for trippy/acid-drenched albums. There are so many that could be on a top-10, but these lists are totally subjective, right?
