Lauderdale Inflatables in Fort Lauderdale, Florida gave me this small Pvc Cadet Zodiac Sib.I knew it would be a great time to also buy a hypalon sib and compare the differences.
The Dinghy series is meant to show what can be done with a small inflatable boat.
Lauderdale inflatables sells both of these boats and usually has them in stock. They can be reached at 954 900-3885

some shop vacuums allow you to connect the hose to the OUTLET port effectively turning your vacuum into a blower :)

yes, if you have 120VAC available when you inflate it, wonder if they have a 12 pump similar to a shop vac which pumps out air. Just a shop vac seems even quicker, if you know what I mean.

i had an inexpesive 12 foot pvc boat that i bought brand new for 1000 (newport vessels Catalina), and it served me awesome for year plus that i had it and it held up perfectly well, becuase I kept it covered and away from direct sun. no doubt hypalon is much better. more expensive, but its necessary if you're keeping the boat for years or outside. love the 18' RIB i have now, part hypalon, part fiberglass, seating for 10, lots of storage, and a yamaha in the back. its a chit show every time i go out. :-))) rock on, Alfred.

Excelente Alfred, watched the whole demo, personally like the bigger one for me and space wise also. I know so much more about these inflatables because of you videos. The hose adaptor should be made to twist and lock in then then twist to remove without air leaking during the adaptor removal process. Thanks again again Alfred and your assistant Alyssa for her help.

I agree with you but there is an interesting paradox. PVC has almost completely overtaken the whitewater rafting scene. Almost nobody makes Hypalon boats, at least I don't think they do. It is easier and cheaper to repair pvc "rafts," whether they have transoms or not. The repair kits are cheaper, patch material and glue. I had a hypalon and loved it, lasted 20 years before I bought it, without patching. I only bought the kit because it's foolish to go down a river without one, or a pump. Your biggest concern might be the number of chambers. You want the one with more chambers. They also tend to be higher quality overall, and more expensive. Then if you get a leak or tear you don't sink. 😀

@brownnoise357

Glued seams can be a bigger problem than welded in the heat. I think people create problems for themselves by not dropping the Tube pressure when it's hot ? zyiud have to have oretty high pressure imho, to start having a problem with welded seams. Plus the EWeght difference between PVC and Hypalon, can be a Real issue for a heck of a lot of people. I don't know - yet - how large the range of Zodiac Roll Up Dinghies is, but if they do a 10 ft one, my Yacht tender needs may just have been taken care of. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🙂🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇲

Anyone have any experience with pvc boats with heat welded seams? Supposedly that solved the problem with glue coming undone in hot climates.
@ctdvargas
@ctdvargas Жыл бұрын
I have used two PVC boats, both from saturn. They are just fine but you have to keep them out of the sun or direct heat. I keep mine inside my home uninflated. They last up to 5 years without complications but I sell them after 3 or 4 years at 50 percent my cost and just get a new one. The one I have now is ZK380, is 13ft long and fits 3 large people comfortably. It cost me 1200 after shipping. Same boat in Hypalon would be about 4000 bucks!! I take it out every weekend to haulover. They get the job done and are easy to fix.

Thanks for the insights. I've been trying to decide on a tender for my Next Boat, weight including the outboard for Davits, depending which Sailboat I get, may be too restrictive for a Hypalon one, and after looking around at forums, it seems great is a real issue for glued Seams, especially if Tube pressure isn't backed off when it's really hot, and for which, it appears dinghy Chaps can be an issue for both Fabrics ? I have seen posts from People who have had no issues with Zodiac welded PVC Dinghies in the Tropics for over 10 years use. I'm Guessing a bit, and can't test it yet, but a lot of people are saying coating the tubes with 303 Aerospace UV protection helps a lot (would factor 70 sun Blocker be even better, or would PVC react badly to it - I'll have to do a comparison test). I'm addition, I think a full top dinghy and Outboard cover in a UV protecting material, that's fast to put on and take off, imho, would greatly extend the service life onlynremoving it when using, and an occasional coating of 303 Aerospace on the tubes, can protect while using, plus the cover itself can be treated to make that last longer as well. There is a business in the USA making covers for Zodiac models, for about 300 dollars in the UV protection material, which is a Fraction of the price of getting Chaps custom made. When I get my Sailboat plus Zodiac, and have done some comparison testing, I'll try to remember to pop back with an update. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇲

