I had curly hair when I was a baby. Then my hair got longer and more wavy/straight. Start of Highschool, it started curling again. But with all the damage I’ve done to my curls it’s wavy now🥲. Hopefully my curls can revive again

My natural hair is curly so I understand your sentiments. I starting having my hair straightened at a salon as early as my first year in highschool until now. I've grown my natural hair during the pandemic but I cut it short since it has become frizzy.

Great video. Lots of information. I’m going to share this with my granddaughter. She is currently in between going natural and a relaxer. My hair is in really bad shape. Since the quarantine I haven’t had any hairdresser to do my hair. I haven’t been able to get in touch with my normal hairdresser. I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

Oof, hair journey.... I honestly was always at war with my hair. That video of the girl getting her hair combed... that was me. I also rocked the "hair horns" as I like to call them. lol But that was mostly when I was like 4 or 5. After that is was frizz city until Jr High. I'm an older millennial (1983) so looking up videos on youtube or tutorials on the internet was not a thing i could even do. I went back to El Salvador to see family and even got a my hair straightened with chemicals. It trusted it more because I was in a country filled with people like me and the hairdresser was a family friend (because of course they were. lol) and it worked out at first but I just kept getting frustrated with it as my hair got damaged due to the environment I lived in. It wasn't until I was 20 that I just learned to accept my hair for what it was. I straightened it a few times with heat here and there but it is 99% curly most of the time. Honestly, mouse works rather well with me. My hair texture is a 3B so it's pretty manageable... unless I'm near the beach or in a storm. lol It took me 20 years of life to come to grips with my hair and that is so important to learning how to manage it. So much of what you said I dealt with. So many of my white friends have so much trouble understanding how I felt. I even used to get mocked for my hair in elementary school so it was so attached to my self image, that seeing people with my hair type seen as having "beautiful" hair, always kinda gets to me. I remember when I was in high school (years ago, class of 2009), the emo scene was in. So I would have my mom straighten my hair. I would cover one eye or sometimes both. Lol! Now I just own my hair. My hair is falling off as it does with older guys, but who cares. I’m gonna let it grow and hopefully I can get that controversial man bun. Love these videos prima! Keep going.

The more I talk to people who have curls it seems that cutting our hair or having a big chop seems to be a rite of passage towards going natural.
