I would recommend putting olive oil near the top, it really helps keeping ants away from the top or making then slip off when they go near.
@EstheticAnts3 жыл бұрын
Olive oil is bad, ants can drown in it.
@amanofmanytalents69203 жыл бұрын
Very true, which is why you put a very thin layer.
@amanofmanytalents69203 жыл бұрын
Plus you have bigger ants, so it is less likely that they drown.

Great video just wanted to pick two mistakes up (sorry i cant help myself im Camponotus lover 😆) camponotus dont have a cast known as supermajors . Max are these three : minor, media and major . And also not all of Camponotus nest in wood . Lot of them nest in the ground and cant even dig in wood . Just a few species has jaws amd muscles made for this kind of nesting medium .

2:25 ordered that one. A test. I think salmon is the best color. White is dull and you don't see white things and yellow is a pee color that's too bright for my Yellow ants - Fetschenkoi and Turkestanus. Those were also nearly sold out so I only could get one for now. Oh question: I also started feeding insects cold. I think as long as the bugs are frozen they should hold basically forever (or until used). My bigheads eat them just fine but others seem more picky. Do you have any experience on that? My Foreli seem to love the hunt far more than boring dead/frozen stuff...

I just recently bought a small colony of Camponotus Discolor around 11 workers and i had a couple of questions i hope you might be able to answer for me! I noticed that Camponotus Discolor are most often found on the east coast of the United States and there are 0 reported cases of them where I live in the state of Wyoming will this different climate effect them a lot? Or will it not matter much because they will be in captivity? And do you have a recomended starter formicarium for these ants? Thanks!
@EstheticAnts3 жыл бұрын
The ones I have where actually Camponotus Decipiens. Those might fly more in your area. I don't know much about climates, just keep them between 25 and 30c (No idea what that is in Fahrenheit) and you should be fine. I moved them today into a tarheel minihearth with 19 workers and they seem to be doing great! This Sunday a new update about them.

In Europe it isn't a problem to keep exotics.
