To me he's just practical about their financial situation and lifestyle. He's still in the process of establishing himself in SK and not raking in money left and right. It's not like he's depriving his wife and baby with material things, but not just buying them branded items. There's nothing wrong with that. He makes me laugh though when he bargains, but I gotta admit, he's got better bargaining skills than I do.

Jorn is a true Dutch-man. Frugal as can be...and how can you argue with his logic about the diaper bag? Too funny! Wish him the best of luck in his new homeland. Leaving the family in the Netherlands is tough; no bitterballen, kroketten or Gouda kaas, but hello stroopwafels! good job Jorn!

I actually understand Jorn's point of view. As Fabien said, it's part of the European culture (and even more North European) to reuse things, to do flea markets, antiques... Especially Jorn, who is an artist : he's attracted to old objects, senses the artistic and harmonious vibe in them. That's like the Scandinavian esthetic. If you look at their apartment, it's full with wood furniture. Dutch (and Scandinavians) have their own way of raising children, and it's well known that they're the most happy, educated and blooming children in Europe. Why would Jorn pay 2500$ for a high class post-natal room with massages, shooting when he could do all these himself ? He's a recognized photograph ! Anyway, I find this couple cute, they have a great harmony, and I think that they'll make a wonderful family !
@mporvichova7 жыл бұрын
In Central Europe it's mostly furniture and clothes. Most of clothes I have got when growing up used to be someone elses. Also England is full of charity shops, but people over here seems to go more for brands.
@gotwa2295 жыл бұрын
Man, how stupid you are! Do you think Jorn's Dutch/Scandinavian values and ethic, never mind post-maternity plans have anything to do with his Korean wife? She is NEITHER Dutch NOR Scandinavian, never mind white NOR even western in mindset, outlook, attitude, experience, culture, upbringing, nor education. On the other hand, post-natal tradition in East Asia is culture bound and is actually crucial in dealing with Post-Partum Depression (PPD). Case in point: the PPD rate in Western countries is out of control, and westerners still haven't figured out how to handle it. Interestingly enough, It's not an issue in Korea and other East Asian countries, b/c women's culture and women's traditions addresses these issues and nips it in the bud for the benefit of the mother and baby, and ultimately, the family too. Jorn is just way, way too selfish, egotistical, arrogant, ignorant, stupid and devoid of comprehension to understand this. That is why his wife has to be adamant and insist upon what she believes is right. You cannot afford to go cheap when having a baby in Korea. Yes, hospital costs are already subsidized by an extremely affordable and well-organized single-payer National Insurance System in Korea. Also, typically 2/3 the cost of any elective procedures or optional post-maternity care costs can be covered by additional health insurance. Jorn's penny-pinching, skinflint, miserly attitude is unseemly and counterproductive.
@cheesecake72745 жыл бұрын
@@gotwa229 Calling him selfish and egotistical after giving up a succesful career to be with his family is kind of strange... I get where you're coming from, post-natal care is very important and it's important to be sensitive to both cultures in a relationship, but you're ignoring his cultural perspective completely. In the Netherlands, 1/3 of babies are even born at home. The father is always present during the birth. The first few weeks are seen as a bonding period between the baby and it's parents, where bonding with the father is almost as crucial as bonding with the mother. Not living with your baby for the first two weeks of it's life, missing those important first weeks, would be awful for him. Having a baby is all about the baby first, and about the mother second. And this brings issues such as PPD of course, but making it about the mother first makes for family dynamics where children don't feel emotionally connected to both parents equally, which would feel like a terrible thing to do to your child. That's what he meant by 'I'm just a visitor here'. I think both parents are unable to communicate why they want to do it in their specific way.
@jackiec11754 жыл бұрын
This is not a cultural issue, but a personal one. Unless you are the one physically having the baby, you don't get to choose what or how she gets to do things after giving birth. Period.

Jorn seems like a really great, kind and romantic guy. It seems like the Korean women who are married to Waygoogen (Foreign) men have different standards. If Hyeousuk had married a Korean man I'm pretty sure she would have asked the following questions: What is your job?, Do you work for big company? Do you have high income? Do you have a new car? Do you own an apartment? Would you favor me over your mother ? during the first date. Lastly could you imagine if a Korean man had bought anything less than the most expensive high chair from Lotte Mall for a pregnant Korean woman. All hell would have broken loose. Oh well, I hope they are happy.

i think thats the thing with korean women unrealistic dating style. its too women-centred. sometimes i pity the guys. But then korean have the drinking culture with their company and i dont understand how they can go out 5 times a week and go home at wee hours. Totally not family oriented. In my country ppl do drink but we dont have company drinking culture except once in a while for occassions. and most men are family oriented and make sure they spend time with their family after work.

Seems like the Netherlands attitude is very similar to Australias. Maybe thats why our countries are near the top of the list for human development index. Live frugally and within your means. I find brands so stupid and meaningless. The name doesnt make the product any better. I will buy a bag of good quality that looks good and will hold my stuff just fine for the best price possible. Its not like because I pay $10,000 for a bag it becomes indestructible and has a magic never ending size inside. You only pay that much for a shallow idea of "looking cool" for other people. I would rather save that money to gain life experiences with family by traveling and doing fun activities.

+Trananism lol, I do the same thing to save money. I calculate how many hours I have to work in order to pay for something. I'm sorry didn't mean to offend anyone...still love the episode though
@dkediaful8 жыл бұрын
+berlyglobe7 Actually Asian women have a very narrow hip bone structure compared to European women. Giving birth naturally is painful in itself but it is a little more difficult for Asian women plus these two have a pretty healthy baby so it will be even more difficult and painful for the wife. In fact the number of Asian women that opt for C-section is on the rise for similar reasons.

I like how the guy is practical. but i think his practicality can be slightly overboard. I mean its true i dont see a point in all the brands and meaningless baby products since at the end of the day its all about business. but then for baby bottles, i think its more wise to get a new one since baby have low immunity and picking up or getting 2nd hand may not be that favorable in terms of hygiene. And also in long term hen they have 2nd 3rd child they can pass down the bottle. At least its more hygienic that way since you are the one who have been cleaning the bottle and know how clean they are as compared to getting 2nd hand which we dont even know how clesn some people can be in terms of hygiene. And the cafe owner who gave him 3 days to finish the outlook of the cafe is crazy. I mean i know closing for business would means loss of money, but then its crazy. thats europeans and west can always come out with creative idea because they are given time to organize and sought ideas. Korea is all abt fast outcome. which doesnt work in all work industries and they got to unerstand that. And by rushing others you are actually imposing others space and freedom, if you dont have the patient or capability to wait you shouldnt ask for too much.
