In the 500 second speedrun you were supposed to bring the bomb you jump on towards the end of each run. You spin jump off the bomb and it hits the note block, you catch it and bring it through to the red coins room which allows you to break out and reach the door after getting each red coin. The going back through the pipe method was 100% a dev exit.

The funny thing is, the clumsy way the red coin thing is designed in the first level makes me think he messed up. What I mean is, if you pay attention, you can already see from the beginning that the pipe doesn't work and by going into the door you can also see, right from the start, that the red coin room doesn't work. Thus, the misdirection is trash. If you wanna troll people into wasting 500 seconds, then you should make it work and then maybe have 1 coin be somewhere else inaccessible to troll people that didn't bother counting out the coins. So I actually think he hastily put these rooms together, accidentally messed up so you can't really use them and then just used his dev exit to upload the level so he never noticed that his level doesn't work.
