Upgrading my Hobie Revolution 13 to the Ultimate Fishing and Sailing Hobie AI

You're going to love the AI. It really is the ultimate fishing kayak. I picked up an older (2013) adventure island beging of this year and I love it. I just flat out stopped using my 2018 outback with 180 drive so I ended up selling the outback after letting it collect dust for 7 months. I never knew I loved sailing. My fishing strategy has since changed after picking up the AI. Nowadays, I only carry one rod with a rapala magnum and go trolling for kings, mahi mahi and wahoo wherever the wind takes me. I paired mine with the torqueedo ultralight and I couldn't be any happier. Now with winds blowing 10-15 mph I still go fishing, those numbers were always stay at home numbers with the other kayaks. Congratulations on the upgrade.

Sweet looking set-up Moo. I used to sail my mates Tandem Island and it was a lot of fun. With the sail up, you will definitely be able to troll faster than any paddle or pedal kayak. Paddling wise though...I tried to paddle the kayak section of my mates tandem and it was seriously difficult. It was heavy and hard to control in the wind. Yours is single, so should be better. Looking at the stats though, it is way longer than the Revo 13, but also heavier and probably wider (they only seem to give the width with amas folded in, not hull alone). I believe Hobie stopped making their Revo 16, but that is the paddle/pedal yak from the Hobie stable for speed. Have fun in your new boat!

Thanks. Yeah, I could not find the info on the width of the hull on this one. I'll have to measure it. I'll be definitely testing out paddleability with and without the amas.

Congrats on your upgraded Kayak. For sure 4 hrs driving time did pay off. I am sure you will enjoy using it with the new features, i.e newly designed boat hull and sail, etc. You will have a blast on the water at no time. Happy boating/fishing!

Nice! I just got an AI earlier this year -- my first kayak. You'll love it. Because of the stability and the sail, you can stay out in windier and rougher conditions. I'll trade you sailing lessons for fishing lessons!

I’ll be very interested to see how you like it. It’s definitely at the opposite end of the kayak fishing spectrum compared to the Stealth. The Stealth is all about minimalism and the AI is about as far from that as it gets! But…. the ability to sail and cover greater distances, using the power of the wind, is definitely intriguing!🎣😃

I've been curious about how easy those are to paddle. I found some people in a forum saying they're slow when paddling. If you feel up to it, please post a video of paddling just the kayak itself (no pedal drive or amas or sail) because I'm curious how well it would do as standalone kayak, and also see how well it paddles with the amas, like if your pedal drive failed and you had no choice but to paddle (i feel like the amas or bars would just get in the way)

Hey it never does any good to complain and life it to short anyway, so don’t waste your time. That new sled is a beauty, should handle all out central coast waters. If I was yakkin in the ocean that’s the one I’d have. I have a nice comfortable diesel powered boat with a nice fishing deck all around. I do enjoy watching yours and your buddies adventures. Almost as much as I love getting out myself.

Revo 16 is an excellent kayak for the ocean. The fastest pedal drive because of the length, narrow width. Much lighter than AI haul. Send me a DM on IG or FB to see where I'm going and join me if you can.
