Cool! The praise is really definitely merited. Which Nabokov book do you think you'll read next?

Nice!! Is that one a scary story? Or is it more funny, like Pnin? Have you ever read something by Nabokov that was written originally in English?
@marinellamaccagni69514 ай бұрын
My favourite author ever! Unfortunately in italy it's quite difficult to find nabokov's books in english at affordable prices. I own many books in italian but it's not the same things, the prose hasn’t the same taste.
@leafyconcern4 ай бұрын
Which of his books in Italian have you tried? I was recently reading some of that new translation of I Promessi Sposi and I was thinking "I bet this prose has a different taste in Italian."
@marinellamaccagni69514 ай бұрын
@@leafyconcern absolutely! Manzoni used a particular kind of language(spoken florentine)that it's impossible to translate into English. I have read pnin and glory in italian, lolita and pale fire in english. Pale fire blew me away. I read it twice in a row. So from now on only nabokov in english.

HA! I was real surprised when I saw your Lolita cover, I also covered my cover with my own design.

@@leafyconcern It’s this tilted black crucifix with a red oval background. It’s a piece of artwork from some Russian/ukrainian(?) Soviet era painter, but I cant remember his name at the moment. I also didn’t really like that cover of Lolita and didn’t really see the harm in covering those weird lips with something else.

Have you got ada by Nabokov?? I have collection also but in russian:))
@zarinavalieva38532 жыл бұрын
U got it!! 🤭
@leafyconcern2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've got a copy of Ada! It doesn't have the dust jacket and it's a "book of the month club edition" from I'd say the late 70s maybe. I used to have a mass market copy that had a kind of collage of images from the novel contained in a pair of butterfly wings. But that copy was not in good enough shape for me to realistically read, so I sent it on its way because I don't have much room for books as it is -- too many gumming up the shelves. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Sorry for the late reply -- I am not on facebook anymore but you can email me at the email leafyconcern@gmail.com@@zarinavalieva3853 P.S. I also got a paperback edition of Ada recently. My friend was offloading books and offered the paperback to me. I now have both hardcover and softcover, one for display and one for underlining and shoving in the backpack, etc.

My English very bad so... У меня была «Лолита» и недавно я её продал. Другие его книги я читал на телефоне. Мне особенно понравилась «Защита Лужина».

Lolita's a fine book to sell! Personally, I'm looking for a copy of the Everyman's Library edition of Lolita. That nice hardcover, in red cloth. Would be nice to have something you can remove the dust jacket from so you can just forget about book covers altogether. I read "Transparent Things" on my phone! Nabokov phone-reading solidarity. The Defense is a book my friends have liked, but I haven't started it yet. I'm currently reading The Real Life of Sebastian Knight. Thank you for commenting!
