The only thing I can see this fixing is taking the slightest amount of resistance out of the system. Which is probably what they are shooting for. I am sure they are great products never the less.

Since you sound like you know your stuff I'm hoping I can run a question by you. I have a 07 Shelby GT500. When I push the RPM's beyond 4000 the entire electrical system power cycles. Dash lights, stereo... The engine continues to run but everything else cycles. It will even occur at a standstill rev. It doesn't appear to be a ground issue so I was wondering if it could be a regulator issue within my alternator. I read that ford had issues with that year due to the high RPM's. Do you think it could be an alternator issue, or am I perhaps barking up the wrong tree. I'd hate to drop $600 on a new alternator only to learn it wasn't the issue. BTW, I also read that many people had to upgrade the alternative wiring so perhaps that's the problem. I've had a really hard time finding someone skilled enough to share an opinion that I could really trust. Any advice you might be able to share would be helpful.

@@Onewheelordeal I beg your pardon. This video was alternator centered. My question was voltage regulator / alternator related. I belong to several GT500 forums. I mentioned in my comment that no one has had a valid or clear idea of what the issue could be. I've heard bad ground a dozen times and it's not.. I have narrowed it down to a possible alternator issue. No one has been able to explain a total power cycle in any of the ford GT500 forums. I believe it's 100% on topic to run the alternator question on an alternator post. I do appreciate your suggestion. If the owner of this page doesn't want people communicating perhaps he should turn off the feature.

Where I can I PREFER doing business with a small shop for exactly that reason. They _HAVE_ to care about customer satisfaction because of their main advertising method is "word-of-mouth". If you don't like them for some reason you won't refer your friends to them. Bigger companies and multi-nationals don't worry at all about the one or two shot customers.

DC Power are great people. We started using them for off road in 2013-14 when nothing else would survive. I dont think we ever had a failure running the 270 at 9000rpm

Between the stator (round copper) and the rotor (what the pulley connects to) they are the most difficult processes in our division. Stuff is stupid expensive to make! I just manufacture them.

The voltage sense wire is exactly what it says on the tin. It senses the voltage at whatever you connect it to without applying any additional load. Because there is no load on the sense wire, there is almost zero voltage drop across the sense wire, meaning you get an accurate voltage for the regulator to work from. If it were me, I'd be running the ECU and Ignition from a buss bar and connecting the sense wire to that.

Very cool video. The custom etching not only looks super cool but, if it should go 'missing', it will be easy to identify as yours. Heck, it may even dissuade the bad people in the first place. I'd just add one point - check the voltage between the alternator housing and the battery/chassis. Some vehicles use insulators to protect the alternator against vibration and sometimes the alternator ground wire isn't up to the job - I've seen them get so hot they've melted the insulation on them. I would normally use around an 0 gauge for the alternator ground and the alt' to battery cable, but I've been using lower current values - stepping up a size (or two) may be a good idea to minimise voltage drop with such high current values. Oh, there's still a lot of confusion about the 'power' the alternator takes from the engine - a higher current rated alternator doesn't take more 'power' from the engine than a lower rated one IF the current being used by the vehicle is the same - might even be more efficient and take less. Alternators only draw enough 'power' to maintain a set voltage against the electrical load, a larger one doesn't automatically take more because it's larger.

Rob sound like you have 1/3 of the charging system done. A lot of people talk about the "BIG 3" wire upgrade, but it's really needing to be the "BIG 4". First is the Battery to Alt wire at least 4g for something under 150 amp, I find 00g to be the best catch all sub 500amps. The Alt. needs to feeding the battery directly, so don't take it the start as you have it now, give the starter it's own cable straight from the battery/bus bar. Second is the chassis ground, again 4g is the starting gauge I like but normally do a 0g minimal sub 500amps. Third is the engine ground, I live be the rule, one ground per side of the block. I always use 0g for ground sub 500amp. The Fourth and most important is grounding the back of the Alt directly to the chassis or battery (I prefer chassis as it can eat up noise from the coils), I normally run 4g sub 150amp and 0g for sub 500amp. Alt's ground through the side of the case that the rectifier is on and through the mounting point (almost always the front of the case), this means the ground is just going through the small solid case bolts holding the two halves together. DC likes a lot of smaller wires working to gather for lest Voltage drop, as DC travels along the out side of the wire, so more strands in a give gauge of wire, the more surface area for the DC to travel along. Hope this helps solves some of the voltage drop off problems you have.
