Sorry you had to go trough all that. We, the patients, don't take medicine/treatment just because or just for fun. Sometimes they don't realize how important it is for us and thus, many people out there can't fathom the depths of the situation we are in. By the way, those flashing lights can be supper annoying, you endured them like a champ! I really hope this increase in the Vyepti soothes your migraines and makes that burden lighter. I know it is not that easy but you have the strenght and the resolve to go trough it. Always rooting for you Kelly!

I agree- I think some health professionals don't get just how vital these treatments are to us and our functionality. If it was them or their love one, I'm guessing they would behave differently. Our health system is no better in Australia and it is absolutely disgraceful to see this type of thing happen. So sorry to see this happen and such a blessing to see there are still genuinely nice people around. 🙏🙏

For future reference, ask doc office for prior auth number (I just had to do this and I took it to the hospital with me) and also call as well as message, because a call can get escalated vs waiting on someone to check the portal (I had to call an office about super delayed results/follow ups and she was appalled at how late they were and escalated my call within the office to SUPER URGENT). Thank you. This neurologist office would very rarely speak on the phone. It was very odd. They returned phone calls with messages in their portal. It ended up being faster/more responsive to msg in the portal bc of this. Also- I’m glad I had all the proof in writing of their mismanagement of the situation. It was clear it was not my or the hospital’s issue- it was the neurologist’s office issue. And when the situation escalated to a supervisor, the messages were proof of this.

Yes, the hospital staff were *so* sweet. The people from my neurologist office were horrible and refused to do their jobs and treated the hospital staff horribly. The hospital staff had compassion on me and did a job that was not theirs to do so that I could get the Vyepti. This is not the first time these hospital ladies have gone out of their way to help me. They are true gems. I'm so grateful for them.

Correct me if I’m wrong but prior authorization has to do with insurance coverage right? I mean obviously you needed this medication so couldn’t they have just given you the medication and then you could’ve sorted out the insurance mess with them later I don’t understand I’m so sorry that you had to deal with this

Yes, prior authorization is related to insurance. So insurance does not want to pay for certain treatments bc they are so expensive. In that situation, they require the doctor to prove that they have tried other treatments and that doing this more expensive treatment is necessary/the next step. And they require that the treatment be prior authorized by the insurance company. Because these treatments are so expensive, health care providers want to make sure they will get payment, so they require that I have proof that it will be paid for by insurance before I can receive the treatment. It also protects the patient, because if I were to get a treatment that insurance will not authorize/pay for, I could be charged thousands and thousands of dollars. Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

@@EmilysLifeOnWheels Excellent point that I had it before. It would make a lot of sense they wouldn’t need a new one. Im guessing the prior authorization is specific to the dose. Since this was a higher dose of Vyepti, it needed a new authorization. I don’t know why. But it does.

Hey kelly how are you after post surgeries do you any vertigo after those 8 months long or you get rid of meneires? I am also a patient of meneires and a student too but I also strong like you , preparing for medical exams in India . Dr.s told me that I will not be cure but can get relief from medicines from last 5 months I didn't feel any vertigo but sometimes for just 2-3 seconds I just got afraid😢 or a type of nervousness in me and main cause for me is tropical region in India change in atmospheric pressure get me ill with change in ear ringing sounds 😢. Kelly please share me about your surgery after that are you able to hear like before? And u didn't feel any vertigo. Dr. Hasn't recommend me any surgeries or anything else but they have notified that to take medicines on time and if they'll not work then they'll go for another treatment. Many times I got afraid all of this my age is just 20 years I also just a babe for you after seeing you I get inspiration from you ❤ please reply to my questions dear 🙏 A love from India.

No treatment gets rid of meniere's disease. Meniere's will always be there, but the treatments available can help to alleviate or eliminate vertigo. What your doctor suggested to you is very common as far as how treatments go. The surgery I had is the very last resort and should only be tried if nothing else has worked. IT is very invasive an has lasting effects on balance. I had Meniere's disease for 13 years before they performed this surgery. Usually doctors recommend betahistine or a diuretic in the beginning. They recommend a low sodium diet. IF those don't work they may give a steroid injection in the ear. IF that doesn't work they will give gentamicin in the ear. For most people, gentamicin works. I am so sorry that you are suffering with this while you are a student. Veritgo is very scary. I have adopted some techniques to help me cope with vertigo, so that I do not get anxious. I try to slow down my breathing to calm myself down. It is not easy, but it can be a helpful tool. You are not alone. You can get through this - one step at a time. Cheering you on in your exams!

Dr. Recommended me also diuretics and for vertigo they recommend betahistine too but now these times they don't recommend me for vertigo they only and only recommend for diuretics from last 6 months I don't feel any vertigo but sometimes time I feel difficulty in breathing when I got anxious about this disease I just cry in front of mom because of this on my birthday too it's seems like how I'll marry to another one and how he'll behave to me idk how he'll treat me in my hard times and you are like mom and sister also I always love too see u by seeing you I think about my future because the problems you get and the surgery you it may be also happen with me too . So I have to go ready with all these thing by making myself strong from innerside. It's invasive from last six months studied continuously but from last 2-3 days again I feel like I have some vertigo even after taking diuretics idk but may be vertigo episode again but I'll take sometime like few week or months . But but but like last 3 years I'll be strong as well as I'll fight

I know this has already happened, and hopefully never happens again- but here is my solution to the back and forth. 3 way call them. Get someone on the phone from one place, explain the situation, and call the other place together. It basically forces them to figure it out themselves while you babysit them 😂
