Here is a video of me installing a new dashcam rear view mirror in my BMW 335i e92. I definitely like the fact that this dashcam has wifi and also that it replaced my rear view mirror.

First off sick BMW and sicker Wrangler. Just ordered one of these dashcams today for prime day before I came across your video. Looking at these exact two but decided to go with the 840H because of the WiFi. The only thing these cams would benefit from is HDR and the Sony starvis 2 sensor. The plates are basically unreadable especially with the LEDs shining right at them. Other than that the price is right and they look really slick. Great video 👍🏼

Hey thank! Glad you got a wolfbox, you'll be happy! Just like any electronic that's budget friendly, there's always gonna be ways to make them better. But I agree, a little better camera would be worth paying even more. But for what they are Im still absolutely impressed and happy. I think you'll feel the same 🙂🙂

Wow that’s a lot of screwing and unscrewing panels. I just bought this yesterday as a black Friday special. I too chose this one because it has Wi-Fi. I hope I can install this myself. I’ve never done anything electrical on my car. You do make it seem diy friendly

Hahaha it's definitely not as bad as it seems, which vehicle do you drive? And you can always route the cigarette lighter through the panels to avoid tapping into the wiring. But once its installed you will be so Happy!

​@@jku392adventureI have a 2010 cadillac srx. What is the difference between going through the cigarette lighter and hardwiring I've seen many videos talking about the battery being drained. Which would be my best option

@@milagrossmith4891 it all depends on how your cigarette plug is wired in hour car. If it's only on when the key is on it will work out perfect. If it's on at all times then it will drain your battery. You want accessory power, ( key on power)

It's also possible to use a trim tool to push the wires behind the trim panels without fully removing them. It's definitely not as pretty, but it can be way faster and easier.

@@Hawk7886 definitely true! If I wasn't making a video of it, I might have don't that for several areas. The trunk area I could have tucked it instead of removing everything, still good for people to see how it all comes apart 🤙

I haven't finished watching the video, but I was just wondering if you could recommend having one of these for a new driver like me, I just got my license and really is still terrible at checking my blind spots. So merging is very challenging for me. Is this something that will help me be more confident in checking my mirrors?

I have a question, you describe the G840 as having the Wi-Fi capability, while the G900 has the SD card, but the comparison pic shows just the opposite at the top, even though the model numbers are correct. Excellent video though! New follower!

@@dguy-xk4fc the g840h has wifi. I posted a picture from their website, and the picture of the g900 shows a wifi symbol. That was the only error in this video. The g840h has wifi. The g900 currently does not. Everything in the video is good

Hey! Good question! Unfortunately it does not have this capability. But It will put an the saved video in a different folder if the g sensor gets hit. So it's easier to find

Do you notice a difference in the rear video resolution when looking at the mirror/lcd? 1080p vs 2.5k?

You really don't notice a huge difference, I actually run the 840 in my jeep and bmw often.

Should i be too worried about the dash picking up license plates? Having a hard time reading them eventho the qaulity is so good. But aint the point for a dashcam be too be able too insure yourself when something happens.. and get a license when someone tries a hit n run? Whats your opinion and review on this? Any feedback fron anyone would be welcome ajd appreciated !

I would say most of the time if a car is close enough to hit you, you will be able to see the licence plate. Or at least make out part of it. Most of the time I test the license place when it's a few cars away and you can usually still make something out. Also it helps prove who is at fault for when people don't run, but they lie about what happened.

What would an installation like that normally cost someone if they don't do it themselves? I have a Toyota tundra I want that done on once I order the camera.

Is it a newer tundra? If it's a little older one, most off-road shops would probably charge around 150 to install it is my guess. But that's purely a guess. But it could be more, esp if it's a brand new tundra. I would recommend trying to install yourself using KZbin University 🤙🤙🙏🙏 it's not too bad of an install, esp if you use the cigarette lighter instead of tapping into the wiring harness

After having both the g900, and the g840, and also the i17 (dash cam only) I think I would choose the g900. Even last week I was offroading in my jeep and I knew I had at least several minutes of video I wanted to grab off the dash cam, so despite it being wifi, I still removed the memory card to easily move about 12 (1 minute) clips to my phone. So overall my favorite is the higher quality video from the g900 and wifi doesn't trump video quality when off-roading often 🤙 so I will be putting the g900 back in the jeep next week 😂 both are still great, if you never use the videos from the dash cam, then either is a great choice

It looks like licence plates are not readable very well. If the cars drive to fast, the low FPS will not capture it. Also during the night, the dynamic range of the camera seems to be so low, it has difficulty with reading licence plates. (Highlights overblown. Do you experience this too? Thank you.

I don't really have huge complaints, I feel like if something backed into me, they would be close enough for me to catch their licence place. Not if it was trying to catch a license plate from someone far away then I would just try to get the make and model of the car, but most of the time they will be very close when hitting your car. And at night, I think there's room for improvement, but still an upgrade over the dark mirror. Sometimes I use the mirror only to remind myself of how much better the dash cam is than just the mirror

The hardware cable kit is what you use to wire up the parking mode and power the dash cam. So you don't need to purchase anything else 🤙

You can play it back on the actual mirror, or I purchased a card reader to Plug into my phone like this one. amzn.to/3GCFeRI That way I can basically insert the card into my phone

@@jku392adventure What do you think is better? Having the Wi-Fi and the app or having the 900 with the better camera etc? I think theres a 930 with the app…thats 10” where the 900 is 12” no app. How sensitive is the parking feature? I have an F150 it takes a lot to move that thing! LOL

@@jaygolden4218 as far as app vs better camera I feel it's personal preference. When I'm off-roading and capture something on the trails and need to quickly remove it from the dashcam, the app makes it easier to be quick about it. Not having to stop to pull the SD card. But if I'm wanting to pull out a lot of videos from the card I would put the card in my computer and not even use the app. If your using it for capturing random accidents then the wifi app is better. If you find yourself using a lot of video from the cameras, get the g900 and put the card in the computer.

@@jaygolden4218 the I don't use the parking sensor too often because I keep it on the loop recording. But I think it would take lightly slamming a door to activate it. Or someone actually bumping into your truck

Gotcha. I’m torn. The 900 has the 12” mirror. My Tesla when it came out the sentry mode worked the same. You had to pull the sd card out to find the video. I do like the higher resolution so you can see license plates better. I know they have a sweet deal for the 900 with all the accessories. They said next year they’re coming out with the WiFi version.

Yeah I like the wifi, I use it often to grab 1 or 2 minute clips, but even the other day I pulled the SD card because I wanted to pull like 20 minutes off of it. Either way you can't go wrong 🤙🙏