@@Bakanelli Provisionally the Seago Hypalon Air Deck and Keel with a full UV Cover (the Seago Covers are Great value too). Planning to get a Seago Liferaft as well, Valise rather than Cannister, as cannister ines are prime targets for thieves. Seago Liferafts have been coming to of Comparitive Tests for literally Decades now. I really like their product range tbh, though they are a bit lacking in Product Testing Videos on KZbin, which I think loses them a lot of sales. It's one of the reasons why a tide me over Sailboat bought on this side of the Atlantic, makes sense, so I can fit it out with known good Gear, and cross to the Caribbean with stuff that is too expensive to ship to the USA, and all that stuff can then transfer over to the New Build from Island Packet. Lots of stuff is Cheaper in the USA, Liferafts and Such ? a hell of a lot more expensive, and frankly, not as good. I am a bit tempted to try the new much higher UV resistant PVC material Tenders, as with good UV Cover they might last well. Tender and Valise Liferaft can both be Secure in Cockpit lockers, and kept under lock and key when I'm off the boat. The 6hp 4 stroke Tohatsu / Mercury should be OK to keep safe as well, though I still have my old 4 hp 2 stroke Yamaha, plus 3x 3.3 hp Tohatsu, one of Which has a Mercury badge on it. All Winterised when put away! and none of which have ever had the Ethanol Fuel Disaster through them. Could get all of those into a foredeck locker after servicing them, and army them as cheap spare Outboards to tide people over For a Tender though, that 6hp 4 stroke is an incredible asset. At full throttle, over 10 miles to a litre of Fuel ? Wow ! Sorry I drifted a bit off topic there. That 10 ft Hypalon Seago should be a nice enough size for me, and not too bad for me to cope with. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️❤️

@@Bakanelli PVC with improved UV resistance does seem to have come a long way, but to be fair, some people using them in the Tropics, have been able to make them last really well, Much depends on having the discipline to put protective covers on them at every opportunity. Plus I have been wondering if coating them with High Factor Sun Blocker say factor 70 ? Regularly would be worth trying. A repair patch of the Same PVC to coat, just to check if there’s any chemical reaction would be worth doing imho.Frankly, if we can get over a 12 year Service Life out of a PVC Dinghy in the Tropics, I’d call that a major win. Heading to the Caribbean on my last Sailboat, I did Have a PVC one to test stuff like high Factor Sun Blocker on. The Seago Hypalon inflatables really are very good value tbh, and their full Covers are easily the cheapest I’ve seen. Chaps do tend to be Custom Made and tbh, are eye wateringly expensive when I looked at getting some in the USA. Zodiac are very well Made, Mercury ones appear to be very nice as well, and out of Season, you can apparently get excellently Dinghy plus outboard package deals. Your Outboard, fingers crossed, should be up there with Tohatsu level figures for fuel economy imho.,It was really good to see the guy doing the Tohatsu 6 hp testing the right way with it all done going flat out with wide open throttle, so we know that is the very worst fuel consumption you are going to get. That he got over 10 miles to a litre of fuel absolutely floored me tbh. Having been stuck offshore in a very strong Offshore wind and rough seas in the Mediterranean, I find the ability to have two 12 litre Fuel tanks in the Dinghy to rotate so you have a Tank with a full throttle range of over 120 miles, a terrific Safety feature tbh. I was lucky, a Speedboat heading in towed us to shore. Frankly that is why I will never get a battery powered outboard. To me, in a Marine Environment, they are nothing but a safety liability in conditions that have ceased to be Millpond Calm. Wide open throttle, and the stored capacity falls off a Clif.The Main thing to note with Petrol / Gasoline Outboards is if your only Fuel option is Fuel Blended with Ethanol, then you must use Ethanol Fuel Stabiliser in the Fuel at All times. Sadly we now have this Severely Damaging Crap being Sold here in Britain now. The Stabiliser adds a protective coating to the Fuel lines, Carburettor or injector pump and injectors, as well as internal engine parts.We really need a Campaign to get the Stuff Banned, plus it also wrecks the Fuel Economy. 15% Ethanol Content, and you lose roughly 30% of non Ethanol Fuel Consumption. First time I used it, was on a Motorcycle Tour down through France through Andorra and around Spain. We had to cut the Tour Short evause the damned stuff ate through our Fuel Budget. My Full Tank range to reserve light on, dropped from 185 Miles, to under 120 miles, at 750 miles plus a day, at economical touring speeds, that adds up fast. Best Wishes. Bob.🤔👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🌟🌟🌟🙂
