This movie does such a fantastic job hiding the rough life this family is going through. A father raising his two kids while his wife is in the hospital. An older sibling almost parentified helping take care of her family. A young girl who is too young to fully grasp what is goingnon and why her mother isnt there. And a mother sick and worried about/missing her children.

One of my favourite Studio Ghibli films, rivaled only by "Spirited Away." Having always wanted a sister, I loved Satsuki and Mei's sisterly relationship, and how much they meant to each other.

My mom battled ulcerative collitis and was in and out of the hospital so much in my high school and college years, she passed away in 2021 and Totoro was always her favorite movie. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it since she died but man I forgot so much about the plot of the mother, and I understand now why she connected to it so much.

I love this movie, Studio Ghibli movies always have such simple yet important messages. They're truly underrated for the abstract cinematic masterpieces they are!

This one, Spirited Away and My Neighbors the Yamadas are my comfort movies.

This is the magic of Ghibli: bring likeable characters with a surface-level story, while exploring themes of death and purpose and freedom on several watchings.

I love it!!! It's like Monster INC but it explores more of its themes.

Is it just me or is every creator on KZbin trying to comfort Americans post election season?

Great film. You lot never spoke about WILD ROBOT. I thought it was something you'd talk about to pick apart and use its brilliance

I honestly prefer the original dub form fox. I'm not a fan of these new voices. That's what I grew up on. My Neighbor Totoro was the first anime I had ever seen and I was 6. We were in a video store and I saw the box and wanted to watch it. Kept renting it after that and later bought the Fox dub version. I know they used actual kids for the Disney dub. I just prefer the older one.

@@marilynstone6386 sure, if you’re really passionate about spreading anime to the world. this is just my personal opinion, the dub makes me cringe because hearing American accents in a very deeply Japanese movie is very strange and incongruous to watch for me.

Ooooh. Haha. I feel stupid. I just realized of course the illness is atombomb disease. That's so Miyazaki after all. I don't know why I didn't figure that out sooner.

I remember watching this back when I was in sixth grade and was impressed. I didn't realize that Studio Ghibil also made Spirited Away as I always thought it was made by Disney.

I LOVE My Neighbor Totoro and strongly dislike the new audio. The new voice actors didn't do justice to this movie or the original voice actors.

Do you guys know why your views are dropping like crazy! Like compared with years ago you had millions of views then. Now the numbers are hardly touching 60k. I'm just curious to know the reason. Any idea?
