My new and unusable dashcam! The Wolfbox G900

My review of the Wolfbox G900 dashcam mirror didn't go well. I thought this was going to solve my dashcam and reversing camera problems in one, but there's a major design flaw which stopped me before I even got started. It doesn't film the right side of the road ahead.

So I ended up buying and installing a G900 on my 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge here in the US. So, driver on left side. I kind of had the same issue with where the front camera pointed. But there is a leap of faith moment you have to get to. Abandon the idea of using the mirror in "manual" mode. I use my rear facing camera exclusively now instead of just the glass mirror. I bought the G900 to use the rear camera to eliminate blind spots and it has worked wonders. What I ended up doing with the front facing camera was adjust the mirror so it had the correct field of view I was after. And ignoring that the mirror adjustment would no longer work manually since I use the rear cam all the time now anyways.

Well I'm glad that worked out for you, but that's a shame that you had to abandon the factory mirror due to poor design. Especially since you're in left hand drive car! Sadly my land crusher is too old for a rear view camera 😂

I'm actually glad I saw this as I've been toying with the idea of getting one of these rear view mirror cameras for my panel van and it seemed to be exactly what I'm looking for. I do want it primarily for the rear view mirror function (as there are no side or rear windows on the van), but the issue you have highlighted here with the forward-facing aim (if you want to use it also as a dash cam), once you have the rear view mirror adjusted as you'd normally have it, never occurred to me. A pity and it's given me food for thought. Thank you for highlighting this.

I've seen a suggestion to fit a second mount on the windscreen, but it just seems like a complex way to fix a bad design 😔

Friend, there is a support from the same brand to replace your factory mirror and place this camera and make it look original.

it’s bc it’s made for american cars where our driver side is on the left

Yeah I thought the same and it's made with such a strange design. I don't understand why they didn't make the camera lens symmetrical so it works in multiple regions.

Did you keep it or choose something else? Was looking at one but I'm also a rhs driver. Ultimately I do want a new head unit and speakers as well as a decent reverse camera. This looks a bit of jack of all trades scenario.

I installed a very small compact dashcam instead, made by Arpha.

Strange that this is not mentioned in other reviews as this is really a show blocker. Did you already gather experience with another cam? Very nice video and very resilient charakter you seem to have there - I wouldnt be calm like this😂

I've had lots of dashcams but never one which attaches to the mirror like this. I was able to stay calm because I knew amazon would let me return it if it was rubbish! Hope the video was useful

There is an option to flip orientation around so it's upside down, but at least this way you have the camera on the right side.

Yeah I tried that but still ended up with the camera pointing off to one side 😔

@@landcruiserscotland If you physically install the unit upside down, the camera should be on the right side. Then in the software flip view upside down, It should solve the problem. The screen itself should be upside down when you read the text.But at least it'll be recording correctly.

Sadly there is no option to flip it in the software.

@@landcruiserscotland I just remembered that they do make kits for mounting brackets that you can install on the windshield for your device just like a regular replacement review mirror. I would call the customer service number for wolf box and ask them if they have one they can sell you. If you don't mind it it would be a little more to the right side of your regular review mirror. Or have it staying right on your dash at a tilt

Did you check the recording on a computer? Maybe the footage shows more. That screen is not big

Yeah on my laptop. I thought the same thing as you. It wasn't giving me a view of traffic approaching from the right.

Is this a design flaw where left hand drive versus right drive don't fit and work equally well?

Bro you can buy a bracket that holds it without the need to strap it to your oem reverse mirror. This is what I did and it’s perfectly centered without straps even! I have LC200

And for the footage, if you open it in the laptop, then you will see the full footage because the mirror is so small and the boundaries are small.

Does it just glue onto the windscreen in an extra position?

I did check the footage on laptop and it was the same - too far too the left
