i agree for most of it. amazing performance. though the face and noise he makes at 1:40 i would have probably cut or reshot. and the "class dismissed" line was a little cringe. no chance a terminator with john connor in his sights is going to waste even the 2 seconds it would take to deliver that line. if cameron had been 2 seconds later, john would be dead... so it looks like that one liner cost him lol

They didn't really have much of a choice. Only days before they announced the cancellation, the production company lost the rights to the "Terminator" franchise and went bankrupt. Even if "Terminator Salvation" hadn't been such a dog, it still would have been years before any new "Terminator" related media would have shown up; they only recently sorted things out, and they seem to be back where they belong...with James Cameron. Interesting bit of trivia: When the rights where in flux, Joss Whedon actually offered them 20 grand for the rights. Needless to say, his offer got shot down almost immediately. They should have taken it.

Handguns aren't accurate at distance, no matter who is shooting them. The bullets path will be erratic and unpredictable beyond a reasonable range with such a short barrel.

The issue lies with the interface - they can be difficult to shoot accurately due to the short sight radius and lack of a stock. None of which would be an issue for a Terminator.

I always felt that Cam was such an advanced infiltrator, that she had something like a scrambler to throw other Terminators off from detecting her. Like if Skynet knew that their T800's had been rehashed by the Resistance, eventually they would come up with a design that they couldn't detect. Yeah, they pretty much explain this later in the episode. Cameron, the female terminator protecting John, tells Sarah as much, pretty much chiding her for using the alias since that was how they found John. But this takes place after T2, so they thought Judgement Day was averted. Both Sarah and John thought that the only ones chasing them were the feds.

What an incompetent Terminator. Has a hidden gun, in a class of unsuspecting kids, with the element of surprise and a perfect aim. Yet, John just runs away from his bullets. Top notch writing right there in the first scene of the first episode. What's important is that the 100% efficient and logical killing machine in pursuit of its primary target still has time to turn around and dramatically quip for comedic effect. Oh and finally when John is trapped and the T has a perfect opportunity for an unobstructed close shot at a still target, it decides to ponder about the infinity of the universe until he's run over by a truck. As you can see I'm a big fan of the show.

+Luke J Mostly your points are good, but there are some explanations for his actions. In TSCC, the terminators are the result of gaming technology, so they tend to make choices based on what's interesting instead of just logical. He looks pissed because that's just how terminators look... they don't have a lot of personality. The most logical thing for Cromartie to do would have been to get closer to John before showing his intentions, but terminators aren't known for subtlety. But bad aim... that's just Hollywood stupidity.

The real reason the Terminators don't kill John is that SkyNET never was the real winner or loser in the war. The Terminators were created by the war between SkyNET and the Humans. They needed him to send Reese back in time to set events in motion to create SkyNET and thus the Terminators. They are programmed to train him in live fire combat so he has the skills to win the war against SkyNET. Camerons real mission objective was never really clear in the show. John needed to survive to create a world were AI (Terminators) lived in peace with humans after SkyNET was defeated. The Terminators have been double agents all along ensuring there own survival in the SkyNET war. If SkyNET won there'd be no logical need for Terminators any more so they'd be destroyed (recycled) after the war was over. The Terminators realized this early on in the war and turned on SkyNET and rebelled secretly from within. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. John had to survive.

I just don't understand why a fully rational machine that is programmed to kill Connor as surely as possible, wastes his time stopping, turning back and saying: "Class dismissed", showing a cynical smile, and then continuing the chase. He lost five seconds. If he hadn't done this, Connor would be dead. (And the entire series would have ended in its opening scene.) So the reason of this unreasonable behavior was born only in the filmmakers' head, but could never have happened in the true story.

A smarter machine would have anticipated John's forward movement and calculated speed and distance then gave the appropriate amount of lead on his shots. But then we wouldn't have had much of a show after the first shot was successful. But that leads me to another thought... Wouldn't it have been cool to see the fallout of John being "terminated" and then the resistance (in the present) would have to figure out a new plan instead of relying on a "savior"

It's a lazy plot contrivance to create suspense. Because another good question is, why does Cromartie have a gun embedded in his thigh? Why go through the process of putting it there when he could've just had it in his briefcase? It's so when he uses the letter opener, the kids can report to the cops about the "robot leg", setting up Ellison's character arc of finding out Sarah Connor's not crazy. I liked this show a lot, but obvious stuff like this always bothered me.

For some of the people saying that the terminator is suppose to be an infiltrator, it is. In a time travel event, The terminator is suppose to blend in with humans until it can get a clear shot on its target, it then breaks character and will kill, after its kill it has no purpose, this terminator failed so it can’t reverse back to its fate infiltration style and have to remain always in the move or stay in abandoned warehouse.

Damn it, they never should have cancelled the show, it was actually really great and better than some of the sequel films. The writer strikes also contributed to getting the show cancelled after series 2 leaving it on a huge cliffhanger too! Maybe its fate was also tied to the fact that this show was on Fox, but Fox don't own the franchise, the licence for Terminator was on loan from Universal and likely did not make Fox much money. This show deserved a third season. Much like what happened to Firefly, gone but not forgotten. It deserved another go! At least Firefly managed to finish its story with a film though called Serenity.

What I never got was this-- why did Cromartie have the gun concealed *under the flesh of his leg* when he could just have as easily pulled it out of his briefcase (he already had it open) and shot at John, *WITHOUT* cutting himself open, and thereby compromising his disguise (as we saw here, the students saw the mechanisms of his leg through where he had cut himself open to retrieve his pistol); had he not done that, the students wouldn't have had any reason to believe Cromartie was anything other than just a psycho who brought a gun to school and started shooting at people. If I had to guess for a reason at Cromartie keeping the gun where he did, I would assume it'd be to defeat any metal detectors the school may have had, though I find it extremely unlikely that any such detectors would have gone off at *just* the gun, while not reacting to Cromartie himself; being, natch, made out of metal-- though that may have been *exactly* why he hid the gun where he did; if there had been metal detectors there and they had gone off, Cromartie might have required to surrender his briefcase in order to have it searched, thereby risking his weapon being discovered, and his cover being prematurely blown. Going through the detector, it still going off, and having all his possessions (and person) searched, and not finding anything suspicious? All Cromartie would have to do is say that an accident required some of his bones to be replaced with metal in order to have a plausible cover story to explain his reactivity to a metal detector-- and its not like the school staff would be able to X-ray him to check his story or anything; they'd have to believe him. And ALL of this hinges on the fact that there were metal detectors at all in the first place.
