Hey nick im gonna be new into these kayaking and im just wondering what do you prefer wearing when u go kayak in the ocean? Dry suit or wetsuit?
@NickFish0074 жыл бұрын
I wear a farmer john wetsuit but i get cold during the winter. If you can afford a dry suit most guys around here use those. Wetsuits are perfectly fine but drysuits are safer. GL

Cool you bought a DEMO. I just bought an 09' that's only been used twice in 15 years due to owner having medical issues. My AI still looks new and still has the store stickers on it. I got it for $1200 cash with a lot of extras. Only extra I wish it had was the trampolines. I've had it 3 weeks and yet to put it on the water due to weather. Thanks for sharing your video!

Hey bro, that kayak is beautiful and very rare, and hard to find, especially the older models. I'd never Part with that vessel. I have my Shearwater 125, with my Bixpy J2 motor, on my toe control rudder, my PDL drive, and a bow mount 46 lb thrust trolling motor. That was my dream kayak, and I waited, for almost a year, for it to arrive, and I'll never upgrade. But that kayak I've seen setup with both outriggers, the 2.5 Suzuki outboard, and the sail. That is truly a dream kayak, and extremely fast in open water. But one outrigger, and one platform, us a fishing machine. Good luck bro, be safe. 🙏 🎣

Hi Nick. I just got myself an AI. Was wondering how stabil and how fast the kayak goes with just one AMA kit. Appreciate your input.

I have an older mirage adventure, is it the same kayak as the islander, mine has the hole for sail, daggerboard hole. and screws where the amas would screw down to the top of the hull, thanks

Btw, if u didnt sell the mako, fyi i got them to replace my pedal drive with a brand new one, cause after a year, it was toast. Guy that bought mine got 2 drives, one never had gotten wet.

Hey Nick Awesome video, I just got my Revo 16 but I need to start the upgrade, AKA & AMA setup. I would love to joint you for fishing 🎣 day and listen your feedback and lessons.
@bradreid60574 жыл бұрын
Nick, curious about what input you might have regarding how your Hobie AI would perform with both AMAs installed . . . but tucked in tight and not extended. It'd give you about 44" in width so a pretty wide platform for stability. Hmm? I see you often rig yours with one Ama extended, the other uninstalled and, no doubt, this works really well for you.
@NickFish0074 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I never thought about that before. It doesn't cut through the water the same way unfortunately and it's hard to keep them from swinging around. Thanks for the thoughts
@bradreid60574 жыл бұрын
@@NickFish007 I wondered about that, the swinging around. I suppose someone could use bungee chord to hold them fixed in place. Anyway, maybe more as a lake option, I guess. You seem to have it dialed in really well with your set up.

Nick how is surf launching/landing. I notice that when you launch you have the tramps rolled up. Do you unfurl them on open water? Also when you land, do you leave the tramps alone and just pedal in and hop out at the last second?
@NickFish0074 жыл бұрын
Hey eric, If it's a calm day I can launch / land with the tarps up. Otherwise I need to paddle. Unfurling them on the water isn't too hard
@eksblenny4 жыл бұрын
@@NickFish007 Hey Nick thanks for the response! How do you launch with the tarps up? Do you just get in deep enough to put in the mirage drive and start pedaling?

Hey nick, just watched your video, nice one!!! I’ve got the same kayak here in Brazil, but mine is yellow. I was wondering, what is the name of the “thing” that you mount your camera on? Is it a rod holder? The one in the “arm”

When your on the water, how easily can you fold the amas (sorry if spelt wrong) in and out? I love on some water that is narrow in patches so I might need to pull them in. Also can you sail it gently with only one “Ama” on one side? Thank you- appreciate your video a lot!
@NickFish0074 жыл бұрын
Folding in the arms is pretty easy. For sailing you need two amas, sail, and a daggerboard. Hope that helps
@fergusreeverealestate.74094 жыл бұрын
Nick Fish as long as I can easily fold the amas in so I can paddle along narrow/shallow passages, I would be fine. And then put them back out for the wider passage ways. How much room do you feel you need for this boat? I mean does it have to be a substantial body of water like a lake etc or could you use it on back waterways like we have in Florida in the Everglades etc? Appreciate your thoughts.

Important to have the back straps adjusted correctly. Tighten them up! It also helps to have the optional air pad underneath.
